Mrs. Vera B. Murphy Principal It is v e ry h ard to find w ords that a re adequate to d e sc rib e M rs . M urphy. She is a p erso n whom m any would like to p attern th em se lv e s a fte r. When an o c casion a ris e s h e re a s te rn p erso n is needed, M rs . M urphy can e a sily be that p erso n without seem ing o v e rb e a rin g . If th e re is a n e c e ssity for an u n d e rsta n d ing and c o n sid era te individual our p r in cipal can take up the ro le with the g r e a t e st of e a s e . T his ad m irab le lady, like everybody e lse, m akes m ista k es but she does not tr y to hide the f a c t . She knows and adm its that she is not p e rfe c t. M rs. M urphy is not one to sh irk re s p o n sib ility . If she is asked to do som ething o r take over a position of le a d e rsh ip she w ill do so without a rg u m en t. To say that M rs. M urphy helps only when she is as asked would be an u n d erstatem en t for if she se e s som eone that needs help only o r a ssista n c e in doing a job she is m ore than happy to lend a helping hand. To the Langston fam ily M rs . M urphy is a God sent p erso n and to o th ers she is a tru e frie n d . The p rin cip al of Langston, M rs . V era B. Murphy, is the kind of p erso n who is loved by m any and w ill n ev er be forgotten by m any o th ers .

Mr. N.K. Wright Assistant Principal M r. N. K. W right, our A ssista n t p rin cip al, w orks tow ard a b e tte r u n d e r standing betw een students and t e a c h e r s . He also w orks h a rd at giving students m o re knowledge of the w orld around them through geography and h isto ry . M r. W right is re s p e c te d by all even though he does not allow law infractio n s to go unpunished. We m ay su m m arize his views on Success as follows: "S uccess is not re p re s e n te d by a bag of gold at the end of the ra in b o w --it is not a sudden s tre a k of luck on a long c h a n c e --it is not n e c e s s a rily enjoyed in a palace surro u n d ed by lu x u ries and s e r v a n ts . Success is a sta te of m ind which com es to you o r m e through any degree of p ro g re s s and achievem ent. Drops of sw eat from honest effort a re alw ays m o re g ra c io u s than idle te a rs from weak w ishing. H appiness is in d o in g --su c c e s s is in the step forw ard, how ever steep the g ra d e . ”

A N ED ITO R IAL FROM W IL A ,

President Johnson has cal led upon al I c itiz e n s to get behind his d riv e to keep people in school. We w h o le h e a rte d ly support this e ffo rt. This year it is estim ated th a t n e arly one m illio n people w ill drop out o f school unless we do something to co n vin ce them to fin is h th e ir e d u c a tio n . These young people are in danger o f curbing th e ir own futures and robbing the N a tio n o f its p o te n tia l. Today, more than e v e r, our youths need a ll the education and s k ills they can g e t. The school dropout has the hardest tim e fin d in g em p lo y m ent. He also is more lik e ly to become trapped in a ro u tin e , lo w -p a y in g jo b . Today's dropouts are the people who w ill co n tinu e the c y c le o f p o ve rty and slow the N a tio n 's progress. They are the people who in the fu tu re w ill be on the r e lie f ro lls and in the unem ploym ent lin e s. It is im p e ra tiv e , th e re fo re , th a t each o f us do e v e ry th in g possible to in flu e n c e and urge young people to stay in school and prepare themselves fo r the challenges of tom orrow . This sta tio n urges your support o f the President's e fforts to keep youngsters in school u n til they com plete th e ir e d u ca tio n . I t 'l l pay o ff b ig fo r them and fo r a ll o f us.
