MALAYSIA AND THE EVENTS OF EXTRAORDINARIES PEOLPLE In this globalization era, every country is fighting each other in every field and opportunity, including Malaysia, one of risen country worldwide. With high density of population Malaysian gain 30 million people recently. Among this 30 million people there is some minority with appear with extra-ordinary talent and ability. This minority take 0.01% (umt collaboration japan, 2015, Malaysian index of genius people).

ITS MIGHT LOOK SMALL IN NUMBER BUT IF WE SUM OUT THIS 0.01% ITS EQUAL TO 300K PEOPLE OF MALAYSIA POPULATION WHOA ARE EXTRAORDINARY. THIS GROUP OF PEOPLE IS SUPPRESSING TO FOLLOW OUR AVERAGE SYLLABUS OF LIFESTYLE. In this proposal is we are collecting in group and study their capability by result enhancing by amplified to further potential. By research data bank data, we could manifest normal human to upgrade to superhuman. EPIGENETICS AND THE ENVIRONMENT: HOW LIFESTYLE CAN INFLUENCE EPIGENETIC CHANGE FROM ONE GENERATION TO THE NEXT The field of epigenetics is quickly growing and with it the understanding that both the environment and individual lifestyle can also directly interact with the genome to influence epigenetic change. These changes may be reflected at various stages throughout a person’s life and even in later generations. For example, human epidemiological studies have provided evidence that prenatal and early postnatal environmental factors influence the adult risk of developing various chronic diseases and behavioral disorders. Studies have shown that children born during the period of the Dutch famine from 1944-1945 have increased rates of coronary heart disease and obesity after maternal exposure to famine during early pregnancy compared to those not exposed to famine. Less DNA methylation of the insulin-like growth factor II (IGF2) gene, a well-characterized epigenetic locus was found to be associated with this exposure. Likewise, adults that were prenatally exposed to famine conditions have also been reported to have significantly higher incidence of schizophrenia.

CLIENT’S MISSION AND VISION ARCHITECTURE x ENGINEERING x SOCIAL CHANGE

CHAN ZUCKERBERG INITIATIVE INVEST $3 BILLION TO CURE DISEASE. SEPT23, 2016 Pediatrician Dr. Priscilla Chan and her husband Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg are investing billions in making the world healthier. In an emotional announcement in San Francisco on Wednesday, Chan said the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative will be investing $3 billion over 10 years to build tools to advance health care. The first investment is a new $600 million research center called Biohub, in partnership with scientists and researchers from Stanford University; the University of California, Berkeley; and the University of California, San Francisco. The Biohub will focus on building new tools to understand and treat disease. With her family in the audience, Chan described how the initiative’s mission is to prevent or manage all diseases in our children’s lifetime -- or by the end of the century. “WE WANT TO BUILD A FUTURE IN WHICH OUR CHILDREN CAN LIVE LONG AND REWARDING LIVES,” she said. The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative focuses global efforts on four areas: personalized learning, curing disease, connecting people and building strong communities. The initiative is a limited liability company, not a nonprofit. When the couple launched the initiative in December 2015 -- not long after the birth of their daughter, Max -- Zuckerberg said he would give away 99% of his Facebook (FB, Tech30) shares through the organization over their lifetimes. The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative has since invested in a variety of programs, including the Indian education technology company BYJU and African software development training program Andela. Local efforts include individual donations to Bay Area teachers through school district partnerships. Following his wife’s announcement, Zuckerberg detailed a roadmap for furthering research and funding. He said the goal is to bring scientists and engineers together to build tools and more technology, while growing a movement to fund science. Although the effort will take time, Zuckerberg urged “we need to be patient.” Initiative representatives used stage time to discuss some of Biohub’s project ideas, such as building a cell atlas that documents all the locations and properties of cell types in humans, incorporating software engineering into databases and developing engineered human stem cells. “EVERYTHING WE DEVELOP, EVERY TOOL, WILL BE AVAILABLE TO ALL SCIENTISTS EVERYWHERE,” said Dr. Cori Bargmann, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative’s incoming president of science. “CURE, PREVENT OR MANAGE ALL DISEASE”

MARKET FEASIBILITY EXAMPLE SKILLS ON HIGH DEMAND COMPUTER SUPPORT: Computer software and equipment is becoming increasingly more useful and complex, creating a steady and ever-growing need for computer support specialists, often called technical support specialists. With moderate on the job training or vocational education, computer support specialists can earn a median pay of $46,260 per year. CONSTRUCTION: The Bureau of Labor Statistics expects to see rapid growth in the construction sector, an industry that’s poised to add 1.8 million jobs by 2020. In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statistics identifies construction as one of the top industries for wage and salary employment growth, at a rate of 2.9%. Construction workers include electricians, elevator installers, building inspectors, and plumbers, to name a few, and median salaries can be as high as $70,000. MANUFACTURING: Students in manufacturing trade schools are in such high demand, they’re often hired even before they graduate. CNN reports that manufacturers are “begging” for more workers trained in advanced manufacturing skills, specifically with training in computer design, machine shop technology, and machine shop math. New hires with higher-level manufacturing skills can earn starting salaries of about $40,000 per year, and often earn up to $65,000 within two years. For some workers, that means earning more with vocational education than they might have earned with a four-year degree, and enjoying a higher demand to boot. AUTO SERVICING: Employment of auto service technicians is poised to experience healthy growth, especially for those who have completed formal vocational training programs. The opportunities can be great, and the industry should add about 124,800 new jobs by 2020. HEALTH CARE AND SOCIAL ASSISTANCE: Workers who are able to interact with the public in health care or social assistance situations will find the most demand for jobs. The Bureau of Labor Statistics identified this industry as the one expected to gain the most jobs this decade. All told, there should be 5.6 million new jobs for health care and social assistance, making it a high demand industry now and in the future. Jobs that fall under this category include work done in health offices, home health services, hospitals, residential care facilities, and day care services. source : online college October 11th, 2012 written by Staff Writers

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

PSYCHOACTIVE SPACES

Institute of extraordinary youngster is a research and development facilities with inclusive of training school that develop and study the ability and potential to extraordinary youngsters in Malaysia. The institute were design to embody space amplified potential in youngster. The space gives constant and manipulating variable that give challenge in mind developing experience to the youngsters. The idea of this facilities is amplified human potential and give proper syllabus to the extraordinary youngster. By this development, we have data on developing talent and ability power. This data will be main ingredients to human potential development studies. The space break into separation during activities event either play, studies or event sleep, but at the same time compliment each other and working together.

Psychoactive come from word psychology and active. Psychoactive space is the relation on space that resulting of active brain activity psychologically. Psychoactive space exists by responsive of perceptual space for a person experiences. Perceptual space is a person subjective experience that define configuration of symbols and object that exist within a certain boundary that isolate from one space to another. (john p.eberhard and patoine 2004) perceptual space related in two aspects, one is physical aspect that perceived directly with the senses inside the person body and the other one is metaphorical spaces that allow permit of imagination extension of mind. Psychoactive space come out with variables that affect nervous system which is smells, noise, light, heat, spatial orientation, perception of movement and tactile sensation.

COGNITIVE SKILLS: THE 8 CORE COGNITIVE CAPACITIES SUSTAINED ATTENTION ability to look at, listen to and think about classroom tasks over a period of time. All teaching and learning depends on it. Without attention, new learning simply does not happen, and issues of understanding and memory are of no relevance.

MULTIPLE SIMULTANEOUS ATTENTION ability to multitask with success. It is the ability to move attention and effort back and forth between two or more activities when engaged in them at the same time. It makes demands on sustained attention, response inhibition and speed of information processing, and also requires planning and strategy.

RESPONSE INHIBITION ability to inhibit one’s own response to distractions. Imagine two children paying close attention to a lesson, when there is a sudden noise in the hallway. The child who maintains attention has better response inhibition.

WORKING MEMORY ability to remember instructions or keep information in the mind long enough to perform tasks. We use simple working memory when we look at a phone number and keep it in mind while we dial it. Working memory is the sketch pad of the mind where we put things to think about and manipulate.

SPEED OF INFORMATION PROCESSING refers to how quickly a learner can process incoming information. Some scientists consider speed of information processing a central aspect of IQ. Many children with attention problems often are unable to keep up with the lesson plan presented by the teacher.

CATEGORY FORMATION ability to organize information, concepts and skills into categories, and forms the cognitive basis for higher-level abilities like applying, analyzing, and evaluating those concepts and skills. Categories are the basis of language and organization of the world.

COGNITIVE FLEXIBILITY AND CONTROL ability to change what you are thinking about, how you are thinking about it and even what you think about it – in other words, the ability to change your mind. Cognitive flexibility is required in multiple ways throughout the school day.

PATTERN RECOGNITION ability of the human brain to not only find patterns, but figure out in a logical way what those patterns suggest about what will happen next. In a broad sense, pattern recognition and inductive thinking form the basis for all scientific inquiry.

THE CHILDREN’S MUSEUM OF THE ARTS IN NEW YORK (CMA) WORKac’s new installations for the Children’s Museum of the Arts take children’s creativity seriously, providing versatile spaces for kids — from studios and galleries to reading rooms and a clay bar. The existing structure of the building and the pedagogical approach shaped the space’s program, which is basically divided in two levels: the studio spaces and the entry lobby, on the ground floor of the former loading dock, and the gallery space in the center. The architectural design is focused on a distribution from the entrance to the large central gallery space, passing through a series of smaller spaces that surround the gallery and organize circulation between the various programs and spaces. While the studio spaces themselves are like modernist “white boxes” in order to focus attention on art-making, the circulation space is colour-coded following the entire colour spectrum to allow a better and more playful orientation for children. At the lower level, younger kids and their parents can go from the lobby through a “stroller parking garage” to the Wee Arts Studio, specifically dedicated to arts programs for children from 1 to 5 years with painting, drawing, drumming and more. Above this stroller-room is the ball pond, which gives children the chance for some body exercise and is visible from the street.

THE PANOPTICITY: To induce in the inmate a state of conscious and permanent visibility that assures the automatic functioning of power. So to arrange things that the surveillance is permanent in its effects, even if it is discontinuous in its action; that the perfection of power should tend to render its actual exercise unnecessary; that this architectural apparatus should be a machine for creating and sustaining a power relation independent of the person who exercises it; in short, that the inmates should be caught up in a power situation of which they are themselves the bearers. This idea was introduce by Micheal Foucault on idea of Panopticon : mechanism arranges spatial unities that make it possible to see constantly & to recognise immediate.

THE PANOPTICITY IN TODAY APPLICATION TOWARD WOLRD AND PEOPLE Nowadays the panopticon theory used almost every but hidden to the eye of public. The theory of panopticon are not use literally but instead used as principle. This is called all seeing eye where all human activity are being monitor trough digitally. THEORIES [X] | ARCHITECTURE OF THE ENVIRONMENT AND TERRITORY

GEODESIC DOME APPLICATION AS DESIGN METHOD

TERRITORY: ENERGY AND EQUITY In 1960, Buckminster Fuller and Shoji Sadao come out with visionary proposal to enclose midtown Manhattan with a two-milewide glass hemisphere called as Manhattan Dome. Fuller and Sadao’s photomontage of the project shows the Dome as an artificial bubble enclosing the world’s most constructed environment, Manhattan—a representation that continues to capture people’s imagination today. This project explanations took a decidedly more pragmatic tone, discussing construction details and energy savings. They conceived of the Dome as a super-envelope within which the city’s many processes could be managed and balanced. Then, as now, systems-based thinkers understood objects, conditions, and problems not in isolation but in terms of interconnections and interdependencies. Yet their approach employed systems thinking narrowly by focusing on energy usage and resource consumption within the Dome, without really taking into account social and cultural exchange processes. Not all the system’s inputs and outputs are traced. Questions like “Who’s in the Dome and who’s out?” and “Who benefits?” and “Who loses?” were not answered. Synergetics is the system of holistic thinking which R. Buckminster Fuller introduced and began to formulate. Synergetics is multi-faceted: it involves geometric modeling, exploring interrelationships in the facts of experience and the process of thinking. Montreal Biosphere designed by Buckminster Fuller for Synergetics endeavors to identify and understand the methods that Nature actually uses in coordinating Universe (both physically and the 1967 Montreal Expo metaphysically). Synergetics provides a method and a philosophy for problem-solving and design and therefore has applications in all areas of human endeavor. Like other Fuller concepts, Synergetics is interested in the production of the machine as a whole and not the individual parts. He wanted to maximize the output of the Spaceship Earth for the benefit of humanity. He explained this largely through geometry and geometric structures. Synergetics is wide ranging study utilizing expertise in various sciences and arts such as thermodynamics, chemistry, psychology, biochemistry, economics, philosophy and theology. Looking at Fuller’s dome structures, smaller geometric shapes are used as building blocks for the main structure. For example, triangles within BUCKMINSTER FULLER the greater shape of his geodesic domes. sources : umsl.edu sources : nextcity

DESIGN CONCEPT THE NATURE OF SPINAL CORD AS DESIGN PLANNING spi·nal cord noun Spinal cord is the cylindrical bundle of nerve fibers and associated tissue that is enclosed in the spine and connects nearly all parts of the body to the brain, with which it forms the central nervous system. By the nature of this spinal cord, the design planning and spacing are derived from its functionality. To space planning, the spinal cord were became main interior path finding that lead to every space side by side either right hand side space or left hand side space. An induction motor is simply an Electric transformer whose magnetic circuit is separated by an air gape in to tow relatively movable portion, one carrying the primary and the other the secondary winding. Alternating current supplied to the primary winding from an Electric power system induces an opposite current in the secondary coil, when the later is short circuited or closed through an external impedance.Relative motion motion between between the primary and secondary structure is produced by electromagnetic forces corresponding to the power thus transferred across the air gape by induction. The essential feature which distinguishes the induction machines from the other electrical motors is that the secondary current is solely by induction, as in a transformer; instead of being supplied by a DC exciter or other external power source as in synchronous and d-c machines. Sayed Haidari (2015)

ARCHITECTURE AS SUSTAINABLE MACHINE Toward designing building that suit to sustainable, architecture itself should become a machine to the earth. In this project, there are 2 types of area that cover sustainability which is water and land. At land area special faรงade was conceptually sustainable design but controlling heat gain to the building by build-in fan faรงade and air filtration. At water area, the building will recycle water from the lake and use inside the build to water base research and cooling effect. The output of this use water will filtrate and release to the lake. BIOMIMICRY OF BUILDING FUNCTION REPLACATE HUMAN LUNG STRUCTURE AS MEDIUM OF BUIDING COOLING SYSTEM The idea of this facade study is derived from the human lung structure. As this project responsive to complex institutional, the nature of the building must integrated solution that solve the complexity. From normal human lung from the trachea air supply for breathing are tranfer to bronchi and than secondary bronchi. At the end of brochi the are bronchioles which inhirit large amount of alveoli. The blood capillary envelop the alveoli to make the Oxigen and Carbon Dioxide will pass trough make the lung function Same as this building, the facade integrated with module of cubic form that function as shading to the building make the cooling effect as double facade. Every module has induction motor to reduce temperature of the building as the building width facing morning sun.

SPACE : DREAMSCAPE LABORATORY SPACE x [SPECIAL LAB 2] SUBCONCIOUS MIND READING, MAPPING AND PRINTING

DREAM EXTRACTION Human mind exist in 2 obvious states which is conscious mind and sub-conscious mind. Sub-conscious mind can be define as auto-pilot mind state which content and stores all of your previous life experiences, your beliefs, your memories, you skills, all situations you’ve been through and all images you’ve ever seen. The subconscious mind is responsible for the automatically triggered feelings and emotions that you suddenly experience upon facing a new situation. If you were about to give a presentation then all the fear and anxiety feelings you might experience are in fact launched and controlled by your subconscious mind. The conscious mind is, on the other hand, responsible for logic, calculations and all actions that are performed while you are conscious. The subconscious mind also controls other functions in your body like breathing and heart beats. By programming the subconscious mind with new programs you can fix many problems in your personality. Just make sure that your autopilot is capable of running your system without ruining your life or causing you any problems. Usually the subconscious mind can be program by hypnosis. The idea is what if the subconscious mind can be printed and study? By hypnosis in any mind digitalize using subjects who were hooked up to an EEG machine, then fell asleep with an fMRI machine. Once in a dream state, the neural patterns the subject creates when he or she visualizes certain types of objects in his mind can be correlated with an actual object. A “learning” algorithm can then be used to tie the data from your brain to an internet search engine that “matches” images and videos that closely resemble what you’re currently dreaming about.

Towards this test, the researcher are capable to have complete data to test human body capacity and potential. For the architectural spaces that are dealing with the human senses, psychoactive space variables are a point of interest to calibrate the methodology of finding the optimum value of human capacity. Of course every human may come out with different result but the similarities of which these research may inclined, these data can determine which value are suitable for upgrading the human potential. This finding will give a huge jump start to the future to determine every condition and data value towards human result in a kind of responses and reaction.

RORSCHACH IMAGE The Rorschach technique, sometimes known as the Rorschach test or the inkblot test, is a projective personality assessment based on the test taker’s reactions to a series of 10 inkblot pictures. The Rorschach technique is used to elicit information about the structure and dynamics of an individual’s personality functioning. The test provides information about a person’s thought processes, perceptions, motivations, and attitude toward his or her environment, and it can detect internal and external pressures and conflicts as well as illogical or psychotic thought patterns. The Rorschach technique can also be used for specific diagnostic purposes. Some scoring methods for the Rorschach elicit information on symptoms related to depression, schizophrenia , and anxiety disorders. Also, the test can be used to screen for coping deficits related to developmental problems in children and adolescents. sources :http://www.minddisorders. com/Py-Z/Rorschach-technique.html

POWER SUPPLY The supply intake cabble to this development is drawn from the main substation of th area which located near the site. Then, its connected to the building own substation in order to stepped down the current 11kV and distributed trought the building The power supply for the building starts from the substation that supply it through a switch room located beside it. then to the Main Distribution Board (MDB). Later, its tranfer to the various Subsidiary Board (SDB) located at the ekectrical risers on ground level. Then from the SDB, power will run vertically in the riser to Distribution Board (DB) at each floors before finally reaching all electrical fitting. Electrical Risers are located at service core / area in each zone for better services and easy maintainance. The switch are also zoned according to the type of zones of block for easy maintainance and emergency Other than that, there is Generator Set prepares and located at service area as backup power supply in case of any emergency.

PHOTOVOLTAIC (SOLAR ELECTRIC) SYSTEMS WITH BATTERY BACKUP

source : archdaily.com - CITE DU DESIGN BY LIN ARCHITECTS

93

Solar energy systems installed today are “grid-interactive,” meaning that they work in tandem with the utility grid to supply energy to your home. If you want your solar energy system to work when there is no utility grid power available, you need batteries.* Batteries allow you to store energy and use it when grid connections fail, like after storms or when there is line trouble or blackouts. Because large electric loads like air conditioning and electric water heating would require a massive battery bank and lots of solar panels, what is more common is carving out necessary appliances and lighting to run on battery power into what’s called a critical load subpanel. All of the electric circuits on this panel are backed up by battery power and solar panels. Grid-interactive photovoltaic systems just have solar panels and inverters tied into your existing electrical equipment. The systems are simple and cost effective. The complexity increases drastically when battery backup is introduced. Below is an example configuration for an AC coupled system, a configuration that has become more popular recently due to it’s efficiency during grid operation and ability to provide seamless power during grid failures. In addition to the solar panels and grid-interactive inverters on a grid-tied system, the required components are: Batteries — and we’re not talking about a few AA cells. Think hundreds or thousands of pounds. Critical Load Subpanel — to separate the electric circuits that will be backed up. Battery Backup Inverter/Charger — converts power from the batteries during grid failures and recharges batteries from solar and grid power. It also acts as a transfer switch, switching seamlessly between grid, [optional] generator, and battery power as needed. Anessa Santos (2015)

GENSET ROOM The space requirements for standby and emergency power systems do not rank at the top of an architect’s design list. Consequently, service personnel can find themselves in tight quarters when these power systems are jammed into areas that meet only minimum safety requirements and don’t take service- ability into account. Building service equipment must have an advocate early in the design process. It is far easier and less expensive to plan for adequate space in the design phase than to compromise on unit size and retrofit equipment to fit in cramped areas.

SERVICE : VERTICAL TRANSPORT x LIFT ESCALATOR ELEVATOR VERTICAL TRANSPORTATION Vertical transportation is a phrase used to describe the various means of travelling between floors in a building. All buildings with more than one storey of course have at least one set of stairs and the provision of stairs is a very important consideration when designing buildings in order to ensure all the occupants of the building can escape safely in the event of a fire. Considered systems for lifts or elevators are key to the safety, productivity and experience of building users

REGENERATIVE CONVERTER REGENERATIVE CONVERTER (STANDARD WHEN VVVF INVERTER CONTROL IS CHOSEN) The regenerative converter has the effect of reducing energy consumption by transmitting the power generated when the escalator runs downward with a certain passenger load or more to other facilities in the building.

95

LED LIGHTING INTRODUCTION OF LED LIGHTING LEDs, which have long service life and excellent energy efficiency, have been introduced in under-handrail lighting, skirt guard lighting, comb light and step demarcation lighting. The LED lighting consumes approximately 60% less energy than the conventional fluorescent lighting.

OPERATION TYP SLOW OPERATIO The escalator run stand-by mode. W detect a passeng gradually acceler speed. As the es when there are aboard, people escalator can rec direction.

STATIONARY IN STAND-BY The escalator remains stationary in stand-by mode. When the sensors detect a passenger, the escalator accelerates to the rated speed. This operation saves the energy consumed by the escalator significantly.

VVVF INVERTER CONTROL VARIABLE -VOLTAGE VARIABLE- FREQUENCY (VVVF) INVERTER CONTROL Escalators with automatic operation improve the energy efficiency by running slowly or halting in stand-by mode. When passenger sensors detect no passengers for a predetermined period of time, the escalator goes into the stand-by mode.

MEL EYE (MONITORING AND CONTROL SYSTEM) SUPERVISORY SYSTEM MEL EYE ENCHANCE ELEVATOR AND ESCALATOR OPERATION MANAGEMENT In recent years, the need for a monitoring system utilizing network technology has increased. In large-scale international airports, for example, interfacing with the building and facility management control system has proved an essential oracle. In order to meet this requirement, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation has developed a sophisticated monitoring system - MelEye which utilizes Web-based technology. MelEye closely observes the operational status of elevators and escalators that handle continually changing passenger traffic. This allows Building Managers to rapidly respond to changing traffic patterns, thus optimizing the performance of elevators and escalators and maximizing the added value of the whole building. The application of the latest network technology has also greatly increased the number of controllable elevators and escalators, which minimizes the cost spent on facilities such as supervisory rooms and monitors. MelEye is our solution to futuristic building traffic monitoring systems

LIFT MOTOR

MRL Lifts (Gearless High Speed) lifts are traction elevators that feature a compact motor drive mounted on the car itself. They don’t require to build a separate elevator machine room. MRL lifts allow you architectural flexibility, but they also provide fast, powerful and energy-efficient transportation. Though traction lifts were originally limited to high-rises, the innovative MRL design has allowed engineers to adapt traction elevators for low-rise buildings and multi-story homes. The MRL elevator design saves a significant amount of energy (approximately 70-80% over a traditional traction elevator). The power feeders are also significantly reduced, due to the MRL’s more efficient design and the elevator’s counterbalance. This efficiency provides superior performance and faster speeds. Advantages of MRL elevators: Permanent Magnet Gearless Machine for smooth, quiet motion 1 m/s to 1.6m/s speed range (180 starts per hour) 10 to 16 passenger load range (680 – 1088kg) Smooth ride, due to the first-class roller shoe suspension Versatile landing and car door configurations Earthquake-friendly jigged guiding Small control cabinet on the upper level Totally integrated system for greater reliability Time and money-saving benefits: long lifespan, low operating cost, easy installation and service Cost-efficient elevator application No machine room The MRL elevator design saves a significant amount of energy (approximately 70-80% over a traditional traction elevator). SERVICE : AIR CONDITIONING x MECHANICAL VENTILATION COOLING SYSTEM UTILISING FACADE AS MECAHNICAL VENTILATION DEVICES

VARIABLE REFRIGERANT FLOW (VRF) VRFs are typically installed with an Air conditioner inverter which adds a DC inverter to the compressor in order to support variable motor speed and thus variable refrigerant flow rather than simply perform on/off operation. By operating at varying speeds, VRF units work only at the needed rate allowing for substantial energy savings at partial-load conditions. Heat recovery VRF technology allows individual indoor units to heat or cool as required, while the compressor load benefits from the internal heat recovery. Energy savings of up to 55% are predicted over comparable unitary equipment. This also results in greater control of the building’s interior temperature by the building’s occupants. VRFs come in two system formats, two pipe and three pipe systems. In a heat pump 2 pipe system all of the zones must either be all in cooling or all in heating. Heat Recovery (HR) systems have the ability to simultaneously heat certain zones while cooling others; this is usually done through a three pipe design, with the exception of Mitsubishi which is able to do this with a 2 pipe system using a BC controller to the individual indoor evaporator zones. In this case the heat extracted from zones requiring cooling is put to use in the zones requiring heating. This is made possible because the heating unit is functioning as a condenser, providing sub-cooled liquid back into the line that is being used for cooling. While the heat recovery system has a greater initial cost, it allows for better zoned thermal control of a building and overall greater efficiencies.

VORTEX PRINCIPLE The vortex tube, also known as the Ranque-Hilsch vortex tube, is a mechanical device that separates a compressed gas into hot and cold streams. “As an introduction to the investigation for the causality, origin and maintenance of the gravitational sink-vortex, consider first the possibility, as we have learned about vortices in hydrodynamics, that a similar pattern, once it’s formed in the Aether, has no reason to dissipate into randomness again, unless its dynamic structure is destroyed by another dynamic structure.” Steven Rado (1994)

SITE SETTING Historically, the study area is the original grid of George Town consisting of its commercial and business district. It is located in the middle of the core area as designated according to the World Heritage Site. The area bustles with different kinds of activity. Its northern part consist of offices, banks and education buildings whitle on the southern end are shops owned by Chinese, Indian and Malay traders. There are food outlets, kopitiam, themed cafe, textile and clothing stores, jewellery stores, old printing offices, lodging, spice stores etc. China street and King street were dominated by Chinese merchants and is known for its temples and kongsi. This area is visited by many daily. On the Market street and Penang street ,it was once dominated by the immigrants from Southern Indians who used to work at the old port. Their settlement fluorished with tradings. Now it is nicknamed Little India and rightfully so with the busy, colourful street lined with sarees, textile, prayer offerings and many more. The culture of the two main ethnicity, Chinese and Indian, thrived in these enclaves and is now recognized as invaluable intangible cultures. In the fast developing city of George Town the area needs to compete with the extension of the city where the population and businesses have mostly relocated. In order to protect, promote and preserve at the same time, a guideline unique to the area must be produced. The proposal will aim to reevaluate what the culture, local community, businesses and spaces can provide in order to be relevant, thriving and resilient. The intervention will be minimal to preserve but impactful enough to create a much needed urban density. If it is successful, the direct impact will be on the flourishing tourism sector. The combination of both cultural and business presence will be a tool to analyse and construct future programmes that will ensure a longer lifeline for both the business and cultural district.

TRESPASSING - /’trespes, ‘tres, pas/ - verb enter the owner’s land or property without permission.“there is no excuse for trespassing on railroad property”synonyms: intrude on, encroach on, enter without permission, invade“there is no excuse for trespassing on railroad property” As urban studies on human behaviour at penang heritage city, people tend to trespassing other people space inside the city, and owner of the space like it!. In here, every small space, back lane street and district is potential area to build a bussiness . trespassing is a way outsider interact with the city. by using this behaviour even sound provokative, but its give great design solution to expose artist to public. short cut road become valueable way finding there are 2 type of trespass which in literally trespass and visual trespass. literally trespass is were entering space as total inside the space. and the other hand visual trespass is visually getting information by looking such as looking crown inside glass box. by using this concept, the building finishing approch are built to be potentially transparent help people to visually trespass. as art building in idea to expose their work to the public. the space are design to potentially penetrable by public by rules and regulation and providing excess including shortcut pathway YES, I’M IN..!!

Navratri Festival is a Hindu religious festival similar to the famous Chinese Nine Emperor Gods celebration. The festival takes place during the first nine days of the seventh month in the Hindu calendar. During these nine days, devotees pray to the Hindu goddesses, Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati in hopes of power, wealth and knowledge. A chariot procession also takes place on the final day of the festival. The first three days are devoted to Durga, the goddess of destruction, who devotees pray to for strength and power. On the first night, she is believed to be cleansing the Earth for the celebration and teenagers are often encouraged to return home early lest they get in her way. Alters honouring Durga are erected in Hindu temples, with her idol often seen as riding a lion. The fourth to sixth day is dedicated to Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity and the altar in temples are replaced to honour her. Images and idols depicting Lakshmi are always seen of her sitting or standing on a lotus.During the last three days, devotees pray to the goddess of knowledge, Saraswati for wisdom and guidance and children pray to her for their education. The goddess is often portrayed as holding a book, prayer beads and playing the Veena, an Indian string instrument http://www.visitpenang.gov.my/

The St George’s Church is the oldest Anglican church in Malaysia, and is the main place of worship for the British colonial administrators in Penang. Located along Farquhar Street, it is one of the loveliest British colonial heritage buildings. The desire to erect a church for the Protestant inhabitants of Penang had been present long before that and indeed plans were submitted in 1810, 1813 and 1814. It was not until the extension of the East India Company’s Charter for a further 20 years from 1814 that plans were finally acted upon. Rev Hutchings arrived in August 1814 and held services in the Court House opposite in Prince St, a now defunct road which ran between Farquhar and Light streets. http://www.penang-traveltips.com/

Logan Heritage Building was known after James Richardson Logan, the lawyer commemorated with the Logan Memorial. One of the most charming - yet often overlooked feature of the Logan Heritage Building is its central arch defining a granite-paved porte-cochère, which in the old days led to a courtyard for carriages. h t t p : / / w w w. p e n a n g traveltips.com/

REVISITING GEORGETOWN - GENERATING IDEAL MODELS FOR PROMOTING TOURISM FOOTPRINT SITE SETTING

“ IN THE FAST DEVELOPING CITY OF GEORGE TOWN THE AREA NEEDS TO COMPETE WITH THE EXTENSION OF THE CITY WHERE THE POPULATION AND BUSINESSES HAVE MOSTLY RELOCATED. IN ORDER TO PROTECT, PROMOTE AND PRESERVE AT THE SAME TIME, A GUIDELINE UNIQUE TO THE AREA MUST BE PRODUCED. “

173

Historically, the study area is the original grid of George Town consisting of its commercial and business district.

GENTRIFICATION The restoration of run-down urban areas by the middle class (resulting in the displacement of low-income residents)

174

GEORGETOWN, PENANG

Has massive and strong character, culture and its great economic fine grain community for visitor and local but without proper management it’s become deteriorate the daily life of the city. After Georgetown being awarded world heritage city by UNESCO in 2008, Local citizen are affected by the high prices, high land value, high living cost, tourist focused service, - with non-urban ambition - and the seasonal demographic variable. This situation encourages an exodus of residents from the center to other cheaper and less exploited areas. As the city which populated by various type of people especially young executive who’s demanding more modern and large area living but being compress by high living cost make them search any potential alternative living habitant. Tourist focus service dominated and sprawl among Georgetown and by fact tourist not running the city, they come and go. Yes, tourist generate large amount of economic income but the local community who are running the city and make it work. The amalgamation should be done between the local community and the tourist by equally plan and program to make city more lively, sustainable and vibrant

URBAN MORPHOLOGY GEORGETOWN PENANG

Since the acquisition of UNESCO world heritage site status, the number of tourists coming into Penang has been overwhelming. now, the tourism sector contributes more than a third to Penang’s total GDP. Penang has also been receiving international recognition and attracting investors into its midst. The area should be thriving with trading and preservation of intangible culture, however, in the present day, the population of George Town is decreasing. In fact, 30% of the population declined since 2000. The data is startling since George Town holds so much potential and promise. The question was posed, how do we keep George Town especially the designated site alive? Preserving intangible culture is highlighted in the outstanding universal values (OUVS) prescribed to George Town. however, the situation on site does not encourage this to happen especially having little or no youth at all to continue the culture with no suitable spaces. the study area has a strong background on history, culture, religion and architecture. Its commercial and services opportunities are great due to its position in the ‘core area’ of George Town. it has a good prospect to be a hub for intangible cultures to be preserved and at the same time, commercialised to the locals and tourists. food, textile, clothing, performing arts, music, religious goods, festivals and celebrations – can be capitalised and enhanced to become youthful, engaging programs that gives experience and encourage people to spend more time in the area. According to our study, it is important that the street maintains its diversity, intensity and liveliness (Jacobs, J. 1961). hence, the main concern is density. the density in the built form as well as in the public realm. The strategies must be wholesome in creating footfall and presence. These programs need be structured to have commercial values, educational and a creative outlet for both locals and tourists. the study must include a projection of space and density for the growth of the city. it is crucial that the strategy will create a resilient urban structure that engages the morphology of population, climate, programs and structure.

Georgetown, Penang one of recognized world heritage site by UNESCO. Georgetown rich with the heritage city wall effect as the street give different essence and memories. By engage focusing in heritage value, the community who living Georgetown as less attention given. They start to search alternative way of living cause reducing density resident in Georgetown. Adaptive capacity living come as pilot solution by improve density, resilient, and allowed the community reshaping the city. A new resident city is created by layering the original city. It’s come by amalgamate between heritage city and resident city. Sky city were created above roof level that focusing more in resident will conduct better potential setting to the existing heritage city. This concept will be achieved by modulating space accordingly to the need and spaces. The aim was to preserve the status heritage city of Georgetown on extension living that will later become pilot solution of evolving way of living in the heritage city. Not only maintain the UNESCO world heritage status but improve potential density of vibrant community together. The idea of extension living space in culture is widely in Malaysia. Expansion in space gives flexibility of the house that can be extend and addition of space cause by easy method of assemble and reassemble. It’s come in modular concept by extending rumahibu (main house) to rumahdapur (kitchen), selang (passage) anjung (covered porch) serambi (balcony) and others. This expansion modular concept expand and evolve as per way of living for example nowadays a complete house come with bedroom and toilet compare the old typology toilet located out of the house. Extension spaces in different typology in culture way of living and its evolving to its fitness. Not only by living this idea also apply in industry, education, business and others.

DESIGN SOLUTION PROPOSAL THE PANOPTICITY: To induce in the inmate a state of conscious and permanent visibility that assures the automatic functioning of power. Implementation on the urban design, the panopticity use as data base that hold all the information that can control the system and access the data. Peripheric ring was introduce by solution apply on the urban problem : creating multiple event by utilise open space to public realms, application own custome matrix inhabitat, living in capsule concept, mutual connection and idea of minimal or free, and sharing business marketing. All of this peripheric ring are control by the clound that develop by sentral college of penang to build a organisation to introduce the manifesto to public.its appear that sentral college is the highest building at the urban enclave that work best of the philosophy ot the panopticity as tower that one is totally seen. ANCHOR AND IMPULS anchor and impulse are symbolised to imagine the concept of gravity of attraction. the anchor is stand for the activity or program that injected to the site. the anchor activity or program is the main catalyst to the site that bring people to the path and enclave. the anchor program works best at the nodes, however its doesn’t necessary to have nodes as anchor program. between one anchor to another anchor attract gravitational people come and in between anchor become as impulse. impulse is commercial shop that place in between will have good exposure to walking path. more people who walk that path come with more potential to the commercial shop visit and vibrancy. at bishop street Penang, there are 4 identified potential anchor which is Logan Heritage building, which major in cafe and bar. Logan Heritage building also serve to have art gallery and rentable indoor space event. The other anchor is Central College Penang located at the middle of the street. The application of this college is the assemble of the student and at the same time the lobby become public event stage that show the manifesto of sky village, the assemble disassemble custom habitat. By mean stage also can be divide to 8 typologies of event to stage type that later be discuss at stage typology. The other building is Rio Hotel & Kedai Kopi focusing on logging and restaurant. At the end of the street is St. George Church famously as UNESCO Heritage building, visit by local and foreigner or tourism. Along this elongated linear street with 4 anchor programs, will create a huge gravitational attract action both people within the enclave and people outside the boundary because at the other end, Logan Heritage building is where the Rapid free bus shutter stop point that encourage people in stop and visit. This results the vibrancy street that act as impulse within the anchor, people will visit at one shop to the other shop. RESTAURANT MERLIN HOTEL

PRESEDENT STUDIES A magnet

The CaixaForum is conceived as an urban magnet attracting not only art-lovers but all people of Madrid and from outside.

The attraction will not only be CaixaForum’s cultural program, but also the building itself, insofar that its heavy mass, is detached from the ground in apparent defiance of the laws of gravity and, in a real sense, draws the visitors inside. A spectacular transformation The only material of the old power station that we could use was the classified brick shell. In order to conceive and insert the new architectural components of the CaixaForum, we began with a surgical operation, separating and removing the base and the parts of the building no longer needed. This opened a completely novel and spectacular perspective that simultaneously solved a number of problems posed by the site. The removal of the base of the building left a covered plaza under the brick shell, which now appears to float above the street level. This sheltered space under the CaixaForum offers shade to visitors who want to spend time or meet outside, and at the same time, it is the entrance to the Forum itself. Problems such as the narrowness of the surrounding streets, the placement of the main entrance, and the architectural identity of this contemporary art institution are addressed and solved in a single urban and sculptural gesture. A construction below and a construction above ground The separation of the structure from the ground level creates two worlds: one below and the other above the ground. The “underworld” buried beneath the topographically landscaped plaza provides space for a theater/auditorium, service rooms, and several parking spaces. The multi-storied building above ground houses the entrance lobby and galleries, a restaurant and administrative offices. There is a contrast between the flexible and loft-like character of the exhibition spaces and the spatial complexity of the top floor with its restaurant / bar and the offices. The surprising sculptural aspect of the CaixaForum’s silhouette is no mere architectural fancy, but reflects the roofscape of the surrounding buildings. HAVING OWN CUSTOME INHABITAT CUSTOM HABITAT Custom habitat is introduced to the society that encourage people to decide their own requirement on specification on their living. This concept is matrix modular system by assemble disassemble construction. The idea of extension living is not the new idea. If we looked back at old time in Rumah Melayu housing, the house starts with Rumah Ibu. The size of the house in co-related with live style of the occupancy. same as concept Rumah Melayu that used extension of Rumah Ibu to have Rumah Dapur, Selang, Anjung and other space by assemble disassemble construction technique. The different on life style now days, housing become an enclave with everything inside that suit to the occupancy. For example, Rumah Melayu has separated toilet and no proper boundary for bedroom except for parents’ room compare to the typical nowadays house, that has proper segregate boundary by enclose wall to justified a bedroom and build in toilet. Another typology of living nowadays, because of limiting and high value of space majorities in cities area, people start have to choose another alternative way of living by compact living. Compact living is way of living that to have a certain space to occupant in small or appropriate area. This proposal is to supply high demand of housing that can be spend by Young Executive to have a house that fit to their needs and money. The idea is having house on the top of the shop lot building. Shop lot Penang before is the shop at the ground level and the owner of shop or land owner are stay at the first floor in shop lot where they have business and living. So, the idea is the negotiation between the developer to the land owner to have an agreement. The developer will propose to the land owner, land owner do not have to spend the capital to the development but in fact everything will be prepare by the developer. By the agreement, the land owner could have a certain percentage on the profit that can be used to upgrade this own existing business. The modular matrix living can be excess by the internet using computer or smart phone and the user can place the spaces and furniture like playing simulator SIMS game. User can arrange and choose wat type of finishing, material, furniture and fitting including the material price and construction. After the arrangement it will be sent to the CLOUD to be advise by the architect. Later the custom matrix house will construct base on the instruction prepare before. This method will give variety and flexibilities to the user to have their own living base on their needs and expenses.

PARAMETER A certain parameter guideline is established to materialise this concept. Base on the UNESCO requirement, any category 2 building, the facade of the building is compulsory to maintain. To fulfilled the requirement the arrangement is gradually rise up to the back and give respective full heritage facade when people stand at the front of the building. So, when people stand exact frontal of the building they may not see any additional attachment on the top of the building but on the other perspective except the frontal people will see glance of the modular matrix house

EXTENSION OF LIVING The life expectancy is not much different from the old time to the modern type but it’s different on way of living. This custom habitat is targeting to Young Executive, person who are university or college, school graduate and start living by their own. by high concentration young executive in the society appear that need of living is high but the economy not really promising to have complete house. One young executive or married couple only need a certain space and of course depend on their expenses. For example, one young executive needs to have compact living and kitchen, one bedroom and one toilet. At mean time when the young executive got kids the space of house can extant to its fitness such as additional of another bedroom and toilet. With this idea, the occupancy can have time to collect money to have a certain comfortability related to needs. By expectation 5 to 20 years, the occupancy may have enough collection of money by work and house price properties to have new house on ground instead of house at top of the shop lot house. The parameter of the house extension is 450squarefeet to 1200squarefeet. Any further extension require negotiation with neighbouring area. A certain planning and design must take highly consideration before construction is the water supply, sewerage, and electrical grid. The extension also must consider to have open ventilate space and green space to make the area of living become resilient and lively to live and give comfort

CHANGEABLE STAGE PROPOSAL This is manifesto to introduce to people about the machangeable stage proposal to the Sentral College Penang at the lobby area required 2 storey spaces. this idea is extract from Wyly Theather located at Dallas USA by REX & OMA architect There are 8 typology of the stage that can change and transform to type: studio theatre type, transverse type, trust type, proscenium type, sandwich type, arena type, bipolar type, and flat floor type. By adapting proven technologies for new uses, the stage can be altered into a wide array of configurations including proscenium, thrust, arena, traverse, studio, and flat floor configurations with only a small crew in a few hours. Directors and scenic designers are empowered to select or invent the stage-audience configuration that fulfils their artistic desires, facilitating experimentation. Space limitation occur when different function with different usage of area, by this idea a singular space can be utilised in varies way of manipulating space arrangement that suit for its function. the multiple changeable stage not only be used by the Sentral College to present the manifesto of custom modular matrix inhabitant, the space also can be rent by other parties to organise event. located at the nodes of the street intersect with bishop street and Penang street, it’s give high possibilities of people visit to that spot. this allow possibilities and flexibilities for many program and event to be construct at the node of the street and may appear vibrancy to its fitness.

MUTUAL CONNECTION & IDEA OF MINIMAL OR FREE

CONNECTIVITY AND ROAD TREATMENT

CAT, which stands for Central Area Transit, is an initiative of the Penang Island Municipal Council (MPPP) and Rapid Penang. It covers a route from Jetty to Penang Road and back. Along the way, it makes 19 stops at strategic points of interest. The service runs from 6:00 am in the morning until 12:00 am midnight. Apart from the route around Komtar, the shuttle service ply roads within the core and buffer zones of the George Town UNESCO World Heritage Site. Rapid Penang has prepared three air-conditioned buses which were specially painted with the CAT livery for easy recognition. In front of the bus as a “Hop on Free” sign. On the sides are the words “City Hop On” and “Central Area Transit”. The 19 bus stops along the route have also been properly signage. The bus stops are numbered to help visitors identify their location vis-a-vis the tourist attractions of the vicinity. One the other hand, pedestrian walking become most priority in movement efficiency because it come with less infrastructure cost, later than bicycle, transit bus, and singular occupancy vehicle. The idea is celebrating walking and limit the usage of engine base transport.

KEVIN LYNCH | PERCERPTION OF THE CITY “Looking at cities can give a special pleasure, however commonplace the sight may be. Like a piece of architecture, the city is a construction in space, but of a vast scale, . . . perceived only in the course of long spans of time . . . At every instant, there is more than the eye can see, more than the ear can hear, a setting or view waiting to be explored. Nothing is experienced by itself, but always in relation to its surroundings, the sequences of events leading up to it, the memory of past experiences . . . Every citizen has had long associations with some part of his city, and his image is soaked in memories and meanings . . . “ - KEVIN LYNCH LEGIBILITY is essentially the ease with which people understand the layout of a place method of analyzing legibility based on five elements: PATHS, EDGES, DISTRICTS, NODES AND LANDMARKS.

Existing road at the site have carpark at both side. This situation resulting block view to the heritage building and struggle to access the shop lot. The proposal is to remove all the side parking, car can park at subbasement parking provided. The area later will transform to pedestrian walk 10 feet isolated with 3feet green vegetation and the other 3feet to bicycle user before road used by car. This give good sustainable approach by limiting the carbon footprint produce by car, and buffering the pedestrian road by green vegetation.

For all intents and purposes, it is a cooperative travel program, with members using the site to both ‘surf’ other’s couches, or ‘host’ travelers in their hometown. It is a testament to the rapid growth and spread of globalization; you can now contact stranger’s worlds apart and request to stay with them. There is no monetary exchange. This concept is often confusing to those outside of the Couchsurfing community because it goes so far beyond the economical rules of our society. Couchsurfing encourages the sharing of space yes, but also time, cultures, personal history, experiences, and passions; all things which are quite literally priceless. -http://thetravellingtable.com/ may2015

ARCHITECTURE COMPETITION | BOLOGNIA URBAN PROJECT SYPHODIUM - GREEN URBAN PILLARS

213

214

CREATING A RESILIENT URBAN COMMUNITY Bolognina is a neighbourhood inside of Navile District that is located just outside the walls of Bologna city. There are around 35,000 inhabitants reside in the neighbourhood. The neighbourhood was at the peak of its presence way back during 1865 when the city became a national node of rail traffic and was invested by a massive industrialization process. However, the big benefactor moved away during 90s which consequently causes major social degeneration, promote criminality and depreciation of the area. The area is now populated with mixed population from different countries and culture. This population variety may promote urban vibrancy if all the inhabitant can be brought together through sustainable renovation and social integration. Their similarities are that they tended to live and work in the same area which has the potential to gain strong sense of community. Based on climatic analysis, Bologna has quite cold winters and very hot summers. The temperature fluctuation is a serious matter to be considered. The city experienced severe heat-waves in the last decade and the Urban Heat Island affects the most part of urbanized environment. In addition, heavy rains often affect the geographical area, and in the past the flooding risk has been strongly considered in the water management strategies due to the proximity of two important rivers (Savena and Reno) to the city. Global warming may also be seen as a catalyst that often triggers unexpected climatic change such as heavy and long rainy days which exposes Bologna to risk of flooding in the future.

SYPHODIUM - GREEN URBAN PILLARS Taking into account of Bologna climatic condition, the main objective of the proposal is to provide additional evacuation ground for the inhabitant in case the flood occurred. However, during non-flood period, the ‘evacuation ground’ will benefit the local people as it functions as an alternative for urban cultivation. The structure will consist of 3 main elements that are 1. The podium; 2. The crop cylinder; and the 3. Rainwater syphon. The modular vertical cylinder structure will have built to fit a purpose as vertical farming. During flood period, the cylinder structure will be dissembled and a structure to house evacuate ground level inhabitant will be built replacing it. The syphon will allow for rain water to be channelled into rain water harvesting tanks that is embedded in the ground below. The water will be utilized to water crop in the cylinder structure. Thus, rainwater retention is efficiently done as runway water are reduced. The site is blessed with adequate sun light and precipitation all-year-round thus it is conducive to cultivation crops. As local inhabitants participate in the cultivation, they gain strong sense of community. The integration of different cultures of between the locals and immigrants will promote urban vibrancy to the area. The crop cultivated by the cylindrical structure will be commercialized at the nearby market thus encouraging mixed use and local commerce.

215

BOLOGNA CLIMATE ANALYSIS HIGH FLUCTUATION

Average Minimum And Maximum Temperature Over The Year

Bologna temperature experiences major fluctutation throughout the year which coldest reading is 20C whereas highest reading is 320C. This indicate that residents don’t have the privillege to cultivate the same type of plants all-year-round. Thus it is important to have alternative of type of cultivation.

FLOOD RISK Thanks to Global Warming, climate worldwide has experienced major change. Bologna may soon faces great flood based on previous average rainy days. When flood occur, it is important to stay close to food supplies to continue survive since flood usually causes affected residents to be stranded. Average Monthly Rainy Days Over The Year

HIGH PRECIPITATION Since Bologna is blessed with relatively high precipitation especially at the end of the year, residents can benefit from it by harvesting the water for cultivation use. Rainwater harvesting may be a sustainable method to create a self-sufficient city. Average Monthly Precipitation Over The Year (Rainfall, Snow)

HIGH SUNSHINE Not only Bologna is blessed with high precipitation, it also exposed to consistent sunshine all-year-round thus making the city conducive to start plant cultivation. The plants may also provide extra O2 supplies to the city as photosynthesis occured at daily basis. Average Percent Of Sunshine Over The Year

Above syphon, a cylinder vertical structure will build to fit a purpose as vertical farming. this structure is assembled and disassemble structure make it easy to attach and maintaining. grid of this structure makes it easy to modulate the box that hold the plant. several plans are list to due to season. there are 2 type of cultivation which is summer cultivation and winter cultivation. On average, the recycled pallet system with compost will produce more vegetable than with floating hydroponic system. The reason is that the recycled pallet with compost system is more flexible in term of usage all-year-round and in term of crop density at a single cultivation. However, the crops produced with floating hydroponic system will consume less fertiliser than of recycled pallet with compost system. This mean that the crop that will be produced is closer to being ‘organic food’. Timer used at this system to have precise watering timing to the plant. there are 2type of water tank, collection gray water tank and from grid water tank. the rain water will be collected to watering plant, balance dripping by watering also will be collected and go to storm water collection, being pump and use again. water outlet gray water from residential will maximise recycle use to optimum water usage. ABSTRACT PiNUP! SOCIETY Pin up! Society is a hypothetical project that is targeted for the youth in Malaysia. The site is located in Georgetown, Penang. The reason we choose Penang? It is the place where the youth can express themselves by contributing to the public in any way they can, as Penang is trying new ways to express their heritage tourism. This project is an egg-shaped dome, which can be in several places and typologies. We proposed 4 typologies that can be used in Penang. This is to suit the condition of the heritage buildings in Penang and how we can squeeze in the domes with minimal changes to the heritage buildings. From the 4 typologies, there are various programs that can be installed to suits the current trend of youth’s activities. These domes can be accessed through the hypothetical apps we created to create a new journey simulation to the youth. (Keyword: steel dome, urban salvage, gentrification, youth)

Youth are consisting of the millenials. The millennial generation is the generation of children born between 1982 and 2002, some 81 million children who have taken over K-12, have already entered college and the workforce. This generation will replace the Baby-boomers as they retire. The millennials have different characteristics than any generation before them and in order to serve them better, K-12 education and colleges and universities are having to change the way they do business. The millennials have grown up in a society that is very different than any group before them. They have been plugged into technology since they were babies, are a safe generation and have the most educated mothers of any generation before them. They are the most scheduled generation ever, are true multi-taskers, expect to have 6-8 careers in their lifetime and are attracted

ELEVATED FLOATING SWIMMING POOL AS DESIGN SOLUTION TO URBAN AND CLIMATE CHANGE ADDAPTIVE URBAN TRAIL - SWIMMING AND FLYING AT THE SAME TIME

PRECEDENT STUDY BLUR BUILDING The Blur Building was a media pavilion built for Swiss Expo 2002 at the base of Lake Neuchatel in Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland. From piles in the water, a system of rectilinear struts and diagonal rods cantilevers out over the lake. Ramps and walkways weave through the system, some of them providing a counterweight for the structure. “It was an exhibition pavilion with nothing on display, except for our cultural dependency on vision,” said Diller. The pavilion is made of filtered lake water shot as a fine mist through 13,000 fog nozzles creating an artificial cloud that measures 300 feet by 200 feet deep by 65 feet high. A built-in weather station controls fog output in response to shifting climatic conditions such as temperature, humidity, wind direction, and wind speed. The public can approach Blur via a ramped bridge. The 400 foot long ramp deposits visitors at the center of the fog mass onto a large open-air platform where movement is unregulated. Visual and acoustical references are erased along the journey toward the fog leaving only an optical “white-out” and the “white-noise” of pulsing water nozzles. THE DOME IS OVALSHAPED TO MINIMISE DIRECT RESISTANCE TOWARDS WIND LOAD TO THE BUILDING, BY ALLOWING THE AIR TO SWIFTLY PASSING THE BUILDING. THIS ALSO CREATES HIGH PRESSURE AT THE EXTERIOR, WHILE LOW PRESSURE IN THE INTERIOR ARE BEING CARRIED THROUGH BY THE HIGH PRESSURE AIR FROM THE OUTSIDE, THUS CREATING VENTURI EFFECT. high pressure air

low pressure air

251

high pressure air Not all triangular panels of the dome are fully enclosed. At the pool area, the dome low pressure air is not enclosed, rather it is exposed to allow CROSSVENTILATION occurs.

SELECTION OF MATERIAL

Material used as finishing on this dome structure is double low-e glass, photovoltaic panel and frosted glass. Photovoltaic panel are dominate at top part of the dome to maximise the emission of sun and at the same time give shaded inside contiment. The panel are arrage randomly to give natural effect to the environment.
