Lake Geneva Local History Series Instructors are all affiliated with Black Point Estate & Gardens

Badger High School Room 605 6:30-7:30PM $5.00 / class or $25.00 for the 7-Week Series Spend this winter getting better acquainted with the past. The Wisconsin Historical Society presents a seven week-long series focused on the local history of the Geneva Lake. This program will help participants get a better understanding of the rich and varied history of the region during the grand resort era (1880s-1920s.) Instructors are from the Society’s Black Point Estate and Gardens location. The series includes programs on Black Point Estate, the beer barons that had summer homes on Geneva Lake, some of the remarkable women that lived and vacationed here, as well as programs on the shore path, downtown Lake Geneva and the numerous camps around the lake. Classes can be taken separately or as an entire series.

Black Point Estate: A Preservation Success Story

January 18: 6:30-7:30PM Instructor: Dave Desimone Historic Preservation is difficult under the best of circumstances. During this presentation you will learn how Black Point was preserved despite numerous challenges including legal opposition. You will also learn what amazing architecture was lost around Geneva Lake and why historic preservation can be an asset to any community.

Beer Barons of Geneva Lake… and their Milwaukee Neighbors

January 25: 6:30-7:30PM Instructor: Michael Rehberg Introduce yourself to the six beer barons of Geneva Lake and the four major brewers from Milwaukee. Learn the difference between ale and lager beer…and the basics of brewing beer in the 19th century in this illustrated presentation. Learn also how the brewers responded to Prohibition.

Remarkable Women of Geneva Lake

February 1: 6:30-7:30PM Instructor: Jill Westberg We often hear about the men on the lake and how they made fortunes.

But what were the women doing? As it turns out, they were not just sipping iced tea on their verandas. Meet some of the remarkable women who helped shape the history, not only of this area, but of this country.

February 15: 6:30-7:30PM Instructor: Jill Westberg Eighteen camps have graced the shores of Geneva Lake providing a venue for all ages, all income levels and many cultures. Listen to the unique stories of why they were started, who they served and what they offered the campers. Learn how these camps enhanced the entire lake area.

Summer Living at Black Point Estate

February 22: 6:30-7:30PM Instructor: Emily Larson What was it like to live on a large Geneva Lake Estate during the gilded age? This presentation gives a brief overview of summer life focusing on the Seipp family of Black Point. The Seipps were a Chicago family who built their estate in 1888.

Shore Path Stories Like You’ve Never Heard Them Before

March 1: 6:30-7:30PM Instructor: Jill Westberg Through photos and stories, hike the lake shore path and learn about early resorts, camping sites and colorful characters. What was it like to rent a tent for a week at the YMCA Camp or stroll the magnificent veranda at the Pishcotaqua Hotel? Where on the empty shoreline could you take your family on a picnic? Explore the summer life of the working class as well as the wealthy on Geneva Lake.

TARGET TONE: Looking to ghten up and strengthen your muscles?

This is the class. We start with a gentle stretch to warm the muscles and move into a muscle condi oning program using Pilates, ballet, yoga, as well as light free weights, body bands, and your own body resistance. This six week program changes every two weeks as your body becomes stronger and more toned. All you need is a pair of free weights between 2 and 10 pounds, an exercise mat or beach towel, a bo le of water and comfortable a re. An 8” or 10” playground ball is recommended. A stability ball is op onal.

STRONG WALK: Join in the fun with this in-home walking program.

The walk is designed for all ages and fitness levels. The in-home walking program uses five basic steps to increase your endurance, coupled with weight toning intervals to increase the metabolism and tone your muscles. A 10 minute ab rou ne rounds out the class.

So put on comfy clothes, fill a bo le for water, bring a mat or beach towel, and a pair of hand weights of 2-8 pounds and join the fun!

Waiver of Liability and Hold Harmless Agreement 1. In consideration for receiving permission to participate in Badger Community Education, I hereby release, waive, discharge and covenant not to sue the Lake Geneva-Genoa City Union High School District, its officers, agents, servants, or employees (hereinafter referred to as releasees) from any and all liability, claims, demands, actions and causes of action whatsoever arising out of or related to any loss, damage, or injury, including death, that may be sustained by me, or any of the property belonging to me, whether caused by the negligence of the releasees, or otherwise, while participating in such activity, or while in, on or upon the premises where the activity is being conducted.

2. I am fully aware of the risks involved and hazards connected with using the fitness center, including but not limited to muscle injury, heat exhaustion, cardiovascular stress, and all other conditions related to use of cardiovascular and weight training equipment and I hereby elect to voluntarily participate in said activity with full knowledge that said activity may be hazardous to me and my property. I voluntarily assume full responsibility for any risks of loss, property damage or personal injury, including death, that may be sustained by me, or any loss or damage to property owned by me, as a result of being engaged in such an activity, whether caused by the negligence of releasees or otherwise.

3. I further hereby agree to indemnify and hold harmless the releasees from any loss, liability, damage or costs, including court costs and attorney fees, that they may incur due to my participation in said activity, whether caused by negligence of releasees or otherwise.

4. It is my express intent that this Waiver of Liability and Hold Harmless Agreement shall bind the members of my family and spouse, if I am alive, and my heirs, assigns and personal representative, if I am deceased, and shall be deemed as a release, waiver, discharge and covenant not to sue the above-named releasees. I hereby further agree that this Waiver of Liability and Hold Harmless Agreement shall be construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Wisconsin.

5. In signing this release, I acknowledge and represent that I have read the foregoing Waiver of Liability and Hold Harmless Agreement, understand it and sign it voluntarily as my own free act and deed; no oral representations, statements, or inducements, apart from the foregoing written agreement, have been made; I am at least eighteen (18) years of age and fully competent; and I execute this release for full, adequate and complete consideration fully intending to be bound by same.

In this class you will learn about where essential oils come from and how essential oils can be used to support your physical and emotional health, naturally. You will make a holiday body scrub and “Dashing through the Pines” room spray that you can give to someone on your list, or keep for yourself!

You will also receive instructions for creating other great gifts with essential oils.

Registration will close on Dec. 12th.

Saturday, December 10, 2016, 10AM-12 Noon Badger High School Commons $35.00* Children accompanied by adult will make handmade Christmas cards with their handprint.

The use of paint, construction paper, and googly eyes will make these cards fun and extra special to give away or hold on to for a keepsake. Cost includes all materials! *materials for one parent-child project are included in the admission price. Additional materials will be available for purchase at $20 per child.

Back by popular demand! Help ease the pressure of the holidays by cu ng your holiday baking me while adding an evening of fun to the season. Mrs. Giovingo & Ms. Yager will have baking sta ons set-up in the Badger Culinary Arts classroom. Par cipants will work at baking sta ons to bake one kind of cookies to be split with the rest of the group.

Cookies to frost will be pre-made by members of the ProStart Badger Catering. Fros ng and decora ons will be available to enhance these beau ful and delicious cookies. Each par cipant will leave with 6 dozen, freshly-baked cookies and bars. You may want to bring your own containers to transport your cookies home.
