Who is the course for? This is a level 4 course intended to help candidates learn, develop and practise the knowledge and skills involved in designing and scoping of electrical installations in domestic, commercial and industrial buildings. Hence, the course is targeted at electrical engineers, building services engineers and experienced installation electricians whose roles include design of electrical systems or those who wish to take up electrical systems/installations design roles.

What will I study? This is an intensive classroom-based theory course that gives in-depth treatment of the following aspects of electrical design: n Statutory and non-statutory requirements relating to electrical installation design, construction management and verification n BS 7671 requirements relating to electrical installation design n The electrical installation design, construction and commissioning process

n Design and verification procedures for single and poly phase electrical installations

How will I be assessed? Unit 401

n Fundamental principles for the design and installation of associated protective systems relating to electrical installations

Design, construction management and initial verification of electrical installations (Assignment)

n Factors that affect choice of alternative energy sources and environmental technologies used within electrical installation design

Design, construction management and initial verification of electrical installations (written)

What qualifications or experience do I need to get on the course? Candidates must have already obtained: 2382-15 Level 3 Award in the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS 7671: 2008 (2015) (17th Edition)

Leaving destinations Candidates holding this qualification can progress to: n Level 4 Higher Professional Diploma in Building Services Engineering (C&G 4467-04)

and

n ILM Management and Leadership qualifications

2394-01 Level 3 Award in the Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical Installations

n Our Foundation Degree in Construction Management

and/or 2395-01 Level 3 Award in the Periodic Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations

Some universities will accept candidates who hold this qualification together with 2365 level 3 on their Electrical Engineering programmes.
