JUST FOR FUN

ELTON JOHN

“Kiss me, I’m Irish,” is one of the first buttons I ever got back in the early 80’s. I wore it proudly pinned on my fringe purse every March, more so as St. Patrick’s Day neared. The bevy of red heads with green eyes, sprinkled with “angel kisses” as my granddaughter calls them, but better known as freckles, are a daily reassurance of the Irish in my bloodline. At least on my mother’s side of the family. Even if you aren’t Irish who doesn’t love a mug of green ale, a heartwarming bowl of corned beef and cabbage and especially for my attention seeking Irish clan, the fun of belting out a few Irish toasts memorized just for the occasion. You will find many a shamrock wearing, rosy-cheeked Irish folk to enjoy the fun with this month. ing feeling. One that I guess can only be described as freedom. I write about it like it is in my past, but the truth is like many champions of great bike weeks, life steals me away from the open road far to often. My memories are of many great adventures on the iron horse, but even more important than the trip itself, the people I have met along the way. As you enjoy this year’s Daytona Bike Week with all its cheesesteaks, cold beer, rockin’ entertainment and beautiful women, remember the reason we all come to rallies is to be together with like-minded people and rally around all the things we mutually appreciate. The most important, the uncaged open-road and all our brethren along the way. Spread the love and have a glorious bike week. The small businesses of Daytona thank you!
