"I wanted a dress that adhered to the tradition, but still made me look like a princess”

habile says that she wouldn’t change one thing about her wedding day. She laughs when asked how Sizwe proposed: “He didn’t really propose. He only asked me for my family’s contact details and told me he is planning to send his uncles for lobola negotiations.” She says: “Our wedding was a beautiful Xhosa traditional wedding. It started with umembeso, where the groom’s family presents the bride’s family and relatives with gifts. The second session was the officiation, during which the pastor renders a sermon and the bride and groom exchange vows.” The couple got married at Umnsinsini, on the south coast of KwaZulu-Natal. The venue was Thabile’s home – she says that they chose the venue for two reasons: “It’s customary for traditional weddings to be held at the bride’s house, and we both loved the landscape that the area offers. The venue is spacious, the forestry surrounding it was ideal for our wedding pictures and it seemed the most ideal place for the memories we were hoping
