Are Exam Papers Kept Safe?

Ms. Anne Dadswell, a High School English teacher at Ruamrudee International School had been wondering why every students in her classes got a full score on the mid-term exam. Now, the truth has been revealed! Students caught stealing exam papers while classes were in session. The High School principle was not able to recognize who the culprits are after looking at the picture. However, after weeks of investigation, the principle came up with a conclusion that there were more than four students who stole the exam papers. It seemed like students had worked in teams of about six to seven people to steal the exam paper.

Last week, the principle organized an event in which every students are required to go to a ten minute interview with their advisors. There are currently a few students that are suspects in this event. One from Ms. Dadswell’s first block English class seemed to be caught in the picture, the second from the right. The student refused to be the culprit in the picture. She took blame on another student who sits beside her in class. The advisor then called on another student who is happening to be the culprit’s best friend. She told the advisor that the culprit had been asking her to help them steal the exam too but she refused. However, she did not tell the name of her friends who are involved.

! !

The Knowledge Bowl that was supposed to take place in the Godbout Hall during February 7th, 2014 has been spurned by the on-going investigation of this event and had been moved to May 6th, 2014. The principle had made a final decision that once these undisciplined students are caught, they will be expelled from Ruamrudee International School and will not receive any credits from their previous sessions. © 2014 RIS Today

Modern Tech helps improve RIS Community

Ruamrudee International School established a VIP card in which are given to every students and teachers who wish to park their vehicles in the school parking lot. Students and teachers are required to scan their cards before and after they enter the parking lot to prevent vehicle robbers. Five to ten vehicles from the parking lot had been announced missing during the last two weeks after the mid-term break. Guards were not able to find the convict since there were no security cameras around the parking lot. After using this new technology, the card scanning method, RIS was able to prevent vehicles from robbers. One student was caught trying to use a fake card to enter the parking lot claiming that one of the vehicle belongs to him. After the investigation, the guards announced that this person was actually not enrolling in RIS but pretended to be a student in here by dressing up like one. The guards were also able to talk to some of the dorm students at RIS. One said, “We’ve been seeing this person for almost a week! He had been walking around the parking lot a few times and trying to get in.” RIS was proud that the new technology helped prevent vehicle robbers. However, the school director hired more guards to take care of the front gate and the parking lot at night. Other international schools had had this problem too. Vehicle robbers tend to dress up as a student and blend in. As a result, RIS proudly presents the new technology to every international schools in Bangkok, Thailand. © 2014 RIS Today

OPINION Searching For Our Future

! ! ! !   Middle   school   is   like   a   rite   of   passage   to   maturity.   High   school   is   the   time   where   students   9ind   their   true   talents   and   abilities.   Ruamrudee   International   School   should   let   students   choose   courses   on   their   own   starting   from   9th   grade.   These   days,   freshmen   and   sophomores   are   still   required  to  take  courses  provided  by  the  counselors  and  the  advisors.  By   letting   students   have   less   freedom   on   courses   to   select,   they   won’t   be   able   to   discover   what   they   actually   like.   Students   should   start   to   know   what   their   dreams   are   during   freshmen   and   sophomore   year.   However,   some   students   are   not   able   to   9ind   what   they   truly   like   because   they   were   not   able   to   try   new   courses   yet.   For   example,   in   freshmen   year,   business   courses   are   not   one   of   the   choices.   As   a   result,   students   who   wishes   to   become  an  entrepreneur  would  not  know  if  they  want  to  take  this  path  or   not.       By   letting   students   have   freedom   of   course   selections   during   freshmen  year  would  make  them  able  to  search  for  the  right  subjects  that   9it  them  best  early  rather  than  knowing  what  9its  them  best  during  junior   year,   which   would   waste   more   time.   Middle   School   surely   prepared   students   well   for   high   school.   They   have   a   good   basic   of   history,   and   science   before   coming   to   High   School.   By   making   history   and   science   a   mandatory   course   selection   will   waste   time   for   students   who   are   not   interested  in  science  and  history  at  the  9irst  place.  Instead  of  taking  these   courses  that  will  not  bene9it  their  lives  in  the  future,  those  students  will  be   able   to   choose   the   courses   that   they   are   interested   in   which   will   make   them   have   more   time   to   improve   themselves.   Students   will   be   able   to   continue  to  follow  their  dreams  or  change  the  direction  of  their  decisions.       Students  should  not  be  wasting  time  on  subjects  that  they  do  not   intend   to   use   as   a   helping   tool   to   reach   their   dreams.   Some   sophomores   and  juniors  still  seemed  to  be  confused  about  their  future,  what  they  like   and   what   they   want   to   be.   Letting   students   have   freedom   in   course   selections  since  freshmen  year  can  solve  this  problem  and  lead  them  to  a   great  future.     © 2014 RIS Today

Surviving new courses you know 0% about 9th grade courses are similar to 8th grade courses. You will get to choose only electives. Core subjects will still be in your way. You will not be able to escape from history until 11th grade so deal with it. New courses can be electives or a new modern language. You don’t need to worry much about learning new things because everybody will start new with no knowledge at all. However, you should choose courses that you are similar with and at least one course that you know nothing at all and want to learn new things. By choosing the right courses, you will both enjoy it and earn straight A’s!

!

Surviving gossips all around you There can be some drama in Middle School, but trust me, High School is the land of the drama queens. You will not and will never be able to escape the gossips around you despite who you are. All that’s left for you to do is, ignore those gossips, and move on with your high school life. Those gossips will be in your way for about a week or a month. After that, it will soon vanish away.

!

Surviving loads of homework In Middle School, you may think that homework is a pain in the butt. Nevertheless, wait until you enter your freshmen year. Homework is just one out of a hundred problems you would face in High School. Those who manage their time well will not be affected by loads of homework at all. Tips for managing your time well is to be able to distinguish between works that are the most important, and works that are less important. Then finish up all the work that is due in the next few days immediately. If you were able to finish all the important homework, continue to track down the others so you won’t have to procrastinate one day before the due date.

!

Surviving 2 hours of pain infliction “AKA exams” When you think about exams, you think of long hours in a big jail room with monsters walking back and forth watching every single thing you do for two hours. Yet, it is not as bad as it seems. If you study well for the exam, you will be able to survive those two hours without stress. Exam week is not that big of a deal but it has a huge impact on your grades! Preparing for exams beforehand will make you survive through exam week easily and happy! So, study up! © 2014 RIS Today

U-15 “Beat-em-up” Badminton team won 1st place in BISAC!

January 25, 2014 is the day our badminton boys showed their athletic power to other international schools in Bangkok! U-15 badminton team consists of JJ, Mickey, Bill, Josh, Koushik, Art, Saumya,, Satyam, and Winter. Winter was not able to support the team during BISAC giving a reason that the protest was right in front of his house. Each one of them practiced from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. We were able to interview JJ, a 9th grade badminton player, first person from the left of this photo. The secret of how they became the ones who snatched first place away from the other international schools was uncovered!

JJ mentioned that each member of the team put all their efforts during the practice and also during the real game in BISAC. JJ said, “This team is the best team ever! They all have great sportsmanship which makes our team successful!” JJ also explained that when he was about to give up, his teammates helped him stood up and fight again. He said that his best teammate is Saumya, the second person from the right side. JJ explained that Saumya is his double partner and that he enjoyed hanging out with Saumya every time there is a practice after school. The last question that was asked is, if you could go back and change something during the tournament, what would it be? JJ answered confidently, “Everything was perfect and there is nothing to alter.”
