Note to members: there is only one meeting per month May through August and they are a real blast. They are the best of the year and totally well attended.

Connie’s Corner Dear BSSC Members,

Since this will be my last SnoJob article as your President, I wanted to thank you all for allowing me to be the leader of such an incredible club! I have sincerely appreciated your input, your attendance at meetings and events, and your overall support of my efforts. I truly believe that we have THE BEST ski and sports club in southern California, and perhaps in a wider sphere, and it is because of its members! But please remember, as we enter a new club “year” and with a new Board of Directors in May, that superiority and excellence is greatly due to the volunteerism and active participation of the club’s members...and that means each and every one of you! Let’s continue to perpetuate the outstanding reputation that IS the Balboa Ski & Sports Club! So to end my tenure, I’ll leave you with a quote from an unknown author..... “Volunteers are seldom paid; not because they are worthless, but because they are PRICELESS!” Thank you,

Connie Peacock

Joanne Willson Angell, long time BSSC member, died on Monday, April 11, at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, due to complications of knee replacement surgery. Joanne participated in our skiing events, tennis tournaments and social events for many years. She met her husband Greg at a BSSC Super Bowl Party. Joanne was a very special lady with a unique style, renowned for her legendary parties and fabulous presentations. She was very devoted to her family and had many close friends. Joanne will always be remembered for her “Joie de vivre.” The club offers Greg our heartfelt sympathy for this great loss. More photos on page six...

Another Terrific Bike Ride! Our enthusiastic group of” veteran” Balboa bike riders, joined by first time club rider Steve Wilson, met at Nancy’s for morning munchies and excited greetings. After donning helmets, Joe Stanczyk , Carolyn Hawkins, Lee Lewison. Suzanne Goldman and Steve navigated through the Marina, over the bridge, and then onto the bike path. Our steadfast photographer, Rich Tonti, periodically pedaled ahead of the group so he could catch us en route and get his usual great pictures. Nyla and Bob Kyser were smart enough to meet us on the other side of the bridge. Once on the beach path we enjoyed both the beach and the beautiful ocean. We had to contend with all of the Long Beach Grand Prix Race fans who were walking and bicycling to the race venue. At one juncture we had to ride on a hard packed sand detour around the grandstands. It wasn’t fun to return on it when the sand had just been freshly watered down… ugh!!! We took our rest stop at the edge of the Marina, looking out on the Queen Mary. Just delightful! On our return we stepped up the pace and made a fast dash back. Rick and Joanne Seebach and Norm Goldman joined us for a sumptuous lunch buffet at the Long Beach Yacht Club. Of course lunch was punctuated with plenty of conversation. What a wonderful day we all had! Submitted by Nancy Slusher, trip leader
