After pre-season polls ranked them as the worst team in the league, the Montreal Alouettes capped off their season with a huge Grey Cup win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in Hamilton. After 13 years without making it to the CFL’s championship game, the Als defeated the 16-2 Toronto Argonauts in a shocking upset to advance. Most experts predicted their miracle run to come to an end against Winnipeg However, Montreal proved them all wrong, winning their eighth game straight against a Blue Bombers squad that had made it to four straight Grey Cups, denying them their third trophy in four seasons.

The Alouettes were down by ten at the end of the first half, but they rallied in the second, taking the lead with just 13 seconds left, all thanks to a clutch drive led by QB Cody Fajardo, who had gone winless against Winnipeg QB Zach Collaros in nine previous meetings. When asked what the win meant to him, Fajardo said “I'm very thankful for going out and playing for the people that believed in me as opposed to the naysayers and the haters." After being 10.5-point underdogs in the Eastern Final and 8.5-point underdogs in the Grey Cup, it’s safe to say that the Alouettes have completed one of the unlikeliest stories in Canadian Football history.
