Welcome to the Balwyn Evergreen Newsletter. We do hope 2020 has started well for you! Over the next two months the Newsletter will be undergoing changes, so that programs and activities you are interested in can be easier to locate. Feel free to contribute feedback on the information that you want to see included in this newsletter. Following Simone Arndt’s appointment as Exercise Coordinator in January this year, we have reviewed the exercise program and the exercise timetable. The timetable has been recast to better describe

Highlights of the Month • Exercise that focuses on fitness, fun, and friendship • Wednesday Concerts and Creative Arts Sessions • Active Living Group Moomba Celebrations • Tuesday Outings to Sorrento, Macedon Ranges, Gippsland, and Karwarra Australian Plant Nursery • Thursday Explorers visits to Animal Rescue Sanctuary at Lancefield and Caroline Springs for Lunch

Evergreen Arts Class

the activity in each class. New programs are planned, and will be rolled out over the next two months. On the 1st July 2019, the Aged Care Quality Standards were introduced. The change has resulted in a rewrite of BEC Policies, Procedures and Risk Management/Safety practices. The Standards focus on Consumer Choice and Outcomes. During March, BEC will be audited by ACQS to check if our processes and actions are in alignment with the Standards. There are eight Standards; over the next 8 months we will feature one of the Standards.

During the latter part of 2019, we conducted a Consumer Survey; future Newsletters will outline the results of that Survey. Thank you to all who participated. The overriding focus of all our processes is the safety of our Consumers, Staff and Volunteers. We wish you an enjoyable and active month at Balwyn Evergreen. Ken McQualter, CEO of Balwyn Evergreen

Social Support Individual Program If you need some support to remain socially active in the community, our Social Support volunteers can help to engage with you and assist you in remaining self-sufficient. Our volunteers are very friendly and more than happy to have a chat and a cuppa if you’re feeling isolated, helping you to reconnect or remain connected with the wider community. They can also give you a daily call and keep in touch. For many people, pets are the most important companion in their lives. However, illness or frailty can make caring for pets too difficult to manage alone. Our Social Support Individual program helps frail older people and people with disabilities to care for their animal companions at home. Regular exercise helps keep your pets happy and healthy. If illness, injury or other changes in circumstances prevents you from walking your dog, a SSI volunteer can help. Accompanied Appointments and Shopping
