3 Key qualities PERSEVEANCE BRAVERY HARDSHIP
What I find interesTING ABOUT JANE IS THAT SHE HAD A STUFFED ANIMAL NAMED JUBILEE. ALSO SHE GOT SICK WITH MALARIA IN SOUTH AFRICA, BUT DIDN'T GET SICK OTHER TIMES. IT WAS BAD LUCK THAT SHE GOT MALARIA.
I chose this person because SHE WORKS WITH animals.
When Jane was 18 and in Africa she fell sick with a bad fever called malaria. She still did not give up her dream. This was a hardship because she could have died. She didn't leave africa even though she was so sick.
poachers were kidnapping and killing the chimps and their babies. they needed jane to speak for them. she made speeches around the world about saving the chimps. i think it was really sad that they killed the mothers and took their babies to sell to labs, circuses, and as pets.
jane spent the night in a tent in the gombe stream reserve far from any human beings when she was 26 because louis leaky asked her to watch and study the chimpanzees. louis leakey was a famous scientist who gave her a job to watch the chimps. I think that it is scary that she did it all by herself. but she wanted to be there.
jane set up some organizations to help the chimps. she set up the jane goodall institute in 1977 to help communities and to teach them how to protect wildlife. i think it's nice she did that because the chimps would die if she didn't find a place for them to grow up.
jane became a special scientist that studies animals behavior. she found out that chimps are more like humans. I think that it is awesome that she is a woman and found that out.
when jane first began to observe the chimps, they ran away. after some time had passed, one chimp let jane get near him. jane called him david greybeard. then other chimps came around too. in 1960, jane began studying the chimps in the wild. jane learned that chimps made and used tools, fought battles to get more space, or to protect the space they already had. she also learned that chimps hunted animals and ate meat. i think it's good that she didn't give up. if she did give up, she would not be able to learn from the chimps. therefore, she would not be a change maker and i would not be able to study her. we learned how much they are like us!
the chimps are now protected and so is the forest. we learned they are a lot like us. the chimps are smart, playful, and have families. I think this is good because they would probably be extinct and there would be no trees in the forest anymore. we need trees to have oxygen so we can breathe. thank goodness for jane!
PERSEVERED WHEN .. she kept making speeches even when people didn't like it. Also when she started examining the chimps, they ran away from her at first. but then David greybeard, who was a chimp, came near her, other chimps came near her too.
