* ABOUT MYSELF .. Following the success of my high school diploma, I took the choice to proceed to interior architecture. At this moment, this way, represent to myself a passionate exploration connected to Arts and Design, where the imagination meets reality. With different experiments, I am convinced of the value and importance to realize projects which mixt interior spaces, architectural design and exterior landscape. It allows me to generate a general and complete thinking. This approach leads me to continue my studies in Architecture, to achieve more precisely the objective which I search. This personal architecture approach seems to be the achievement of a poetic space, which depict the interior space dimension, the landscape and the interface between the both. Previous years spent in architecture companies allowed me to occupy an entire place within the different teams. The trust and the agreement shared with the collaborators allowed me to accomplish an in-depth work to quickly obtain the necessary skills to be more independent in my work. Achieved experiments and works permitted me to build my junior architect personality, which could be a sensitive architecture that puts at the center of the process : Users, associated to the program thinking, the work about materials and the shape. Thoughtful, moderate and patient by nature I wish to continue my experience to understand clearly the details and the relative issues to practice this profession, while continuing to build my personal architectural identity.

Professional Skills Projects conducted in an urban, suburban and mountain context (sketches, advanced plans...) Competition, Nordic Hostel Grand Bornand, France M’architecte agency

Professional project

/ Cultural heritage, traditional building The Nordic Hostel located in Haute-Savoie Alps is a refurbishment and an extension project. The two existing buildings represent a typical and traditional mountain architecture. Different aspects of this style are visible by the simplicity of the building, its building methods, its materials and its two-sloped roof. The program of this competition is to build and integrate a third building. The three buildings are unified to its first level by a glass corridor which permit to make a junction on the group of buildings. The new one construction ensures the continuity with the other two traditional cabins. Transparent materials are used on the new construction to offer a more modern appearance. Devoted to be a tourism hotel, mainly during winter season, it offers other functions like a restaurant, a bar, a wellness area and a room conference.

Offices, Medicine & Health care at work Scionzier, France Surface : 269,25 m²

M’architecte agency Professional project

/ To think the workplace This project is a private commission asked by the director of the « health care at work. » The project site has already a building built with one ground floor and which has medical rooms and offices. The existing building being too small to generate new spaces, so the objective was to design a new extension. The site plot was very small, so the new building extension takes place at the back of the site on three-storey. Moreover, we must respect the limits of the plot plan and in this way the building is cut on the East side elevation. The building is designed on the basis on the simple shape with a flat roof on the last floor.

The program of the building includes some offices (CEO, accountants, HR manager and assistant) a small kitchen, a board of meetings room and a conference room. The building is built with a wood framework. The bracing of the building is ensured by crossing beams in each floor and by a concrete pylon for the lift. On the outside of the structure is attached carrier aluminium tubes to receive a lacquered metal reflector slats and oriented photovoltaic panels. These oriented slats are screen sun to reduce the daylight. The exterior of the envelope building is finished by exterior wood panels « FUNDERMAX ». The passageway connecting the new extension and the existing building is designed with glass panels. Its localisation on the site and its height makes the building visible since the highway.

Professional project

/ Minimal housing and Cabin Situated at the heart of the valley in Scionzier, Haute-Savoie area, this project is a private order to build a tiny residence. Here, the aim of this project was to reinterpret some classic architecture codes of traditional cabins and offered modern choices to mark the rupture with authentic architecture. This division is visible by the roof treatment which is turning against the walls of first level. This shell in zinc extends the structure in cantilever to unify the house summit with one single skin. The rest of the house is designed with a wood framework and finished by larch panels.

Porto, «Ville aux mille îles» Rua Sao Victor, Porto, Portugal

ENSAG Architecture’s study final project C. Renaud _ The ilhas situation , 2001

Inhabited ilhas areas Neglected ilhas areas Others Main ilhas concentration during XIX°

/ « While Lisbon is getting beautiful, Coimbra is studying, Braga is praying and Porto is working » Positioned as the second agglomeration of the Portugal behind Lisbon, the first, Porto has largely developed around a small paternalistic manufacturing industry (foundry, metallurgy, weaving house) and conserved this laborious and simple city appearance.

However, an elder population, the lack of comfort and the persistent insalubrity keep these houses outside of the urban life. Revitalize and propose a refurbishment about these tiny houses can offer the implementation of a modern way of life, to attract new families and to give back more decent housing for already settled inhabitants.

The industrialization is very present during the XIX° century and generates a popular typical housing very unique and only attached to this city : the « Ilhas », real intangible and tangible cultural heritage. _ Ilhas types

13

/ Spontaneous manufacture of workers’ housing The ilhas were built by the middle-class owners which had industries to accommodate their workers. Built very rudimentary with cheap local materials, the development of this houses has become very rapidly a good investment for the owners. The ilhas are small housing units of 20m² which expand in perpendicular strips to the street and readjust the typology of the single-storey house. This form is adapted to the morphology of the city and to the Porto’s plot plan can be as long as 100 meters depth.

_ Microcosm and private life

_ Segregation : the source of resistance

XS - 8 housing S - 19 housing M - 18 housing L - 4 housing Added public Facilities

/ Housing grain size : rearrange the density The project takes place in an urban plot plan with regular strips. This plot plan gives the shapes of the housing units and permits to propose several types of houses able to accommodate different family structure. Not having real actors for this project, we consider a simulation with four family structure types and propose four houses types to match with the different lifestyles : - XS housing, stepping-stone accommodation for students and young workers - S housing, for single people or in couple - M / L housing, for families with children

_ Addition of floors

16

/ Smallness as a logical implementation : Constructive diagram

_ Intermediate floor

This operation takes place in a smallness and exiguous area, so the special framework devoted to the second floor are designed in a workshop and assembled straight on the building site. Manufacturing in workshop enables to work efficiently with more precision in order to have quality housing. In first time, the structure is handled, then aided by a mechanized basket. This system includes all elements required to ensure the correct functioning, including : fluid networks, pipes, insulation...

/ Specifics connections between the existing building and the second floor

/ Accumulation of second floors oriented The systematic South-East orientation of the second-floor openings generates views and not overlooked. From the inside housing, the news extensions bring daylight. The juxtaposition of the oriented roofs generates an oscillating movement. At the inside of the path, the vertical strips of glass accompany the passage of inhabitants.

Draveur’s cabin Cabin project, Jacques Cartier Park, Québec ENSAG Bachelor’s degree Surface : 80m²

/ Sequence 1 : Poetic images - Flashback It’s the nuance that matters and the ability to analyze and describe each space to « burst the secret » of memory. Analyze and understand the materiality of each space : everything that contributes to generate sensations.

/ Sequence 2 : Moving landscape « One foot in front of the other, I confront an immense enveloping landscape, a living universe made up of a green thick layer rippling through space. Walking along this path and surrounded by this dark and dense forest, I lose my point of reference nuanced only by a dancing light through the trees. It’s none other than a world apart, a fragile and unstable balance in which I advance. » « Suddenly, the concealment and the strict enveloping of this green mass thick gives way to the exposure, opening onto a great landscape. Frozen in the middle of this bridge I can feel a tension and a dilatation between the two edges of the river like caught in a vise, pressing me in its embrace. The scenery burst into flames, the shadow gives way to the light, to a heavy summer with static clouds scattered in the sky. » « At this moment, all everything comes alive, this distortion of reality in which I abandon myself seems to be an organism that breathes and lives with the wind, the light and the river carrying me more and more in its flow. »

21

/ Sequence 3 : Materials with memory - Duality

/ Spatial position Duality and segmentation in two parts : the inside part is favourable to meditation, concealment, a withdrawn space where we are protected; the outside part bursts towards the large landscape with a big opening. Based on these two parts, the Draveur’s cabin runs from the forest border, on the riverbanks and until into the river thanks to a granitic stone dam. The architectural position in two pieces confers a physical tension and permit to the volumes to observe and answer themselves. The envelope material is constituted by floated wood permitting to give a natural appearance to the cabin inspired by Land art. It’s technically an ephemeral architecture which can disappear rapidly without a trace. The static structure comes alive when the natural environment becomes dynamic, in order to the architecture transcending itself into a living and unique organism.

« Music has charms to sooth a savage breast » Commercial project, Rue Léon Sestier, Grenoble ENSAG Bachelor’s degree

C. Renaud - L.Duval Surface : 3630m²

/ Soundbox « Music has charms to sooth a savage breast », is an architectural building in contact with music. Inside, mixed functions are proposed : auditorium, media library, nap bar, MixLab offices, a theater company « les fées rosses » and a radio station. The Bouchayer-viallet neighborhood, in full requalification, proposes cultural and social uses already, so, the new musical building assures continuity to generate a dynamic and artistic neighborhood.

The relation sound/Silence - full/ empty of the project is the major element. The actual old building situated in the site is demolished to give way to a large free space to generate a significant view and a new neighborhood entrance. This free place enables a soft transition through the neighborhood center. The particularity of this project is that it’s buried to generate a soundbox concept. At the neighborhood level, the project wants to complete historical, economic and cultural identity of the district. The project location and its different uses proposed register as the epicentre of the neighborhood and aim to diffuse cultural and artistic knowledge, economic services and have a new vision of the « post industrial wasteland ». On a bigger scale, allow the release and the diversifications about lifestyles of the Berriat people.

_ Density and urban morphology

At the North, some concentration of flows generates communication nodes. The project location centralises these flows (pedestrians, publics) and making them converge towards the central public square. The public square, which is a linear programmatic strip attracts the flows into it, so the functions are mixed inside the district.

/ Interior space zoning The building, which integrates the architecture program is buried under the public square in order to mix inside and outside functions. The concrete slab of the last level, where is located the outdoor square, is holed by patios to bring the natural daylight. Moreover, these patios are tree-filled allowing only the top of the tree canopy to appear from the outdoor square. The building users can either walk around on the converted public square, or to slip under the slab and enjoy of musical’s spaces. This effect cans allow several spaces appropriation during temporality.

Urban pieces Urban rehabilitation, Avenue des états généraux, Echirolles Sud ENSAG Master’s degree 1 year _ Interaction - Reconnection

Heart of district - Social and cultural Heart of district - Economic

/ Urban acupuncture Echirolles’ urban redevelopment project is ambitious, fully integrated in the South polarity and integrates a strategic vision for the town and the South of Grenoble area. The most important goals pointed are the development of the social diversity by diversified housing programs, reconfigure commercial services at the heart of the district and maintain Echirolles’ identity. For that, the operation is intended to implement facilities, insulate the buildings envelopes and create a new solid commercial base with public facilities.

31

_ Spreading spaces

An accomodation and cultural center A social center An educative center

In this context, the social center must also be replaced within the neighborhood. To allow a better flows management and a partial opening up of the area, a public square in tension with the new commercial base ensures a connection and a cross-sector approach of the district. To create this new identity, the project is articulated around the social center’s splitting program in 3 main issues/functions. The desire is to impulse a new breath in the district through providing 3 architectural positions, which answer of the urban specifics. It’s also a means to enable a connection and an interaction between political people and the locals by every day. To reconfigure this new urban landscape, the project relies on 3 urban pieces : a social center, an educative center and a combined architecture including temporary accommodations and coworking offices.

/ Landscaping master plan The project wishes to promote landscape, environmental and residential qualities. Located in abandoned and interstitial spaces, the 3 urban pieces aim to generate an interface and interrelation by centralizing and diffusing the different flows across the district.

32

_ Floor plan, Level 4 - Accomodation center

_ Floor Plan, level 5 - Coworking offices, cultural center

/ Architecture staging These three pieces which, once they are all together, reassemble a unity and a centrality within the district. The major focus is to develop and promote social and cultural actions. The fragmentation of this unity in 3 pieces allows a better readability of architectural functions and a major impact on the various activities proposed around social assistance and culture for everyone.

_ Ground floor - Social center

33

/ Roofing elevated From the angle of the roof of the building, the volume is generated by the sliding of two slabs relative to each other, the whole being held by the roof. Thus, are created large terraces and loggias to appreciate the urban landscape.

/ Landscape staging The project is above all a staging based on three architectural positions with three different site shots : carve the hill, accompany the opening of a large apartment block and colonize the roof of a large apartment block.

A balcony above Tage Cais do Ginjal, Almada, Portugal ENSAG Master’s degree 2 year

C.Renaud

/ Conversation Pieces The aim of the project is to succeed to generate a conversation between two architectural pieces. On one side, a historical and patrimonial group of buildings, and one other side, a new modern architecture, which dialogue between them. Nested on a concrete wall 30 meters high named « Cubàl », stands up an old cod liver oil factory. Turned to face at the bay of Lisbon, the site overhangs the Tage river supplied by the constant movement of vessels carrying freight and goods. A part of the docks’ deconstruction on the bottom of the site allows the Tage to introduce itself, real resource during centuries, close to the Cubàl creating a walk along the aquatic area.

35

The addition of transparent volumes on the old buildings reveals the distinct cuts of the factory buildings preserved. At night, the interior volumes of the buildings are visible and show dancing shadows and make echoes since Lisbon. The main space is an underwater concert hall based in an old building which is added a coffee bar, a restaurant and hotel rooms.

1 INTERIOR DESIGN

Desert Nomad House Residential project, United States Interior Design study Surface : 87m²

Inspirations and origins of « Desert Nomad House » come from Brazil. They symbolize legends, customs and beliefs of the Brazilian interbreeding, gratifying the craftsman’s work about raw materials and exotic wood. The natural conception and the using of the raw materials, worked from the human mind and hand, is a relatively new concept. Using natural materials permit to conserve an authentic and simple aspect for the furniture and the objects increasingly sought by designers, and reveals aesthetics qualities.

Brazil is a country where the art of the recuperation has found its culture close to some artists such as Campana brothers. The DIZ armchair designed by Sergio Rodrigues and used in the project illustrates the authentic Brazilian craft. The using of massive wood, driftwood, fossilized wood, Ductal concrete, felt, clay, cardboard and paper are all materials that contribute to imagine an exotic space as a « Brazilian oasis».

39

/ Large, Medium, Small Ethnic design symbolizes in search of the exotic through the promotion of local craft. The territorial and national inspirations join the other ethnic origins and those of the exotic influences which come from the far East like Japan but also South America. These inspirations are the successful result of multicultural interbreeding, the cultural exchanges principles, the process of integration of immigrant cultures and the reformulation of foreign cultures.

Coffee Bookstore Commercial project, Lyon, La Confluence Interior Design study Surface : 106m²

Based in the manufacture des Arts in Lyon « La Confluence », the project takes place in a dynamic neighborhood undergoing a process of restructuring. The building’s function wants create a dynamic and attractive space to produce interaction and exchange around a coffee-bookstore concept.

/ Experiments « Coffee Bookstore » draws its character through two major phases : In first part, Design and Art jobs to redesign traditional knowledge with unique elements defined as a prototype. These workshops of Art can be considered as experimental laboratories devoted to the contemporary creativity. In second part, experimental design, the most avant-garde part of design, which seek to exceed known limits and provokes by exploitation of innovative materials, changing some technologies used in other activities.

41

In one direction, testing phase, describes a logical mind, methodical and rigours and in one other direction, a rupture aspect determined by an unreasonable seek including excessive risk-taking to try an experiment. This way of experiment architecture corresponds with a way to build space : including further study in shapes, textures, materials and the way to combine them. So, we can generate a physical space, where the user and the architecture mix, answer, attract each other.

42

Survival platform Receptacle project, Ocean

Interior Design study Surface : 72m²

/ An outdoor area and located in the middle of Ocean ? / Uses and functions A place to survive, of withdrawal, of contemplation, a shelter and a stock place. This space is used for unexpected uses such as survive, relax, revitalize yourself and observe ... The shell offers different configurations with empty and full volumes for example shelters, cavities or pits. / Volume and physical features This project is a micro architecture, which reinterprets container ship architecture. After considering the issue of Human posture, his way to live in the volumes, the connection between the spaces became very clear and revealed hollows, cavities and other particular shapes. These shapes generate limits and borders of this survival platform project. Finally, informal spaces became logical creating a certain tension and resonance between shapes themselves. This aspect gives to the project a single interiority. The concrete offers technical features which meet the construction requirements and appears as a strong and robust material.

Manoir de la Roseraie**** - Hotel Commercial project, Route de Valréas, Grignan Interior Design study Surface : 590m²

N

/ Empathic dimension « Manoir de la roseraie » Hotel had 25 small bedrooms, a restaurant dated in a XIX° century building overlooking the park of 5 acres. The program asked the similar ability for reception with new concept and new design bedrooms, more comfortable and corresponding to the new lifestyle of customers and tourists. In a era of globalization and driven by all excessive medias, we are obliged to observe that the interaction between Men has strongly reduced and slowed. The project wants to establish a free personal development thanks to a social network well-woven during the trip at the hotel to refocus on the human links and the personal well-being. Respect, clarity, simplicity, functionality are been the main words to design the project. Inside, the bedrooms refurbished on two levels, offer a better life quality for the customers. The access and the circulations were worked by a polychromic game floor in corridor spaces. Moreover, the project focuses on ergonomic science, to generate a link between Men and its real environment, drawing their knowledge in several sciences such as psychology, medicine, sociology, colors semiology... Try to eat better, to sleep better, to live better...
