i Massage The History of Tha

Thai massage is believed to have been developed by Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha, physician to Buddha, more than 2,500 years ago in India. It made its way to Thailand, where the techniques and principles gradually became influenced by traditional Chinese medicine. Thai massage is an ancient Ayurvedic healing art. Through application of pressure on energy lines and points, and a vast array of passive stretching movements performed with the hands, feet, knees and elbow’s, the body experiences profound relaxation, peripheral stimulation of internal organs, increased flexibility and increased flow of energy. It is performed on a futon on the floor with the client comfortably dressed.

For centuries, Thai massage was performed by monks as one component of Thai medicine. The best thing about Thai massage is that, like yoga you get flexibility, inner organ massage, oxygenation of the blood and quieting of the mind. Through deep muscle stretching, joint release and emphasis on the breath, Thai massage offers many of the same benefits as yoga. It’s amazing how much more we are able to move when another person is providing assistance and encouraging us to relax. It is an interactive form of bodywork, quite unlike any other Western or Eastern forms. While it does include work by the practitioner kneading muscles, what makes it particularly helpful is its unique stretching. You remain passive while the practitioner does the movements to you. .

Virtually every kind of massage is available in Pattaya but the four basic massages you will find are: 1. Thai Traditional Massage – involves a vigorous treatment of over 80 areas of the body. Using hand pressure and even the masseuse’s own body to apply forces, the aim is to work specific pressure points and to re-align energy lines in the body. In Pattaya you will find traditional massage venues at almost every street corner. Most places are small, with about 5-10 almost exclusively female staff. The venues are clean but not overly fashionable. Massages are given in a common room, with curtains in between customers. The recommended time for a massage is 2 hours. This is now mostly priced at 300 baht, but you should give a tip of 50-100 baht to the massage girl separately.

To open a massage venue, the masseuses need to be certified (at least some will be). There is an easy way to figure out whether someone has been trained properly in the art of Massage. At the beginning of the massage the masseuse will pressure your femoral arteries on your legs

on both sides for about 15-30 seconds. If done properly, you will feel your arteries pumping vigorously against the girl’s wrist. If this does not happen, it means they are not capable to find the proper location, applying the right pressure in that area.

After the legs usually the arms are massaged. The last and most pleasurable part of the massage will concentrate on your back and neck. Lightly built girls will walk all over you and massage you with their heels. When they make you sit up, they will probably want to crack your spine. If you are uncomfortable with this you should tell them. Body language will usually be understood, and some of the girls will ask you whether they can do it.

Traditional Thai Massage can be found every where in Pattaya. Along Soi Bukhao, Walking Street, South Pattaya Road they are almost on every corner.

2. Oil Massage - not as strong and vigorous as Traditional Thai Massage specially blended oils are used in deep muscle treatment. Oil massage is more highly priced than traditional Thai massage at about 300-400 baht per hour. It is a different kind of massage all together. You have to take off all of your clothes (for traditional massage, you are given a pajama outfit). There may be some traditional massage added to it, but oil massage mostly consists of gently rubbing the skin all over your body. As it turns out, as you are male and in the nude, the masseuse girl will at the end most likely ask you whether you need some ‘special’ massage. She might be disappointed if you decline this offer.

3. Foot Massage - According to Chinese medicine, the sensory nerves of the internal organs that spread throughout the body are mainly gathered around the soles of the feet. Therefore, the massage is effective in stimulating the functions of the internal organs.

Another advantage of this therapy is that there is no risk. Expert masseurs will deal with the critical points on the feet with utmost care. The pain felt there will disappear when the masseur finishes the process. For a full hour you will get attention concentrated solely on your feet and lower legs. So if you had a long day of sightseeing, it may look very appealing. Prices are at about 250 baht for an hour. 4. Sexual Massage - For those who’ve not yet been privileged enough to experience a Thai body massage, you’re in for the experience of a lifetime, literally! It’s a heavenly transport of delight.

First, though, you need to be aware that a body massage is radically different from a regular Thai massage, which consists of being pounded and pummeled by malicious sadists. The other normal Thai massage is a gentler foot massage, designed to induce relaxation. Ladies sitting behind glass window in the massage parlour

The introduction to a Thai sexual massage starts in the Massage Parlour. You will usually be introduced to a dozen or more women sitting behind a glass partition (fish bowl) and after making your choice, you will after paying the fee of approximately 1,500 Baht plus drinks, follow the woman of your choice, armed with a bagful of soap products and sponges, to lead you by the hand to the allocated bath and relaxation room, where you both disrobe and don towels. She then lies you down on a pneumatic lie-lo, takes off both of your towels and proceeds to soap you all over with a sponge, turning you over as necessary. During this time, your mind is churning through endless possibilities, either in delicious anticipation, if you’re already experienced, or in wild, erotic fantasies, if you’re not.

Following this, she runs you a hot bath. Then you’re led to a bathtub and helped in. After which, the fun begins and, believe me, even in your wildest reveries, you won’t be able to conjure up the delights which are to follow! She first soaps herself all over using aromatic, liquid soap, producing a rich, oily lather and then she proceeds to soap you all over, likewise. Then your Siamese sanooky (Thai for enjoyment) begins to use her body as a sponge.

This beautiful, slim, young, maiden with rippling, gentle curves of supple power begins to wrap herself around you in ways that defy description; sinuously sliding up and down your body until you are both totally breathless with desire. Under, over, sideways she slides, so far and no further, pausing and sliding away, just as you’re burning to enter her. This continues for about 15 excruciatingly tantalizing minutes, by which time you’re totally insatiable.

What conditions is Thai massage used for?

Many people find that Thai massage has the following benefits: relaxes reduces stress improves circulation increases energy increases flexibility improves range of motion centers the mind and body

Massage is not recommended for certain people: infectious skin disease, rash, or open wounds immediately after surgery immediately after chemotherapy or radiation, unless recommended by your doctor prone to blood clots. There is a risk of blood clots being dislodged. If you have heart disease, check with your doctor before having a massage pregnant women should check with their doctor first if they are considering getting a massage. Massage in pregnant women should be done by massage therapists who are certified in pregnancy massage.

massage should not be done directly over bruises, inflamed skin, unhealed wounds, tumors, abdominal hernia, or areas of recent fractures.

Additional tips

Don’t eat a heavy meal before the massage If it’s your first time at the clinic or spa, arrive at least 10 minutes early to complete the necessary forms. Otherwise, arrive 5 minutes early so you can have a few minutes to rest and relax before starting the massage. Be sure that your massage therapist has your complete health history, because people with certain conditions should not have Thai massage. If you feel discomfort at any time, let your massage therapist know. Well, there you have it. Finding the right massage venue and Masseuse I suppose is a lot like finding a good Barber. Regardless of what kind of massage you prefer, through a little trial and error you will find your favorite place and Masseuse.

Here’s To Your Health Pattaya Reflexology The Art of Feeling Good In this month’s issue of Here’s To Your Health in staying congruent with the central theme of this month’s magazine Massage - I thought touching on the subject of Reflexology or what most people know as Foot Massage would be a good idea. It seems there is hardly a corner of town these days that does not have something relative to Thai massage and foot massage. I think it could be said that the popularity of massage in Thailand has grown significantly as more and more people discover the benefits. And there are truly many benefits than can be gained and as inexpensive as it is, Pattaya is a great place to get indoctrinated into the practice.

Reflexology What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is the application of appropriate pressure to specific points and areas on the feet, hands, or ears. Reflexologists believe that these areas and reflex points correspond to different body organs and systems, and that pressing them has a beneficial effect on the organs and person’s general health. For example, reflexology holds that a specific spot in the arch of the foot corresponds to the bladder point. When a reflexology practitioner uses thumbs or fingers to apply appropriate pressure to this area, it affects bladder functioning. 55

Although reflexology is not used to diagnose or cure health disorders, millions of people around the world use it to complement other treatments when addressing conditions like anxiety, asthma, cancer treatment, cardiovascular issues, diabetes, headaches, kidney function, PMS, and sinusitis. Reflexology is growing increasingly popular across Europe and Asia as both a complement to other treatments and as a preventive measure. One example is Denmark, where various municipalities and companies have employed reflexologists since the early ‘90s. According to several studies, this practice in Denmark has resulted in reduced sick leave and absenteeism (and significant economic savings for the employers). Employees have consistently reported complete or partial improvement in conditions where they sought reflexologists’ help and even relief for additional problems related to stress. In one municipal district, almost one-third of the employees reported greater satisfaction with their jobs after completing six sessions with a reflexologist.

Where are the reflexology points and areas? In reflexology theory, points and areas on the feet, hands, and ears correspond to specific organs, bones and body systems. Practitioners access these points on the feet and hands (bottom, sides, and top) and the ear (both inside as far as the finger can reach and outside) to affect organs and systems throughout the entire body. Maps of reflex points have been passed between practitioners across the globe. Understandably, there is not agreement among all reflexologists on all points; however, general agreement does exist on major reflex points. Some scientific documentation of linkages between the skin and internal organs also exists. 56

To represent how the body systems correspond to one another, reflexologists use reflexology “maps.” A good example of a reflexology map exists for the feet. Each foot represents a vertical half of the body: ì The left foot corresponds to the left side of the body and all organs, valves, etc. found there. ì The right foot corresponds to the right side of the body and all organs found there. For example, the liver is on the right side of the body, and therefore the corresponding reflex area is on the right foot. The illustration to the right shows a reflexology map for the feet. For a map of the hands, see A reflexologist may perform a general, integrated session, or may focus on specific problem areas on the feet, hands or ears. For example, if time is limited and the person really needs to relax, the reflexologist may choose just to work on the ears. Whatever the approach, the reflexologist attempts to release congestion or stress in the nervous system and balance the body’s energy.

How does reflexology relate to other therapies?

Acupuncture and Acupressure: Reflexology is similar to acupuncture and acupressure in that it works with the body’s vital energy through the stimulation of points on the body. However, acupuncture/acupressure points do not always coincide with the reflex points used in reflexology. Reflexology and acupressure are both “reflex” therapies in that they work with points on one part of the body to affect other parts of the body. While reflexology uses reflexes that are in an orderly arrangement resembling a shape of the human body on the feet, hands, and outer ears, acupressure uses over 800 reflex points that are found along long thin energy lines called meridians that run the length of the entire body. How Does Reflexology differ from Massage? Some people confuse reflexology with massage. While both massage and reflexology use touch, the approaches are very different. 57

ì Massage is the systematic manipulation of the soft tissues of the body, using specific techniques (for example, tapping, kneading, stroking, and friction) to relax the muscles. ì Reflexology focuses on reflex maps of points and areas of the body in the feet, hands, and ears using unique micromovement techniques such as thumb or finger walking and hook and backup to create a response throughout the body. In short, massage therapists work “from the outside in,” manipulating specific muscle groups or fascia to release tension. Reflexology practitioners see themselves as working “from the inside out” stimulating the nervous system to release tension. Another difference betweenmassage and reflexology is that a client will stay fully clothed for a reflexology session except for removing footwear, whereas clients remove clothing for a massage session.

Where does reflexology come from?

Because reflexology is an ancient practice, its origin and history is difficult to track. However, reflexology is thought to have been passed down through an oral tradition, and possibly first recorded as a pictograph on the Egyptian tomb of Ankhamor in 2330 BC along with other medical procedures. Reflexology symbols are also thought to be recorded on the feet of statues of Buddha in India and later China. The Chinese classic, the Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine, which was written around 1,000 BC, has a chapter on “Examining Foot Method” and is the beginning of discussions in print about the connection of life force and points and areas on the feet. It is believed that Marco Polo translated a Chinese massage book into Italian in the 1300s, thus introducing reflexology and massage to Europe. Finding a good place for reflexology is quite easy here in Pattaya. Experiment and try several as the one you like the best will most probably be the one you feel the most comfortable in.

Everyone knows before they get here that Pattaya is an Entertainment town like no other. There is truly something for everyone here and this does not mean just girls or just men or anything in between. But rather, entertainment comes in all shapes and sizes. If live music is your thing, then there are a lot of great places around. Just as there are Go-Go’s, Beer Bars, Gay Clubs. LadyBoy Venues and Cabaret.

The great thing about Pattaya is that Entertainment is never far away. Just step outside your hotel room any time of the day or night and there are smiles to be had and entertainment to enjoy. Keep your wits about you. Walking Street is considered a Disneyland for Adults but not for kids who can’t handle their drinks or do not have enough street knowledge to play safe.

Beer bars are a good way to keep your spending within a reasonable limit, most times.

Whichever you choose, make sure you are polite to everyone including the local people and stay within reasonable sobriety limits so as to have good judgement. If you really want to see the other side of a not so great night, visit the Soi 9 Police Dept on any given night around 3 AM and you will observe the myriad of situations that can happen in an exciting place like Pattaya. There is a lot of fun to be had if you use your common sense. 59

The Thai National Anthem I remember the first time I came to Thailand and went to a movie with a date. When everyone got up to respect the National Anthem, I thought it was some kind of emergency drill and expected everyone to be running out of the theatre. Now, 20 years later, this has become one of the common backdrops of my life here. You will hear it in the morning at 8 A.M. and at night at 6 P.M.

Think of how cool it would be if you could actually sing the words to this song the next time you are together and it plays. WOW!

The National Anthem of Thailand was adopted on 10 December 1939. The melody was composed by Phra Jenduriyang (Peter Feit) and the words are by Luang Saranuprapan. Phleng Chat (Thai : à¾Å§ªÒµÔ ), literally meaning "national anthem", is a general word for national anthem. Phleng Chat Thai (Thai : à¾Å§ªÒµÔä·Â), Thailand's national anthem, is also used to refer to this specific song.

The anthem was composed a few days after the 1932 coup in the tune vaguely similar to the national anthem of Poland, Poland Is Not Yet Lost, and was first broadcast in July 1932. The original lyrics were by Khun Wichitmatra. Before 1932, Phleng Sansoen Phra Barami (the Royal Anthem) was used as the national anthem of Siam.

In 1934, Thai Government launched the competitions for the official national anthem, both with music and lyrics. For the music, Jangwang Tua Patayakosol composed another tune in a more traditional style called "Phleng Maha Nimit" for making the decision to the government but they still selected Phra Jenduriyang's melody because it sounded more modern. After that, in the competition for the lyrics with Phra Jenduriyang's music, the original words by Khun Wichitmatra won the first prize and still used as an official lyrics with, however, a minor edit and an additional version which wrote by Chan Khamvilai and won the second prize. In 1939, when the name of the country was changed from Siam to Thailand, a competition was launched to create new lyrics, with those by Luang Saranuprapan winning. Prime minister Phibunsongkhram ordered the anthem to be played every day at 8.00 and 18.00, and ordering the populace to stand up to show respect for the nation. That law is still in force today.

L ove

you, L ov e y o u r mo n ey Pat t ay a B ar Gi rl L o ve Sto ry I'm a fairly generous guy. I enjoy giving gifts as much as receiving them, so to some extent I beleive I'm thought of as one of the good ones when it comes to Lady drinks and tips. Not over the top, but someone who pays his way. Quite a few years ago I had a girl from Soi 6 in Patttaya. Anyone who knows this infamous street knows it's full of short time bars and the girls are there because it's quick easy money. I got to know one bar girl who called herself Tim (real name Taen). She was OK and we went off together when I was in town. There was never anything about this relationship but I would buy her small gifts. She had a thing about wearing football (soccer) shirts over her very short denims, so I bought her a genuine one from England but she gave it to her son, Yo. I bought her a watch in Bangkok. Nothing fancy but she gave it to her son (a girls watch!).

I never saw her wear or use anything I gave her, so I stopped. Eventually she told me she had a regular boy friend, and she was moving back to her home in Korat with him. They were going to start up a shop using some land next to her parents house. He was Danish and I will call him Lars (not wanting to upset anyone). I said, "Great, good for you" thinking at least I won't be spending any more money on her. Good luck mate. About 3 years passed by and I get an email from Taen - by coincidence I was in Pattaya at the time.

Lars Dead – come see me "Lars die", she said, please come see me in Soi 6. So there she was, back in the bar, with memories of her friend, who apparently, died in a motorbike accident in Sydney at Christmas time. She was quite tearful as she showed me pictures of the coffin and a letter from the man's mother in Copenhagen promising to help the family as much as she could. I was a bit sceptical so, I scanned through the Sydney newspapers for a story about a Danish motorcyclist who had come to grief at Christmas time whilst on holiday. I found no story. My suspicions were roused but I gave her the benefit of the doubt. She came back to Bangkok with me and stayed at my apartment. For days she did nothing but lounge around and sleep. I was getting rightly pissed off to find she hadn't even bothered to get any food in or do anything, so I asked what she intended doing now. She said I could give her 20,000 Baht a month if liked. "No thanks", I replied.

"But I need to pay off big debt – I need 200,000 Baht - you can give to me". Slightly astonished I asked her if I heard right "You want me to give you 200,000 Baht?" "Yes, you good man" She had boasted earlier about a brand new Honda SUV Lars had bought, so I suggested she sold the car – must be worth at least 500,000 Baht

"Oh no, that's Lars car" "But he's dead, he won't be needing it". "Yo can use it" (Yo is now 15 years old) So with no further ado, I sent her on her way, and off she went, crying her eyes out. Generous I may be, stupid, I am not.

N o w, h e r e ' s t h e t w i s t . Around about 2 years later again, I get an email "You remember my sister, Taen, she have son Yo. Taen now very sick. You good man, send money for Yo so have good school". I asked by email how come Lars family aren't taking care, (as the letter promised). One more email came saying it was too late "Taen die today". You not give money for Taen or Yo.' It would seem that I was the bad guy after all. Was the email really from her sister or was it sent by Taen trying to extort more money from me? Did Lars die in Sydney? Did Lars ever exist? I'll never know, but I bet the Honda is still sitting proudly outside the house – if that ever existed! Live and Learn 80
