As we approach the new year, many of us are reflecting on our days, our experiences, our successes, and our downfalls. We are using this information to reevaluate and plan for the upcoming days in the new year to make improvements in ourselves and our relationships so that our lives may become ones that are happier and in our control. The theme of this first issue of BARE is one that means a lot to me, as I have been struggling with being motivated and disciplined lately. This magazine only started off as a small project, but it quickly became something serious, and I invested a large amount of time into it. This magazine is a part of my new beginning for the new year, and it has been a joy to create it. The overall theme I want my magazine to symbolize is simplicity. Simplicity in design, in words, and in life. Leading a simple life is important. We live in a world filled with material items, and it makes us feel like we need a lot more than we actually do. Simplicity eliminates distractions and focuses in on what's most important. This is the space I am using to share stories and promote thoughts and ideas. I want this magazine to serve as a source of positive influence in the lives of others and inspire them to create a simple life for themselves so that they may achieve peace of mind. It is important that we remember that a new year does not equate to a brand new life, but rather, an improved life. We are all still growing and learning, and this is a lifelong process. Even though we are turning to a new page in our books, we must sometimes remember to revisit the pages we have written and reread them to understand more of our own story and our character to continue to learn more from the lessons of our past experiences. To all those who are reading this magazine, I hope something between these pages further sparks your desire to become a better you. I wish you luck as you continue your journey through this crazy, beautiful world. May you become more open-minded, loving, caring, and blossom into the truest and purest form of yourself that you are destined to be. Make your mark in this world, no matter how big or small. Go forth and seek greatness.

"I'M NOT SURE OF WHAT I'M DOING, BUT I'M GOING TO KEEP DOING IT." Student and aspiring graphic designer and editor Danni Ha has had her fair share of successes and failures. "Of course I still have so much more to learn, and there will be many bigger failures and rejections that I will have to go through before I start seeing some real success, but right now I am just happy that I am prepared to accept that this is just a part of the process and know that everything will fall into place as long as I keep giving it my all and when the time is right." Coming from a family of immigrants, Danni knew that she had to focus on school and make the best grades possible. However, that also got in the way of her natural urge to create things. "I have always loved designing things, but my parents have always

career. Like being a doctor. I was not encouraged to pursue what I loved, so I did not focus on creating a career out of designing things because I did not feel that I would receive my parents' support.." Danni has come a long way from this and has decided to not deny herself of a fulfilling life in which she makes a living from her natural talent. Being that this is only the beginning of her journey down this path, she still has much to learn and understand what she wants to do. "I know that this is only the start, but I am confident in my decision. I am dedicated, and I am sticking with this with an absolute intent of coming out successful in the end. As long as I keep going, I will keep growing."

Her move to a new city, living independently, and seeing a brand new part of the world. This is where she talks about her experiences in college, the lessons she has learned, her growth both professionally and personally. Blah blah blah. Idk. What she hopes to do after graduation and how she plans to inspire other young girls who struggle with feeling empowered and chasing their dreams. And a bunch of other stuff. Social media has become such a fundamental part of our daily lives, and

THOSE WHO MATTER MOST

it is easy to forget that it does not define our entire life. Money, followers, and fame are highlighted by multiple social media platforms, and while those are desirable things to have, they are not as much of a necessity as they may seem. We must remember that social media is a highlight reel of life that primarily showcases our best moments. It ignores our wost days and does not recognize our regular days where nothing special really happens. To live a fulfilling life, we must find things that make even our worst and most regular days fulfilling. Among all of the things that are capable of doing that (engaging in hobbies and passions, taking on new challenges, etc.), we must remember the main people who help make our days so special. Not the followers and fans, but our friends and family. The people who know us best and who always have our best interests at heart. They are your support system, your ride or dies, your confidants, and the ones you hold nearest and dearest to your heart. They are the ones who matter most.

Home

the is.

There are many words that hold a unique meaning for every individual. Home is one of them. What does it mean to you? For many, home is a place, for others, it is a feeling, and, for the lucky, it is a person. My home provides me with a feeling of comfort., safety, and an immensely passionate love. My home is warm and caring. It is not perfect, but its imperfections keep it interesting. My home is where I am not afraid to reveal my insecurities and imperfections. I am free to be myself when I am home. It is where I am free of judgment. My home is accepting and understanding. It is where I go to shed tears of sadness, and the reason why I shed tears of joy. My home is entertaining. It fills me with laughter and keeps my heart full of nothing but love. My home is far away, but I always carry it in my heart and find ways to keep it close. My home makes me smile and brings light into my life. My home is the one thing that remains a positive thought in my mind when I am a depressed mess and have nothing good to think of. My home inspires me and gives me hope for a beautiful and happy future. My home was made for me. No matter how far away it is, and even if things ever go wrong, I will always find my way back to it because I know in my heart that is where I belong. I am in love with my home, his name is Anthony, and home is wherever I am with him.

BE SHAMELESSLY UNLADYLIKE

30

Here's to the girls

who are struggling to understand what it is they need to do to stand out. To make people stop and do a double-take and to be well-liked. This is for the girls who doubt themselves and don't see their own true potential. The girls who have forgotten about their own greatness and who don't know their worth because they are constantly overlooked. The girls who have been stepped on and kept quiet. The girls who have not been given opportunities to discover and understand their power. The girls who have been taken advantage of and taken for granted. The girls who do not feel free. The girls who have not been given the love, attention, and appreciation they need and deserve. The girls who are able to identify their flaws with ease, but struggle with finding one good thing they see about themselves. The girls who smile all day at school and laugh with their friends, but cry themselves to sleep at night. The girls who know that they will never look like the girls in the magazines and on Instagram. They spend all their money on the best clothes, skin care products, and make-up, but still feel like they don't stack up against the others. They always feel like there is someone better, and that is true. There is always someone better, but there is only ever one you. You are unique. You are different and you do not need the adoration of strangers to feel like you are pretty and loved. You do not need any of that.

31

You are stronger and more beautiful than you think. You have so much to offer the world, and you need to take the time to understand who you are and who you want to be. No one is perfect, not even the girls you compare yourself to. Even they have imperfections and insecurities. It is important, however, that you only focus on yourself and your path. Learn to love yourself. Be kind to yourself and speak your truth. You have so much to offer the world, but you can't do that if you are the main person holding yourself back with negative thoughts and disbelief. Only focus on and believe in the good. Keep a genuine and positive mindset and you will attract others who do the same. Learn to forgive those who have hurt you and learn to forgive yourself for your mistakes. Free yourself from pain and know that you are enough. You do not need to be anyone but yourself. You are amazing. You are beautiful. You are like magic, and no one can take this from you. If you are changing, make sure that it is for yourself and your happiness, not anyone else. Let yourself shine as you are and never dim your light for the sake of anyone else's comfort. You will find love and success in your own time. Remember to be patient. This will all take some time, but it is worth it and you will achieve peace of mind. I hope you read these words and find truth and empowerment in them, whether it be now, in the near future, or much later in your journey through life.                                             Here's to the girls

who don't feel special.

32

33

To shine your brightest light is to be who you truly are.

34

push yourself

35

Think of your greatest and favorite accomplishment. How did it feel? How much sleep did you lose to achieve it? What internal drive helped you to keep going? We all have something inside of us to push ourselves to the limit and accomplish something extraordinary. We work hard and sacrifice for the things we want most, and sometimes that may even include doing things that we hate. But that's okay. It's all a part of the process. Determination and patience are key because things do not always happen as soon as you want them to. Hold a tight grip on your dreams and know that every day that you are doing something to work towards it is another day that you are getting closer to making it a reality. You are your number one motivator and you have complete control over the productivity of your day. Push yourself to make the most of it. Your time is limited, but your potential isn't. Your body and mind will help you do amazing things when you treat them right and believe in yourself. Mistakes may happen sometimes, but that is not an excuse to ever stop. You do not need to have it together all the time or even completely know what you are doing every step of the way. Play your part and put in the effort and others will show up to help when they see that you are genuinely trying. Setbacks may happen sometimes and that is when you need to remember to go with the flow and just keep with it. You got this and you'll get there. Just remember that overnight successes are not real and are not as great as they may seem. Take your time and push yourself and strong, long-term success will follow.
