Shocking revelation: PR ASA replacing worn brake pads with used ones The Democratic Alliance (DA) will write to both PRASA and the Railway Safety Regulator (RSR) to request that they make public plans on how the regulator intends to address the lack of replacement brake blocks at its maintenance facilities. The DA has seen a letter that was sent to PRASA on 22 January 2020, in which PRASA is ordered to urgently address this crisis after an unannounced RSR inspection found that the regulator had ”no new brake blocks available or in stock for the replacement of worn brake blocks on their trains”. In the letter, PRASA is directed to

provide RSR with proof that a “permanent solution [is developed] to provide an adequate amount of new replacement brake blocks at each rolling stock maintenance facilities” by no later than Tuesday, 4 February 2020. The RSR inspection comes after the DA raised concerns that train maintenance technicians and mechanics have to scratch amongst bins of used brake pads to find barely usable spares to replace severely warn ones. Pictures were sent to the DA showing the badly worn brake spares and the bins which technicians desperately had to salvage parts from in

order to keep trains running. The practice of salvaging used spare parts to replace worn parts places the lives of the millions of South African rail commuters in unimaginable amounts danger and will inevitably result in accidents, and worse fatalities, if not addressed immediately. We are therefore of the view that it is in the public’s interest to know exactly how and when PRASA will restock its maintenance facilities with new replacement brake blocks. The DA will closely monitor and follow up on PRASA’s progress given the instruction

by RSR and welcome this step in an effort to keep our commuters safe.

Head on collusion, one killed A male driver in his early thirties, driving a hatchback light motor vehicle was killed after a crash with an articulate truck on R550 road near Suikerbosrand nature reserve just outside Zonkizizwe. Preliminary information on scene states that, it was a head on collusion between

the two vehicles as they were driving in two opposite directions prior the accident. City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) rescue team from Zonkizizwe fire station received a call at 11H35 Sunday morning and swiftly responded to the address. On arrival, a

wrecked articulate truck was on the side of the road and the hatchback light motor vehicle was on the opposite side of the road with pieces of metals lying all over the area. The truck driver escaped with minimal injuries while the body of the hatchback vehicle driver, was still trapped be-

hind the steering wheel. Paramedics on scene initiated medical treatment but unfortunately, he was declared dead on scene. Rescue team had to use Jaws of Life to recover the deceased driver from the wreckage. The reason of the crash is still a subject of investigations by the SAP officers.

Die rol van die uitgebreide gesin End Time Q and A The mark of the beast will it be before or after the rapture? in die nuwe generasie uitgeloop.

GEHOORSENTRUM

The Bible is clear that the mark of the beast will be before the rapture . The Mark of the Beast is implemented 3 and a half years before the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ and the rapture. Rev 7:9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; Rev 7:13 And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they? Rev 7:14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. End Time Q and A What role will South Africa play in the end times? South Africa is not directly mentioned in Bible Prophecy! But the group we are part of is mentioned in the Bible and SA Troops may be part of this war against Israel. 70 % of the bricks nations is currently in battle in Syria, BRICS stands for Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa with newest members Iran, Turkey and Lebanon. The War = Gog and Magog Ezek 38 and 39. We just have to find out if SA will be forced to send troops to Syria to assist Russia (Gog) and Iran (Magog) in the War against Israel soon. End Time Q and A What happens in the Millennium Reign? The Bible speaks of 1000 years after Jesus Christ returned at His 2nd coming taken care of the rapture and led the Battle of Armageddon. After this the earth is left destroyed and the satan and his demons is bound on Earth for a 1000 years. Jesus and His angel army will return to heaven where all raptured children of God awaits Him, Their in heaven they reign as kings and queens until the 1000 years is over. All from heaven then descends with the Golden City to earth to take care of the white throne judgement. Before this all the dead on earth shall arise, ready for the great white throne judgement to take place. End Time Q and A What should we tell others about the great tribulation? The great tribulation is the period that follows after the Jewish Messiah turns to be the antichrist, walks into the newly build 3rd Jewish temple and stop the daily sacrifices saying he is God himself. The

Jews then stand against him and he banish them from the temple and end the 7 year peace agreement, the antichrist then take control of the temple and make it the head office of the 666 mark of the beast. He then implements the mark of the beast. The time period for the great tribulation is 3 and a half years or 42 Months or 1290 days. In this time period so much have to happen. 1. 144 000 Jews living in old Judea/new Palestine have to flee for their lives. 2. The antichrist start making all his followers with the mark of the beast in their right hand and start to force Jews and Christians to take the 666 mark in their foreheads. This lasts for 1 year or 12 months or 365 days. 3. Then God seals all Christians left over with the seal of God and the 144 000 that fled to The wilderness. 4. Then the 5th Trumpet sounds, being a Super Volcano that erupts to mark the Beginning of the wrath of God against the bearers of the mark of the beast . This lasts 2 and a half years as the 7 plaques of Gods wrath is poured out over the earth. 5. the 144 000 Jews and the Christians marked with the seal of God goes into Angel protection, during the wrath of God, but still on the earth. 6. Then after the 6th plaque, Jesus arrives in His 2nd coming, the rapture takes place and then finally the Battle of Armageddon. What do we tell People to do during the great tribulation? NOT TO take the mark of the beast. God promised a great revival and pouring out of the Holy Spirit just before these events. With all Christians newly filled and baptized with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will lead them from the antichrist and his armies. End Time Q and A Where will the two witnesses come from? The Bible does not say where the two witnesses are from. They will die & they will die in the streets of Jerusalem and the scriptures are very clear about that in Revelation 11. After the 3rd Jewish temple is build, these two witnesses will stand at the entrance and prophecy! The Bible says that they will be killed and they will be left lying in the streets for 3 and a half days in order to dishonor and make fun of them to vent the anger the antichrist and the entire world against them.

Rolling blackouts - any tangible change Instead of making the South African electricity supply sector more competitive, Government is seeking to extend its monopoly over electricity generation. South Africa doesn’t need another statecontrolled entity for electricity generation when there is a myriad of Independent Power Producers (IPPs) who are ready and willing to generate electricity in order to diversify South Africa’s energy mix, making it more reliable and cheaper. Furthermore, the Minister’s comments that Government is planning on revising Schedule 2 of the Electricity Regulation Act to enable mines to generate electricity

for own use is an admission by the ANC that Eskom’s monopolistic stranglehold on the energy sector is simply not feasible. Schedule 2 be amended to allow for selfgeneration and municipal generation. While Minister Mantashe’s comments indicate a step in the right direction it will by no means address the utility’s debt spiral, massive skills deficit, and deteriorated infrastructure. What South Africa needs is a competitive electricity generation sector to ensure energy security. As a starting point, Parliament should pass the DA’s Independent Electricity Management Operator

private members Bill, which will allow all power producers to compete on a level playing field. The Minister should also take the necessary steps to open the next bid window for Independent Power Producers as a matter of urgency. The Minister must not make empty commitments just to reassure the people in this time of rolling blackouts that are crippling our economy.

What is Short Term Insurance? Handling Claims An insurance policy outlines certain risks that will be covered by the insurer should they one day take place. For instance, if a thief breaks into your house and steals your electrical appliances, you will be able to file a claim for these stolen goods. In most cases, you will be required to pay the excess on these items. This is essentially a small predetermined amount of money toward the replacement of these appliances. The balance will then be settled by your insurer. It is important that you ensure your cover remains relevant as time passes. The balance of a claim will not be settled by the insurer if your valuables and assets are under-insured. Finding an Insurance Provider There are over 100 short term insurers available to South African consumers. When looking for an insurance provider, it is recommended that you get as many quotations as possible. In this regard it is best to make use of an insurance broker who will be able to present you with multiple options from a range of insurers. The criteria for deciding which insurance provider to settle on should be based on a comparison between the different insurance providers. Compare the monthly or annual premiums you’ll be required to pay, evaluate which insurer offers a better excess fee on claims that you may lodge and find out if all your established risks are covered by the policy in question. Conclusion Insurance is an age-old system of risk management that has taken on new meaning in our consumer orientated society. Risks go hand in hand with the accumulation of assets, property and valuables. The most effective way of avoiding unforeseen financial crises is to hand these risks over to an insurer. Overall, short term insurance is a valuable method of ensuring the security of your wealth and possessions without long-term commitment and large premiums.

NIGEL/HEIDELBERG REKORD - ONLINE EDITION www.rekord.org.za

Healthy Lifestyle February is Healthy Lifestyle Awareness month, this month is dedicated to highlight the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle by making small behavioural changes. The Healthy Lifestyle Awareness Day, which is Friday, February 21 could not have come at a better time. Many people are well in the second month of the New Year after making New Year’s resolutions, which are commonly to achieve healthy living. Ekurhuleni’s health practitioner and manager for non-communicable diseases, Mrs Angie Ndhambi encourages residents to eat healthier and exercise regularly. “The key to embarking on a healthy lifestyle is to start small and not to break your bank balance. Residents should ensure they eat a balanced diet and join the City’s free aerobics sessions that are held every weekend across the City” said Ndhambi. “While regular exercise and

keeping low sugar levels in one’s diet is highly recommended, communities are also advised to follow the diabetic portion plate to ensure a balanced diet” added Ndhambi. The City of Ekurhuleni’s Fit For Free Aerobics programme entails threehour sessions that are held every Saturday at different open spaces and stadia across the City and are free for the public. Visit the www.ekurhuleni.go.za for the aerobic session schedules. During the sessions, Ekurhuleni health practitioners are on site offering free health screening services, which include Pap smear, HIV testing, blood pressure (BP), blood glucose (BG), weight (WT), and cholesterol screening. The diabetic portion plate that is recommended for a balanced diet includes: Half the plate should consist of fruits and vegetables. One quarter of the plate should be ones’ choice of protein. The other quarter should be filled with any starch.

Disability not a choice Disability has never been a choice, but at Sunfield Home Fortuna we choose to change our obstacles into opportunities. Sunf ield Home Fortuna is a home for mentally and physically disabled situated on the border of Gauteng and Mpumalanga, approximately 30 km from Heidelberg. The HOME has been in operation since 1991 and because we do not receive funding from the government, we depend heavily on the goodwill of companies and our local communities. We currently care for 75 disabled residents on a full-time basis – our residents vary from “strong” residents to very frail. We have 45 residents placed here by sosial development, most of whom do not have any relatives, making us responsible for all their basic as well as medical needs. To our disabled residents this is their ‘’place in the sun” where they feel at home – a place where they are accepted and

treated with dignity and respect, feeling safe and loved. Sunfield is currently going through a very difficult time and we are in desperate need of financial assistance be it in the form of goods, services or cash sponsorships. We are like a big household and our needs vary from groceries, toiletries, transport and maintenance expenses to medical expenses, stimulation and trying to fulfill their social needs. Please if you are in a position to assist us in improving the quality of life of our disabled residents in any way It will be much appreciated. Small Businesses: How to Survive & Thrive Why do approximately 70% - 80% of small businesses fail within five years? Why are certain entrepreneurs more successful than others? Recent research by the University of the Western Cape on the rate of failure of small businesses makes for interesting reading and provides insights that we all really need to take on board, particularly in these hard economic times. SMMEs, their importance and their failure rates. Globally 60 to 70% of jobs are found in SMMEs (Small, Medium and MicroEnterprises) but in South Africa this figure is only just over 28% despite more than 95% of businesses in South Africa being SMMEs. South Africa has a higher failure rate of SMMEs than elsewhere in the world (70% - 80% of our small businesses fail within 5 years). In previously disadvantaged communities only 1% of businesses progress from employing less than 5 people to having staff of 10 or more. 6 Factors that can make or break an SMME business The research indicates that in terms of success factors, 40% can be attributed to the entrepreneur. The characteristics of this person are crucial and they need to show: Persistence, being proactive and being a self-starter. That they do not react to events but are continually planning (good planning is an important success indicator), innovating, having an ability to learn and apply this learning and having a culture of achievement. The factors contributing to failure are ones we are aware of: Lack of skills, government and large corporates snap up almost all of South Africa’s limited skills. Diff iculty in accessing f inance, lending institutions require a track record before providing funding to businesses. Poor accounting records and limited information systems. Late payment by state institutions and large corporates. Entrepreneurs - what can you do? Have a look at the 6 factors listed above. Maximise the positives, and do something about the problem areas. Remember, your accountant is there to help you succeed so don’t be shy to ask for advice. What can government do? Clearly the country is missing a sizeable opportunity to grow the economy and to reduce our 27% unemployment rate. One way to get this going is through mentoring and training. Government programs are having a limited impact and there is space for business to also play its part. Why not interview some SMME owners and determine if they have the characteristics as shown above? Those that have the attributes can be successfully mentored to get good accounting records and systems, skills can be addressed as well as access to finance. Directors: Be Careful, You Will Be Held More Accountable In 2020. The past few years have seen scandals emerging in both the private and public sectors. Steinhoff, State Capture, Eskom, the Guptas and Bosasa, to name a few, have revealed how endemic corruption has become in South Africa. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is now beginning to charge those who have been involved in these scandals. This has been greeted with relief by the public, who have become increasingly frustrated that

perpetrators have appeared to have escaped from accountability for their actions. Clearly, the directors and senior managers of these affected entities are being scrutinised and face potential prosecution. Your obligations and your risks The Companies Act places onerous obligations on directors and senior managers who are to perform their duties: Having the necessary skills and experience to make informed, independent decisions. Keeping themselves up to date on the plans and activities of the company. Having sufficient data to make carefully considered and impartial recommendations to all issues raised at directors’ meetings. With no conflicts of interest. If a director has a conflict or potential conflict, then that director(s) shall make full disclosure of the conflict to fellow board members. Failure to adhere to these standards opens directors to the possibility of being liable for any damages or losses incurred. In certain instances they face the potential to be held criminally liable and directors who transgress by failing to meet their obligations can also be disbarred as directors either permanently or on a short-term basis. Additionally stakeholders, such as unions, may undertake class action against directors personally. Other danger areas. Now that all directors are under increasing scrutiny, you also need to bear in mind issues such as your company causing environmental damage, trading in insolvent circumstances (for example SAA directors face potential litigation here), failing to ensure your business is protected against hackers, poor accounting policies and being party to the company suffering reputational damage which leads to a collapse in the share price. As a director, remember you are in the public’s and the NPA’s sights. Be extra careful that you execute your duties in line with the dictates of the Companies Act. If in doubt, use your accountant as a sounding board and advisor. Lying About Qualifications – Prison Time for Employees on the Horizon. An issue that has been around for a while has been employees misrepresenting their qualifications to their employer. This has adverse consequences for the employer as the employee often proves incapable of doing the required job – this leads to wasted time in disciplinary hearings, dismissal and then a new recruiting cycle begins. That’s in addition to all the damage that an under-qualified employee can do the employer’s business before his or her duplicity is exposed. This has been worsened by fake institutions which offer people fraudulent qualifications. The statutory amendment and its reach. In a move to address the situation, a statutory amendment makes employees who mislead employers and fraudulent academic institutions liable for up to five years’ imprisonment and/or a fine. The amending Act has been signed into law but will only come into effect on a date or dates still to be determined. The changes when in effect will provide employees and fake learning institutions with a strong incentive to be honest in the future. So broad is the legislation that anyone can report to SAQA (The South African Qualif ications Authority) any employee or any institution peddling false qualifications.

Moet ek regtig oefen?

nie afkyk nie, eerder so 5 meter voor jou. Trek jou maag in.

Weeklikse totale doelwit: 60 – 75 minute. Week 2: Sit 5 minute by elke dag by, sodat dit ‘n totaal van 20 minute per dag is, vir 5 dae ‘n week. Weeklikse totale doelwit: 75 – 100 minute. Week 3: Voeg ‘n verdere 5 minute by jou daaglikse roetine, wat dit 25 minute per dag in totaal maak, vir 5 dae per week. Weeklikse totale doelwit:100 – 125 minute. Week 4: Sit weereens 5 minute by elke dag se staptyd. Dan is dit nou 30 minute se stap per dag, 5 dae ‘n week. Weeklikse totale doelwit:125 – 125 minute.
