Marievale saga Marievale-inwoners is steeds verbied om na hul huise terug te keer ten spyte van ‘n hofbevel deur die hooggeregshof in Johannesburg waarin hulle toegelaat moet word om in die onbenutte basis te woon. In November verlede jaar het soldate onwettig ongeveer 600 mense uit die Marievale-basis uitgesit. Sedertdien het die SANW versuim om te voldoen aan ‘n dringende interdik wat deur regter Daniel Berger in Desember aan die inwoners verleen is. Volgens Menseregte is daar duisende gevalle wat handel oor die probleem dat jy nie mense sonder ‘n hofbevel kan uitsit nie.
Volgens wetgewing misbruik die SuidAfrikaanse weermag hul mag op hierdie manier, asook die stelsel om die tydperk te verleng. Sommige inwoners vertel dat hul tydens die uitsette deur die SA Nasionale Weermag in Marievale mishandel en aangerand is, terwyl sommige in die hospitaal opgeneem is. Die SANW het intussen aangedring dat sy soldate tydens die uitsettings volgens die wet opgetree het, aangesien die eiendom aan hulle behoort. Marievale is militêre eiendom wat sedert 2002 onbewoon was, waarna mense in die huise wat vir weer-magoffisiere geoormerk is, verhuis het. Gemeenskapsleier
Christopher Koitsioe beweer die huise is deur die regering aan inwoners toegeken. Die SANW het daarop aangedring dat die eiendom bestuur word volgens die voorskrifte van alle militêre fasiliteite. Die geskil het in 2015 tot die hof gekom wat uitsettings stopgesit het, net vir die weermag om nou weer terug te keer. Inwoners maak huidig staat op hand-outs en kospakkette om te oorleef. Van die inwoners vertel dat hul nêrens anders het om te gaan nie. Sommige van diegene wat uitgesit is, is in hegtenis geneem en aangekla van intimidasie. Diegene wat uitgesit is, het die Menseregtekommissie versoek om in te gryp.

Although these might be ancient old statements they have truth for every generation and should still bring across the importance and urgency to look at what we are proclaiming with our behavior in public or private. With Easter still fresh in our minds we were again reminded about what Jesus stood for and what He was willing to die for. He Who had no sin, willingly took all human sin on Him and died the death we deserved to die and through that spared us eternal agony and destruction. His death did not make us perfect but forgave us our sin and provided access to Heaven. Hence the importance of the statements and the truth in it. What are we standing for and what determines the foundation of our principals, character and decision making? What determines the “line” we are not prepared to cross, the deal we are not prepared to make or the social activities we are not prepared to be part of? It reminds me of the long overdue road repairs eventually done at the four way stop at the bottom of Wessels street in Jordaan Park. Not only is it not the best quality of work but the lines are not painted after the repairs with the result that the stop signs are ignored creating an accident waiting to happen. In the same way, we all need to have a “drawn line” in our lives as guidance of what is or is not acceptable. In the same way traffic rules, road signs and lines on the road surface are there to protect lives so the “line” we draw as an indication for what is or what is not acceptable is needed for our own protection. Dragon fruits well as carotene and protein. Calcium is present for strong bones and teeth, iron and phosphorus for healthy blood and tissue formation. The benefits are realized in a number of ways, from a strengthened immune system and faster healing of bruises and wounds to fewer respiratory problems. Who knew there was a plant with a flower like an explosion of flame, which produces a beautiful but short-lived fruit with the appearance of a brilliant pink rosebud? This is the pitya, dragon fruit, indigenous to Central America but is also grown and exported from several Southeast Asian countries, such as Thailand and Vietnam. Obtained from several cactus species, its succulent stem provides the uniquely delicious fruit with moisture in the arid climates where it grows. Some dragon fruits have red or yellow skin (which looks a little like a soft pineapple with spikes) and white or red flesh, but always the beginnings of overlaid leaves, similar to an artichoke, and an abundance of small, black, edible seeds. The flavor is mildly sweet, like a blend of kiwifruit and pear, and it has a crunchy texture. While it may seem a little strange at first, it’s easy to get to the fruit. The article did not have enough information for a parent to make an informed decision. Certain Cancers can be prevented by the HPV vaccination. What is HPV – Human Papillomavirus? HPV is a group of viruses that are extremely common worldwide. In females HPV infection can cause cancers of the anus, cervix, vagina, vulva and the mouth/throat area. In males HPV infection can cause cancers of the anus, penis and the mouth/throat area. 100 Types of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) are identified. 40 HPV Types are ano-genital (grows on and around the anus and genitals) 13 of the 40 ano-genital types are oncogenic (cancer-causing, also known as high risk type). The 5 most oncogenic types are 16; 18; 31; 33 and 45. Types 16 and 18 cause at least 70% of cervical cancers. Both vaccines currently available in SA prevent types 16 and 18, with good cross-protection of types 31 and 33 and moderate protection of type 45. Cervical cancer kills one woman every 2 minutes globally. In South Africa, each year 7735 woman develop cervical cancer
and 4248 die from cervical cancer. The ideal time to prevent HPV related cancers is before exposure. It is passed through skin-to-skin sexual contact; therefor the best time to vaccinate is as young as possible. Both males and females can be vaccinated. In South Africa the HPV vaccine is offered in the public sector schools from the 4th-grade, since 2014. The vaccines can also be administered in the private sector at your doctor or pharmacy clinic, from as young as 9 years of age. The safety of the vaccination has been verified by numerous international health associations, particularly by the World Health Organisation (WHO) which recommends that all girls aged 9 – 13 years are vaccinated. The vaccine has been extensively tested and has been in use in many other countries, including, Australia, UK, USA (since 2004) and low resource countries such as Rwanda, Bhutan, Uganda, Vietnam, Peru. WHO recommends that all girls aged 9 – 13 receive either of the two HPV vaccines intramuscularly, twice, 6 months apart. Over the age of 13 or if HIV positive, three doses are recommended for both vaccines..
We as the DA is shocked to notice that the CEO of the Gauteng Film Commission (GFC), Andile Mbeki, is still drawing a salary despite being placed on suspension. This was revealed to the DA by the MEC of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Faith Mazibuko, in response to a questions tabled in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature. According to the MEC, Mbeki was suspended for the following reasons: Insubordination and ill-treatment of staff members. Illegal recording of MEC conversation during a meeting and distribution of the very conversation on social media without seeking permission from the MEC despite the fact that the CEO has been charged and
he has not appeared before a Disciplinary Committee. The MEC has informed the DA, that they will seek an amicable resolution to part ways. Since being placed on suspension on 23 February 2017, Mbeki has received a salary totaling R1,882,094.00 including benefits. Currently the department is paying two CEOs, thus diverting money away from other important functions of the department. This indicates poor political management and leadership on the part of the MEC, as she has failed to resolve this matter. The DA demands that this be resolved as a matter of urgency to avoid any further wasteful expenditure.

Lawlessness of Gauteng drivers a major concern in Easter road deaths The Easter weekend road accident and arrest statistics paints a picture of motorists who are showing disdain for traffic laws. During the past Easter weekend over 250 drunk drivers were arrested according to the Department of Community Safety. They also stated that 70% of Gauteng road accidents involved pedestrians, highlighted by the Tshwane Metro Police’s arrest of at least 40 pedestrians. According to the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) the main transgressions f ined over the long weekend were speeding, driving unlicensed vehicles and for motorists driving without licenses. These staggering number of arrests and fines together with the death and injury toll from road accidents, highlights the fact that the Gauteng Provincial Government’s
current road safety strategy is clearly not working. Road safety cannot rely on marketing exercises and policing alone. Although the policing actions must be commended, law enforcement agencies f ight a losing battle in the absence of crucial road safety strategy elements. Road safety starts with proper safety education in schools, followed by proper driver training, appropriate driver license testing system, effective law enforcement and swift prosecution and driver rehabilitation. It is well documented that all these elements do not function as they should within a coherent road safety strategy for Gauteng. Unless the Gauteng government does not take the implementation of a proper road safety strategy seriously, our roads will never be safe.

This means that when the demerit system does come into effect, drivers risk losing one point each time they pass a gantry with an e-toll sign without paying. Furthermore, if a driver passes 12 gantries with an e-toll sign, they would lose 12 points in one day and could have their license suspended for a year. Readers has been against e-tolls from the onset as it is adding enormous pressure to our residents, who are already struggling to make ends meet. The ANC-led government on several occasions rejected the objections to the etoll system. Had the Gauteng government listened to any objections cried out, drivers in the province who do not have the means to pay
for e-tolls would not be at risk of losing their license. The Premier David Makhura acknowledged that e-tolls were not working and that it was impacting negatively on the lives of our residents. The SMS warning from Sanral had barely started doing the rounds when Gauteng premier David Makhura shot down e-tolls. “The new dawn [of a government by President Cyril Ramaphosa] must also bring a solution to the protracted and unresolved problem of e-tolls.” The new text message from Sanral sent in the past month reads: “You have overdue e-toll fees and you are now in a debtcollection process. Call SANRAL on 0800726725.” All indications are that the number given is that of Sanral, with callers being directed to relevant options. The Opposition to Urban Tolling Alliance (Outa) conf irmed that the warning was genuine and if readers receive a summons from Sanral, they will respond to Sanral lawyers on their behalf and help them to fight this unlawful bill. More than three million motorists had outstanding e-toll debt the latest warning was an attempt by Sanral to bully individuals into paying. Last year Sanral wrote off over R3 billion in unrecovered e-toll bills. E-tolls had added cost of living for many motorists and public transport users in Gauteng.

Ex tending operating hours for 29 clinics Haar ouers se trots Not everyone has a privilege to take a day off from work to visit a clinic. In broadening access to healthcare services to residents, 29 clinics of the City of Ekurhuleni have extended operating hours from the standard hours. The provision of extended service hours is part of the city’s strategy to reduce the burden of long waiting times at clinics and to improve access to primary health care. Five more clinics are earmarked in future to be added to those that operate for 24 hours and 12 hours a day and construction of additional 10 state-of-the-art healthcare facilities is already in the planning phase to increase accessibility.
There currently are 94 primary health care facilities in Ekurhuleni. The services offered at the 24-hour and 12hour facilities include, but not limited to, child healthcare services, immunisation, maternal health, management of acute and chronic illnesses, mental health service as well as HIV counselling and testing. These extended hour facilities also render allied health services such as; Rehabilitation Services and Dental Health and Maternity Services where there is a Midwife Obstetric Unit on site. Hokkietoer 2018 Hokkiespelers van Hoërskool John Vorster het ‘n opwindende Maartvakan-sie gehad by die Adventure Peaks in Pretoria vanaf 28 tot 31 Maart tydens hul hokkietoer. Bedags het die hokkie bokkies tot 15:00 afrigting op die Astro by Curro Hazeldean ontvang en na-middag bymekaar gekom vir spanbou. Daar was drie hindernisbane, een vir elke dag. ‘n Blinddoek hindernis baan om luister-en kommunikasie vermoë te oefen, ‘n survivor baan waar groepwerk van kardinale belang is en ook ‘n gewone hindernisbaan wat fokus op vaardighede op die hokkieveld bv hand-oog kordinasie en so meer. Die spelers het dit baie geniet en het ook baie geleer. Hulle sien uit na ‘n lekker seisoen.
