“Everything is beautiful….at the BALLET”

~A Chorus Line

LA BAYADERE Summer Performance 2011

It’s true what they say….everything WAS beautiful at the ballet! On July 21st, art patrons in St. Tammany Parish were once again treated to a performance of the highest caliber when Ballet Apetrei presented “Excerpts from La Bayadere” at the Furhmann Auditorium at the Greater Covington Center in Covington. Set in the Royal India of the past, La Bayadère is a story of eternal love, mystery, fate, vengeance, and justice. The ballet relates the drama of a temple dancer (bayadère), Nikiya, who is loved by Solor, a noble warrior. She is also loved by the High Brahmin, but does not love him in return, as she does Solor.

Variations of ”Nikiya” were performed by Bailey Gutierrez, Christina Fowler, and Anna K. Hoz. Variations of “Gamzatti”, Nikiya’s nemesis, were performed by Gabrielle Fourchy, Kaitlyn King, and Allison Eckert. “Solo Gypsies” Monica Bravo and Caroline Leighton were joined by “Bayaderes” Natalie Zimmer, Elizabeth Kuebel, Hannah Waldron, and Rachel Pecoraro. Senior Company dancers also in performance included: Cristina Contreras, Emily Kuebel, Alexis deZayas, Christina Ferrando, Sarah Stembel, Victoria Chabaud, and Kit Braddick. An outstanding production by BALLET APETREI’S Junior Company was an early evening highlight. Junior Company Dancers performing included: Elizabeth Nader, Kimberly Maduell, Sofia Downing, Amanda Foto, Abby Landwehr, Lauren Cassanova, Caroline Hebert, Alexis Gutierrez, Margaret Mena, and Genna Jordan.

Additional program instructors and choreographers ncluded Luis Fuente, former principal dancer and Ballet Master of the Joffrey Ballet, who choreographed a Flamenco number, and Ken Burbin, currently with the Boston Ballet, who choreographed “Serenade for Strings”. Ballet Apetrei's own Kelly Apetrei also staged works for the Junior Company, as well as an original piece choreographed by the “Artists of Ballet Apetrei” Senior Company Dancers. These pieces were all performed as a prelude to the excerpts from La Bayadere, which were arranged by Ballet Apetrei's Artistic Director, Constantin Apetrei, a graduate of the Bolshoi Ballet.

Don’t miss the GRANDE ECHAPPE fundraiser and performance…

Our school is a place your child should love and look forward to coming to. It should be a fun place where your child learns A LOT!! We do teach with structure and discipline and a lot of love and care. Your child will learn many lessons in addition to dance including self discipline, work ethic, responsibility, self esteem and working with others. Thank you for sharing your child with us and trusting us with their dance education. We care about your and your child’s experience in our school. We do encourage you to either call us at 624-3622 or ask to have us call you with any questions or concerns. A LOT of FALSE information is shared in the lobby, please ask your instructor or call the Apetreis with any questions you may have. Tuition: August tuition should already have been paid.
