Blues’ News

The Brad Robinson Memorial Stand official opening We are proud to announce that at 2:45pm on Saturday, before the FA Cup match with Bowers and Pitsea, The Brad Robinson Memorial Stand will be officially opened by Brad's parents Dorothy (Dot) and Ken who have made a generously large donation to the club in memory of their son. Please gather by 2:45pm in the seated stand to honour the opening of this lasting memory to a supporter who did so much for the club as a dedicated supporter and committee member for 30 years. We are all diminished by the loss of such fine people as Brad who died tragically aged just 39 after a painful and brave battle against cancer. Brad worked tirelessly for the club, made frequent and significant financial contributions and missed very few matches. For many years Brad ran a fund raising club shop and organized the purchase and sale of replica playing strips, scarves, hats and other memorabilia. He was also editor of our programmes for a while and ensured the appearance of the club flag and banners at games. Some years ago, when we were in a higher division, it was Brad's additional financial contributions which enabled us to avoid relegation in several seasons. Throughout all his activity for the club Brad was always modest and self-effacing. Club Chairman Rob O'Brien said at the time of Brad's death: "Brad was the supportive backbone of Barking FC. He did all he could to drive the club forward and spent many hours doing those jobs that most wouldn't even consider." When people die it is customary to say good things about them but I (DP) cannot think of anything bad that could be said of Brad. We trust that the dedication of this grandstand in his honour will ensure that he will always be remembered when those of us who were privileged to know him will ourselves be gone. 3

Our Visitors LONDON BARI A BRIEF RECENT HISTORY Imran Merchant founder and creator of Bari FC gaves us a run-down of the clubs past before his pre-season move to Redbridge FC. Bari are now taking part in their 2nd season in senior football. Bari FC were formed in 1995, playing in the South Essex football league for 3 years but due to some unforeseen circumstances we decided to have a break but 2 years on we had a better and stronger establishment. Bari FC had two teams in 1997 playing in the Asian league, one in division one and another in division two, both teams train together and coached, it was vital that both teams did well. Bari FC looking towards the future then formed a kids training session, on Thursdays, the kids age groups were from 7-11 years old and was completely free of charge, trained by a West Ham United coach, we were trying to find young talent for scouts across the UK. I am privileged to say that I am associated with Bari FC and so should everyone within the club, remember we are a strong unit building for the future and I hope all the players are part of that during good and bad times. The guys who were involved in the set-up in 1997 were: Imran Patel (Barry, manager of Bari B), Siraz Khankhara(assistant manager of Bari A and players rep), Shaddad Gahakwa(youth development), Arif Merchant(Bari A captain) and Yasin Patel(Bari B captain). Bari played in the South Essex Football League until 1998. After leaving, the club joined Division One of the Asian League. In 2011–12 we won the Essex Corinthian Sunday Football League. We then successfully applied to join the Essex Senior League. I like to emphasise that Bari FC are a family club, the mentality of all players is to create a bond with each other no matter how good or bad you are, we are all equal. 13

Haven’t We Met Before? A look back at London Bari matches of the past by Terry Gilbert – Website Editor & Archivist November 3rd 2012 – Essex Senior League Barking 1 (O’Brien) London Bari 0 Barking: Chris Clark, Nathan Philip, Dan Mackin, Craig Greenwood, Ben Turner, Scott Walsh, Kieran Walsh, Ricky Mackin, Dumebi GB-Dumaka, Ben O’Brien, Ife Agunbayo – Subs: Jonathan Mogege, George Tubey, Lemar Reynolds April 20th 2013 – Essex Senior League London Bari 1 Barking 1 (Butler) Barking: Christian Baffour, Nathan Philip, Luke Foster, Jay Abberley, Ben Turner, Ben O’Brien, James Butler, Scott Walsh, Dumebi GB-Dumaka, Daniel Okah, Ife Agunbayo – Subs: Jonathan Mogege, Tyrone Scarlett, James Barlow

Opening Day Results The long awaited Essex Senior League kicked off on Saturday and gave ourselves and Stansted a free Saturday because of other commitments. New comers to the league Haringey Borough cruised past Eton Manor with a 2-0 home win, whereas Ilford drew their game 2-2 at Sawbridgeworth. FC Romania found things a little more difficult and went down 1-3 at home to Hullbridge Sports. Early table topers on goal difference are Sporting Bengal United and Takeley who cruised past Southend Manor and London APSA 3-0 respectively. Bengal were away and Takeley were at home. Name changers Tower Hamlets(formally Bethnal Green) lost 2-0 at Great Wakering whereas Greenhouse London(Haringey & Waltham Development) went down to Basildon United by the same score. Last season basement clubs Bowers & Pitsea and Clapton slugged out a 0-0 draw. 14

Today’s opponents didn’t get off to the best of starts and lost 1-0 at home to Enfield 1893.

15

The Opposition Derek Pedder – Press Officer & Archivist takes a personal look at today’s opponents London Bari.

London Bari FC was founded in 1995, playing in the South Essex League, of which we were members in the late 19th and early 20th century. This is their 2nd season in senior football and they also have 2 teams in the Asian League. Their own base is at Wanstead Flats and they play their home senior games at The Old Spotted Dog ground, the historic home of Clapton FC.

There have been some changes in the club recently, including the departure of their chairman to Redbridge FC, where one of the joint managers is our own ex manager Dave Ross. On Saturday Bari played and lost to Enfield 1893 by 1 goal to nil..

Trend and form guide We are unbeaten in our last 2 meetings winning 1-0 at home last season and drawing 1-1 at the old spotted dog.

This is our 1st league game of the season but we enjoyed a successful preseason against 8 higher level clubs and won 2 trophies, or more accurately 1.5! 16

I think that London Generals and General United were teams of the London General Omnibus Company, predecessors of London Transport, whom we also played.

Bari are based in Wanstead and we have also played Aberdeen (Wanstead) in 1899-1900 in the Leyton & District League, Wanstead Amateurs 1901-2 to 1902-3 in the South Essex League and Wanstead 1902-3 to 1909-10 in the South Essex League, FA Amateur Cup, Essex Senior Cup and Essex Junior Cup.

Derek Pedder – Press Officer & Archivist would like to thank Gavin Ellis, Bert Pedder, Fay Pedder, Terry Gilbert, Les Wilson and Julia Eason for their valuable work in connection with these fixtures.

Injury News Our sports therapist Alan Richards reports that (as at August 6th) “we have three injuries, all picked up in the last match against Dagenham and Redbridge. Dee GBDumaka had to be substituted early in the second half after straining a hip adductor and could be out for 2 weeks. Frank O'Shea suffered a bruised heel and James Butler has an ankle ligament injury.”

Good wishes from a Barking legend Legendary Barking player Reg Webster has sent the following message “Hi Derek, enjoyed reading about Ron Murrant Trophy match, nice to know they still remember the old club members who did so much for the club.

Hope you are keeping well and wish you and the club a very good season best wishes Reg Webster. ”Reg enjoys living in Helston, Cornwallhome of the famous Furry/Floral Dance (see above) but always remembers the club. 24
