About A contemporary art space founded by artists Richard Hugo, Natali Tubenchlak, Robson, Zé Carlos Garcia and producer Marcelo Velloso in January of 2008, Barracão Maravilha has its own particular way of presenting and circulating art. Located in the 18th century Gomes Freire Avenue, in a building built in the turn of the 20th century, Barracão Maravilha is situated in the heart of the city, and as an independent space has established itself as a prominent place for contemporary art production over the past five years. Barracão Maravilha is named after the founding directors’ involvement in the design and build of Carnival floats for the principal samba schools in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. In 2011 the studio expanded over the entire building and began to invite other artists to join the space. These are professionals specialized in visual arts production. The organization has an extensive portfolio of large cultural projects management for public and private clients such as the Museum of Modern Art in Rio, the World Wildlife Fund and Fundação Palmares.
