When everything around us is digital, all we crave sometimes is that touch.

When everything around is digital, all we crave sometimes is that touch. We’re consumed with constant meaningless updates all over us and forget what’s important. The idea behind the store was to create something tangible that you can carry around as a reminder of what it’s all about.

7

The products in the store are meant to become daily bits of inspiration, to be something that will make you stop, slow down, pause, think, reflect, make smarter decisions, and appreciate the time a little more. We need these reminders that can take us out of the ordinary. My name is Anastasia and I’m a photographer in Los Angeles. I have two business degrees, but I’m not the corporate kind. I love creating things. I wanted to create something timeless. These products will become your triggers for going on epic adventures. I found the best designers to help me craft the best products and packaging that will make you smile from the moment you receive something from me. I want to inspire you to live a happy life doing what you love and make memorable experiences the focus of everyday life.

“It’s no secret that a lot of things in human life have cycles. We make progress in something, but still long the wilderness of life from the past. We spend 5-8 hrs per day in our phones and computers. We make enough money to live a good life, or whatever others define as a good life. But in reality a lot of times we’d trade that for some offline luxury. ” –Anastasia Petukhova

WHAT ABOUT THE NAME? The name “Anywhere Wild” comes from a classic quote by John Muir. When wanting directions out of town he was asked by the man “Where do you want to go?”, to which he replied “Anywhere that is wild”. This quote embodies a “take all” attitude to adventure. We aren’t bound to any specific location or activity, but embrace adventure and outdoor activity wherever it can be found. This is our adopted ethos, and felt like an appropriate inspiration for our name.

As kids, summers meant escaping to the lake. Whether it was taking the boat out at sunset, sharing stories around the bonfire, or jumping off a well-worn dock, life was simply better at the lake. From Summer excursions to Northern Minnesota and weekend jaunts to Hayward, Wisconsin – some of our most vivid memories were created with friends and family around the lake. Great Lakes has always been a product of the values we were raised on. We were taught to work hard but always find time to enjoy the finer things in life. To seek adventure and be proud of where you come from. We work tirelessly to infuse these values into our brand, our products, and the way we do business.

THANKSGIVING IN TAOS, MEXICO Our friends invited us to stay for the Holiday at a place called Hotel Luna Mystica, a little 10 camper hotel just outside of Taos in the New Mexico desert. With all sorts of different vintage campers to stay in, including the ever popular Air Stream. The views provided flat land sights, tall grass and sights peering into the canyon where Angel Fire and Ski Taos are. At a highly affordable nightly rate. OUR STORY

Creative Explorers

Hi, I’m Cameron. My wife Casi and I and thousands of local Arizonan’s sparked this movement. Here’s our story. As high school teachers and natives of Arizona, we have been fortunate enough to use our time off to adventure the southwest. We thought it would be fun to start a blog to document our hikes with family and friends. We began sharing our experiences via our site Arizona Hikers Guide and it quickly became a popular way for others to enjoy the wilderness as much as we

did. After a few years of blogging and hosting outdoor group events, we developed an overwhelming sense of pride and love for our community and our state. We also realized others we met felt the same way. We began to feel an obligation to do more to protect our lands and to give back to the areas that we had been freely enjoying. And so Keep it Wild was born.

55

THE PROBLEM WE FACE The Southwest landscape is awesome and because it is so awesome it attracts millions of people every year to enjoy its beauty and grandeur. Due to massive budget cuts, many states are limited in both funds and resources to keep up with the increasing demand for nature. This places a heavy burden on our wild places and however infinite and indestructible they may seem, they need to be nurtured.

THE SOLUTION 1. We sell awesome products and take the funds we generate to impact local wild places. A portion of every purchase you make on our site goes to an active project or organization to restore, maintain, and preserve our wild places. To find an upcoming Cleanup click here!

Keep it Wild

2. We actually get out there and do something about it. We use the power of social media to promote volunteerism and responsible outdoor recreation. Use our Events Calendar to find upcoming events in your area. Our partnerships with local organizations allow us opportunities to get out into the wild and make a difference. As we grow so will our reach and ultimately our impact on keeping the southwest wild. We all play a role, and if you don’t know what yours is don’t worry, read on!

Parks Project

66

Creative Explorers

A few years ago we signed up to volunteer in the Santa Monica Mountains, figuring a little hard work in one of our favorite places would be a good way to contribute. We found there was a lack of participation from our generation. Have we forgotten about the treasures we already own? We decided to do something about it.

During our time volunteering with park staff, we learned about all the unique projects that needed funding, advocacy and support. Out of that need (and our love for parks), Parks Project was born. Inspired by our time at TOMS, we made a plan to create collections of park goods that directly fund backlogged projects in the parks.

67

Parks Project

Each collection of quality goods is made with purpose and helps fund a project in our parks. Passionate pioneers fought to protect America’s greatest landscapes & most awe-inspiring views, creating our national parks. Parks Project was created to make sure we don’t forget.

69

OUR MISSION At Parks Project we are on an adventure with a purpose. We have a passion for the outdoors and believe it’s our responsibility to promote, protect, and preserve these spaces. Whether it’s supporting bear conservation in Denali or organizing trail restorations in Muir Woods; our convictions, commitments, character, and attitudes are best summed up by our respect for, and trust in, the outdoors.

A CALL TO ACTION “We the people” own 84 million acres of pristine park wilderness that need our attention, action, & funding. Passionate pioneers fought to protect America’s greatest landscapes & most awe-inspiring views, creating our national parks. Parks Project was created to make sure we don’t forget. Giving back to our parklands means more than just writing a check. As an official business partner to the National Parks, we work directly with over 30 park conservancies across the US who have boots on the ground inside our parks.

TOGETHER, WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE Becoming emotionally and physically invested in our nation’s parks is the most effective way to implement park conservation. The pure purpose of our business is to energize more people to get involved in protecting these beautiful places, and we encourage folks to engage in volunteering for the betterment of the parks.

“Hi! My names Emme and I’m the face behind the brand you all know as Waves to Wilderness. I’m sure most 17 year olds can relate that the summer before your senior year of high school is spent contemplating what in the world you want to do with your life and how you’re going to survive out in the “adult world”. Well, I couldn’t picture myself sitting at a desk all day or working a 9-5 but any of my friends or family could tell you that I’m happiest when I’m outside with a camera in my hand. After much thought and lots of sketching I decided to take the plunge on Waves to Wilderness. A lot has happened since then but, 4 years later, I couldn’t be more content with the choice I made back then. I’m originally from the land of 10,000 lakes (Minnesota) but after my freshman year of college I guess you could say the “mountains were calling me” and I made the move out west to Lake Tahoe to attend Sierra Nevada College. I still live in Tahoe and I have recently took on Waves to Wilderness full time.

Waves to Wilderness

So, I cant say thank you enough to all of you for making my dream a reality because it wouldn’t have been possible without the support of each and every one of YOU!“

WHAT IS WOOSAH? Woosah Outfitters is a naturally inspired art and apparel brand based out of Grand Rapids, MI featuring the artwork of founder and owner, Erica Lang. The designs and drive behind Woosah revolve largely around woodcuts and the outdoors. Each design and product is hand crafted here in Grand Rapids in limited edition runs.

93

WHAT DOES IT MEAN? Woosah is a slang word that brings a sense of inner peace, calmness and stillness when said out loud. Take a deep breath in, and exhale; that’s Woosah. For founder Erica Lang there are two things that bring her Woosah: spending days in the studio carving and printing woodblocks, and being emerged in the stillness and beauty of nature.

WHAT’S A WOODCUT?

What’s a woodcut?

The woodcut is literally the oldest and raddest form of printmaking techniques. The process goes like this: Carve the Block Carve an image backwards into a block of wood. The reason for carving backwards is because the image is reversed when printed. Many different types of wood can be used for carving, I prefer to carve MDF because there is no woodgrain which allows for cleaner lines. When carving a woodblock, the lines that are carved away are not printed, therefore you are carving the areas that you would not like to print.

Once the woodblock is all inked up and looking all sorts of sexy...

Ink the Block

Edition of the Block

The final carved block creates a surface that is raised (the areas you left are higher than the areas you carved away) which allows for ink to be applied with a brayer. I use oil based inks, and when printing on textiles I use Drive By Black ink by Gamblin because it dries much faster.

Once you are happy with the printed image, you can print an edition. An edition is a set number of prints that are consistent in their printing. These prints are numbered out of the total number of prints. For example if you pulled 100 prints, you would “edition” these prints 1/100, 2/100, 3/100 and so on. This allows each print to be an authentic original because there are only so many of them existing in this beautiful world, it also allows for people to know what print they have, I often get requests for a certain number in the edition. Once the edition is complete, that woodblock should never be printed in the same way, ever again in the history of forever. Whoa. Neato!

Print the Block Once the woodblock is all inked up and looking all sorts of sexy, it can either be printed by hand by placing a piece of paper face down and using a spoon or thumb to apply pressure, or my preferred method (due to consistency and aint nobody got time for that) is using an etching press. This piece of equipment is life. It allows for different levels of pressure to be applied evenly on your substrate. Etching presses can be used for printing woodblocks and intaglio.

DO IT AGAIN!

Woosah Outfitters

It’s addictive, and fun. If you would like to try this process out you can purchase Linoleum blocks from Hobby Lobby or Michaels, these are soft, rubber like surfaces that are beyond easy to carve. Have at it!

96

If you focus on what lights you up, what inspires you, what motivates you, thats the most powerful thing. “Nature has always been very grounding for me, it has always been my source for inspiration for making art and it is also where I go to, to relax, unplug, and reconnect.” – Erica Lang
