Who is this course for? The qualification offers an engaging programme for higher education and adult learners who are clear about the area of employment that they wish to enter or wish to progress within existing employment. It also provides a suitable qualification for those wishing to change career or move into employment in counselling following a career break. Access to suitable counselling work situations is compulsory for successful completion of this qualification.
What will I study? You will need to come to college one day a week and attend an annual residential weekend which is compulsory. These weekends are an opportunity to work more deeply with self and the group in a beautiful country setting. The 8 unit Level 5 BTEC Professional Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling provides a specialist work related programme of study that covers the key knowledge, understanding and practical skills required in counselling. You will be required to have weekly personal therapy, regular supervision and a placement.

What qualifications or experience do I need? Ideally learners should be aged 21 and over. You will need to have completed a Level 3 or Level 4 certificate in counselling, demonstrate evidence of ethical awareness and a willingness to find a placement. The importance of ethical practice is emphasised throughout the qualification. There is a requirement of 100 hours of client work associated with this qualification, where you need to find a counselling placement.
Please ensure you bring a handwritten personal statement of approx. 500 words about why you want to study counselling at this particular point in your life to your interview.
How will I be assessed? You will be assessed through written assignments, reflective journals, class/individual presentations, direct observations of skills work, group work, case studies, knowledge of counselling research, supervision reports, video recording with a transcript and selfevaluation.
What qualifications could I achieve? Level 5 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.
Leaving destinations When you have completed your studies you can register with the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and operate as a counselling professional. â€ƒ
