Improving spatial access to healthy foods in urban regions is recognized as an important component of reducing the prevalence of chronic illness and achieving better health outcomes. Widener's talk will explore the usefulness of reframing the food desert concept through a time-geographic lens and will present early findings.
Dr. Michael Widener is an urban and health geographer with current research interests in the effects urban form, in conjunction with social structures, has on access to healthcare.
