ROLEX WATCHES When it comes to luxury watches, Rolex is one of the very first names that come to mind and they can often be found as star lots in the BHA Quality Collection auctions. In 1905 Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis began the Wilsdorf & Davis company in London. They moved to Switzerland in 1912 and the Rolex name was officially registered on 15 Nov 1915. Among the company's innovations are the first self-winding watch; the first waterproof watch case; the first wristwatch with a date on the dial; the first watch to show two timezones at once; and they are the first watchmakers to earn the chronometer certification for a wristwatch.
HOW TO SPOT A FAKE DIAL MOVEMENT: A real Rolex has a smooth second hand movement. The second hand stutters along inside the counterfeit watch. There should not be a ticking noise coming from a true Rolex. HEFT: A real Rolex is made of high-quality metals, and will weigh significantly more than a fake. WINDER: A true Rolex will have a finely-crafted winder with engravings and grooves. CYCLOPS LENS: The cyclops lens on the face of the true Rolex will magnify the date.
