“People come where the people are, Jan Gehl The context of the project is represented by the island colocated between two sides of land of different natures - one is connected to the sacre due to the presence of the Plumbuita church and the other side which belongs to a minoritary community. The cross point between the two entities is materialised in a modest place of gather, a place for people that announce its presence through smoke and warmth - t h e fireplace.

The project consists of imagining of how could a „house of books“ be materialised to be proper answer to the twin house of the Union of Architects of Romania on the Jean Louis Calderon street, in Bucharest. The entrance of the existent house represents a foreroom that leads to the main space of the new house - the patio - imagined as a semi-public living room. The exterior represents an opaque shell of concrete that is bound to keep a silent image as it is standing respectfully right to the house-monument, but, the interior widely opens and vividly communicates with the core of the house of books.

The begining of the project consists in the reading of the given existent, an animal shelter in Sirnea village and converting it into a single family house. ‘Sura’ is compounded by spaces with different geometries and dimensions which communicate with the exterior only, and not one with eachother. Being gathered under the same roof, the idea of living consisted in the remaking the connection between these spaces. The tipologies found in the plan of the shelter have certain similarities with the ones in the romanian traditional houses with „veranda“. The longitudinal room connects the whole house and, in the same time, separates; it becomes the core piece in which the existence of all rooms is felt due to the openess-closure, transparency-opacity relations that stand as key element of redefining the re-orientation of the given.

Florescu brothers were members of ‘Fratia’ society. This will become the foundation on which all the secret patriotic societies from Principate will begin preparing and comencing the revolution from 1848 with Nicolae Balcescu as their leader. The story of this historic fragment starts with the ruins on Vanatori street, in Bucharest. In this once-being-house took place the secret gatherings with the sole purpose of debating on the plans of the revolution. Along with this, in the romanian movie „At the Crossroad of Big Storms“(‘La Rascrucea Marilor Furtuni’), work of director Mircea Moldovan, it is revealed only the interior of this house, and not the exterior. Comencing by taking this as a vital hint, the „new“ will have a clear focus on the memory of the place. Thus, the space enclosed by the ruins will belong to the exterior garden and the outer side of the house to the inside of the new house - the gallery.

Nucleus, diversity, density. These were the operands of the project’s concept. The answer to the urban insertion is the hybrid which consists a vital presence (the nucleus), encompasses a plethora of functions (the diversity), and, as a project vision, it has to suggest the mass (the density) which caracterizes the urban tissue of the XXI century Bucharest center.
