Who is this course for?

This level 3 qualification prepares students for study at university. It is designed for:

Students who have had a break in their education and who have an ambition to study an engineering discipline at university. This course will appeal particularly to those who do not yet have the formal qualifications to gain direct entry onto degree level study.

n Students seeking progression to university or progression opportunities in employment n Students with a current or previous role or interest in business and/or accounting

What qualifications or experience do I need?

n Students who, because of social, educational or individual circumstances, have not been able to pursue higher education

Applicants with an IELTS score of 5.5 or above will also be considered.

You will need a minimum of grade C (4/5) in GCSE maths and English.

n Students seeking a change of direction because of unemployment or lack of career opportunities in their previous field and who have a demonstrable interest in entering a business related profession

What will I study?

What qualifications or experience do I need?

n Computer-aided design (CAD)

Successful candidates will need to have a grade C (4/5) or above in GCSE English and maths. They will also have to pass a numeracy and literacy assessment which is set at GCSE (Level 2) standard.

n Mechatronics

What will I study?

n Electronic circuits

You will study a number of business and accounting related units. In particular you will learn about business organisations and structures, business planning, how to record business transactions, deal with financial & management accounting and decision making. You will also examine the financial statements of different types of businesses - clubs and societies, partnerships and limited companies. By the end of the course you will be familiar with the more practical aspects of day-to-day running and management of a business and reporting to management.

How will I be assessed? You will be assessed through course work and exams.

Students will study a wide range of modules including: n Mathematics for engineering

n Engineering materials n Signal processing principles

How will I be assessed? You will be assessed through a combination of practical tasks completed in laboratories, reports, presentations and coursework assignments. This qualification will appeal to students who prefer portfolio based assessment covering a variety of engineering investigations.

What can the course lead to? This programme will enable you to progress onto an engineering degree or a Higher National Diploma in any engineering discipline.

What can the course lead to? A post graduate or masters degree from a recognised university.
