read // The Harry Potter series finale wasn’t the start of J.K Rowling’s retirement. Under the pseudonym “Robert Galbraith,” Rowling released a murder mystery novel, The Cuckoo’s Calling, earlier this summer. The novel revolves around a private detective who investigates the death of a famous supermodel, Lula Landry. After losing a leg, his long-time girlfriend and his home, Cormoran Strike avoids creditors calls by scraping by as a private investigator. During this low point, the deceased supermodel’s brother walks into Strike’s office seeking help. Known to her friends as “the Cuckoo,” Landry fell to her death. The police ruled it as a suicide, but Strike doesn’t buy it. Much like Rowling’s quick rise to fame after Harry Potter, the case launches Strike into a world of celebrities, famous designers and wannabe stars and is an exciting read.
