What does Balwyn Evergreen do? At Balwyn Evergreen, we offer a range of home and community-based services designed to support older people, people with a disability and their carers to remain living independently in their own home and to maintain their connection in the community. Sometimes life circumstances can limit your ability to get out and about in your community, but we can give you a hand to do things you enjoy, whatever they are. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle includes having connections and relationships with other people and participating in community life. Whether its to visit the shops or meeting a friend at a café, a sense of belonging and shared experiences improves your overall quality of life. With a little help from us, you can be involved in your community in all kinds of meaningful ways including developing your artistic, cultural, physical and social interests, as well as maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle.

Social Support Individual Social Support Individual (SSI) Program A friendly visiting volunteer Our volunteers are very friendly and more than happy to have a chat and a cuppa if you’re feeling isolated. This helps you in reconnecting with the wider community. Our volunteers can also give you a daily call and keep in touch.

Assisting People and their pets at Home For many people pets are the most important companion in their lives but illness or frailty can make caring for pets too difficult to manage alone. Social Support Individual helps frail older people and people with disabilities to care for their animal companions at home.

Walking the Dog Regular exercise helps keep a dog happy and healthy. If illness, injury or other changes in circumstances prevents an owner from walking their dog, a SSI volunteer can help.

How to Apply for SSI Assistance If because of frailty or disability, you require assistance to continue living independently with your pet, you can apply to the Social Support Individual program for help. To access the service, you must become a Member of Balwyn Evergreen and pay the Annual Membership fee – other conditions apply. To apply for SSI assistance please contact Balwyn Evergreen by calling 9836 9681 or email to brenda.dennis@balwynevergreen.org.au.
