As we cast behind us what might be the most boring Hurricane in history, most of us dream of taking a vacation. While our hearts went out to the Bahamas, in our area all we saw was hurry up and wait. Businesses where closed for days to a week as the hurricane stalled and started again. While many almost drank themselves to death after coming off an extended Labor Day weekend, giving many an entire week of vacation, others, mostly business owners cried as they watched the much-needed Labor Day Weekend dollars disappear. As I am writing my column the storm shutters are being rolled back and business is opening as usual. But many of us are left a bittersweet reminder that it just might be time for a trip where there aren’t any hurricanes. If you are one of those people, here are some great get-away ideas before Biketoberfest and Halloween festivities are here. My first suggestion is in my home state of Kentucky. Why not visit Bardstown, Kentucky for the Kentucky Bourbon Festival (Sept 18-22). They have over 40 Bourbons and whiskeys to sample. Then shoot over to my home city of Louisville (just 40 miles away) for The Bourbon and Beyond Music Festival (Sept 2022,) where you will catch acts like Foo Fighters, John Fogerty, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Robert Plant, Zac Brown Band, ZZ Top and so much more!

If you love Grapes and wine, then a jaunt over to Grapefest in Texas (Sept 12-15) has been a popular event since 1986. With Grape stomping, wine tasting and music. As well as in California where September is wine season. There will be events everywhere but if you choose Sonoma head over to the Sonoma Harvest Music Festival (Sept 14-15 & 21-22). Oktoberfest actually kicks off at the end of September and some noted places to spend it include Cincinnati and Pittsburg where you can find all the German beer and bratwurst you desire. Octoberfest Zinzinnati (Sept 20-22), Octoberfest Philly (Oct 18, 19) are full of food, entertainment, and mimic an authentic Munich festival. Well if the storm left you feeling as if you invested in the future of Home Depot and Lowes with no vacation in sight, then no worries as we have you covered. There are great events and festivities to attend all listed inside our event schedule. I will see you at the Bacon and Brew Fest in Deltona and just keep telling yourselves “there’s no place like home, there’s no place like home!”
