We are a flower arranging club meeting once a month in The Church of Broom on the second Wednesday of the month except in July and August. The meetings start at 2pm and take the form of a flower arranging demonstration followed by a cup of tea. First meeting is on 12th Sept when Rosalyn Harrison from Cumbria will be giving the demonstration entitled “Sensational Autumn”. Come along and join us for this our first meeting of the new session, you will be warmly welcomed and will be treated to tea and home baking. We also run hands on workshops for those who wish to learn the basics and in some cases more advanced flower arranging. Each year we choose two young adults from local schools to attend a week long leadership camp. A typical evening consists of a meal (£10) followed by a speaker, after which the various club committees discuss plans for upcoming charitable and social events. Lodge Newton Mearns No.1706 When? 7.30pm Where? Fairweather Hall, Barrhead Road Burns’ Nights are held all over the world each January to celebrate the birth of Scotland’s most famous poet who was also a well-known Freemason. For many Lodges, the annual Burns’ Night is one of the highlights of the year – an evening filled with poems, song and laughter fuelled by haggis, neeps, tatties and a dram of whisky. Lodge Newton Mearns No.1706 would like to invite members of the public with an interest in learning something about Freemasonry to a “mini” Burns’ Night There will be a chance to sample some of the fun of a Masonic Burns’ Night with a taste of haggis (along with a glass of Scotland’s other national drink), and learn something of the Masonic Order that is open to men of all backgrounds and beliefs. Charity is one of the cornerstones of Freemasonry and Lodge Newton Mearns regularly donates funds to the local Silver Thread Club and Mearns Primary School. There will be a number of stalls that will have an Eco theme, from making apple juice to observing bees in a transparent hive, to cycling MOT's. This event will be especially attractive to families and children who can expect to enjoy the different activities as well as gain an understanding of the history of apples, and, through the recently planted Community Orchard in Rouken Glen Park, can see how volunteer, the Council and local business can work together to conserve and improve the environment for all.
