A WHOLE NEW SOUND An inside scoop into the youngest younges Beat-maker and Bass-Rapper on the ‘Scene’

DS iss the combined coombineed musical talents ta of 18 year old S.Weezy, better known as Weezyyear old D.JD. Their music m is UK based Drum ‘N’ Bass. They come from the S,S, and 177 year streeets of of Alum Rock, Rock, Birmingham, Birmiing streets where they’ve had tough times growing up, with of ‘Haters’ ‘HHaters’ envying their thei recognized talents. D.JD began his ‘crazy’ beat making a lot of skills att the the age of 13 on a small sm Synth keyboard and a cheap music editing software skills Weezy S began at the age of 13 as well, he discovered he had the ability to at home. Weezy raap well weell when when free styling with a group of friends. They’ve formed a unity since and rap are taking takinng on a whole new level le of music. By working hard they’ve made it far, and are have shown shown that even even the most m unexpected things can come from the most unexhave pectedd people. people. DSS aim to show s that true music doesn’t have an ethnic background pected and by by working working hard hard and seeking s and your own goals, anything can be achieved. So who are you, what is “DS”? DD.JD .JD doesn’t doesnn’t speak speak much; much he lets his productions do the talking, so I’ll be talking on behalf be ehalf of of him as well. weell. So, S we was once a fairytale, an urban legend, but this is it, we’re w e’rre a revelation revelation to the public, this is where reality begins we’re DS of Just Thug Productions! Pr roductiions! You can call cal me Weezy S. I’m the vocal half of DS, spitting my flow oonn the thhe hot hoot beats beats D.JD D.JD cooks co up for me; it’s as simple as that. We’re Asians making m movements, ovemennts, we’re we’ree Bengals Beng breaking through to the music scene big time, gonna sshow how the thhe world we Bengals Ben aint just curry men.

When did you yo start this partnership? I was on a self tour at the time, a year ago, trying to get a break, perfor performing in small places in different ends and that. Started off in my background village in Bangladesh, went off to Mumbai iin India, came back to UK and performed at my school. DD.JD just happened to be there, he was impressed and he ooffered me some crazy ass beats and that’s what made us such good mates and partners.

What sort of mu music are you giving to your fans? We’ve W e’vve created a whole whhole new n scene; it’s a fusion of east-west, its Drum ‘n’ Bass, DubStep St tep too a wholee new w level. lev We’ve exploded since the first underground mix-tape. Our Our music music reaches reachees ears eaarss from Mumbai to Birmingham, Scunthorpe to Amsterdam. Got Got gigs giggs all all round; roundd; it’s itt’s a whole new sound.

Who is your target audience? TThe he music music is is not not for for the faint hearted, it’s music for the night-life. It’s for the ppeople eoplee who who don’t don’t sleep, s it’s poison to your ears.

How well do you think you’re doing with the music? Got a cult following now, we’ve created something out of nothing. This is an underground movement, it’s time for change, and we’ve brought it. The club scene’s gone crazy for us. We was brought up by the DnB club scene, and now we’re giving something back.

In what way are you different to other artists and groups out there? Beats are different, nobody produces them like D.JD. Style is different, you can’t define us, you can’t label the music, it’s alien and it’s out of this world.

How did you get where you are? I did bare gigs in and around local schools and local events and then D.JD spotted me and since then it’s been madness, we sent a CD off to a few record companies and managed to get a deal. Parties, clubbing, girls, money and all that came with it. I know I speak for both of us when I say the people made us happen. Big up to all those fans, all the ladies and all the mans.

Where do your biggest fans come from? Handsworth. It’s proper live there. People get our music down there, they feel it, they practically live off it. If it weren’t for the Handsworth massive, we wouldn’t be here, they made us, put us into the international scene. And a massive big up to the BBC Asian Network for giving us radio airplay. Biggest big up goes out to all those haters out there,e, you people are my biggest fans.

Do you have any role models? odels? I have a lot of role models, but the Nasha Nassha Experience Experriennce was huge to me ever since I was a kid. They were different in their own,, they they showed showed that even Asians could get into thee game. D.JD aint got any role models ls though, thhoughh, he is a role model for all those procrazy man. ducers out there, his beats are crazy

How did you feel when you first got to know D.JD? You know, when I first saw him m was just weird, it was like he stood out so much and looked like mee as as well, I was like yo!. It was like seeing my reflection in a distorted rteed world.

What’s next then, what else do you plan on giving to us, will we get to see other members join your group? Just thug productions is big you know, they making maaking movements, bare artists and all that in it.t. But DS is just me and D.JD, for now at least, we’ll see whatt happens. What’s Whatt’ss coming coming to you will surprise you, so prepare re to expect the unexpected.

One final question, why is it D.JD never speak? We’d have to kill you if we told you [Laughs]. Bottom line is, you’ll never know, no-onee will, it’s not important you get me, what’s important is he’s the best producer ever BRAP!
