The next meeting will be held at 1:00 P.M. on January 13. It will be held at the home of Arnieta Kurtz, 201 South 90th Place, Mesa, AZ. 480-634-6604 Hope for good weather, as we will be entertained by a litter of 9 week old puppies and the yard is a much better venue. Directions: Take The Red Mountain Freeway (202) and exit at Broadway. Go East one block to 90th St. Turn left (North) and go two blocks to Balsam. Turn right (East) for one block to 90th Place. House is on the corner.
Lure Coursing: We will be holding a trial and JC test on February 17 at Crossroads Park in Gilbert. Come to join in the fun, help with the many easy jobs, or just watch the dogs run. Take Greenfield to Knox Rd. Go past the soccer fields to the Basin Area. Reminders: Dues for 2013 are due on Jan. 1 and will be considered delinquent on April 1. If you haven’t done so yet please send to Membership Chair, Joy McNulty, 9305 E. Medina, Mesa, AZ 85209. Single--$10, Family--$15, Associate--$5 When traveling with your basenji Motel6 is a pet friendly lodging option. They will give you a discount when traveling with your AKC registered dog. We are planning on an Easter Fun Day for March. Time and place to be decided on later.

The next meeting will be with the Lure Coursing on February 17. It will be held at Crossroads Park, Basin Area, 2155 Knox Rd., Gilbert, AZ 85256. We will start early. If you would like to help, or just watch, or run a dog, plan to start at 7:00 A.M. We will have a lure coursing trial, JC Tests, and Coursing Ability Tests for non-sighthounds and mixed breeds. You must register your non-AKC dogs with AKC. The paperwork can be done the day of the trial. Directions: From the South, take the San Tan Freeway (202) to Greenfield. Go North to Knox Rd. Turn left into the park and proceed to the West parking lot. From the North, take Rt. 60 to Greenfield. Go South to Knox Rd. (South of Guadalupe) and turn right into the park. Proceed to the West parking lot. Notice: Dues were due on Jan. 1 and will be considered delinquent on April 1. If you havenâ€™t sent your dues please send them to the Membership Charirperson, Joy McNulty, 9305 E. Medina Ave., Mesa, AZ 85209 480-983-3372 You can also pay Joy at the trial Feb. 17. If you are not on this list please contact Joy. Specialty: Now that the 2012 specialty is over we are working on one for 2013. The date and place have not been decided at this time. The park in Apache Junction has been great, but the weather in the fall can make or break an outdoor show. So far we have been lucky. More information to come later.

Easter Fun Day! When? Sunday, March 24 Where? The home of Arnieta Kurtz, 201 South 90th Pl., Mesa, AZ (480) 634-6604 Directions: Red Mountain Freeway—202, exit at Broadway Go East to first street—90th Street Go North to second street—Balsam Go East one block to 90th Place - House is on the corner Due to budget constraints we will not be at our usual Rodeo Grounds. However, we can still have the egg hunt and Easter parade for the dogs. No lure coursing practice, but there is a shaded patio for the dogs. The yard is fully fenced. Sandwich fixings will be provided. Bring something to share—chips, veggies, cookies, etc. We will again have raffle items. We will not be able to microchip dogs, but will have the microchips available for $20, which includes the lifetime registration. Your vet can insert the chip for you. Reminder: Dues are due by April 1. You can pay at the Fun Day or send your dues to Joy McNulty, 9305 E. Medina Ave., Mesa, AZ 85209. Lure Coursing: Our trial on February 17 was successful. We made a small profit. We had JC tests, a trial, and CATS and PALS runs after the trial. Coursing Ability Tests are for non-sighthound breeds. The dogs run singly and receive a ribbon. PALS are run the same way and mixed breeds can participate. All dogs must have an AKC number, which can be done at the trial. Specialty 2013: Plans are proceeding for our specialty next fall. More information next time. 2012 Awards: Time to start thinking about the awards party in June. If your dog earned any title in 2012—conformation, performance, AKC, UKC, IABCA, etc.—send your information to the secretary, 201 South 90th Place, Mesa, AZ 85208. Please include the dogs name, title earned, and whether you are the breeder, owner, or both. Puppies! Flo Havens and Mary DeWhitt announce the birth of five puppies—all red and white—to Angel and Dandy. Four boys and one girl.

The next meeting will take place on May 14 at 1:00 P.M. It will be held at the home of Joy McNulty, 9305 E. Medina, Mesa, AZ (480) 983-3372 Directions: Take #60, Superstition Freeway, to Ellsworth. Exit South. After you cross Baseline stay to the left. You will turn left into Augusta Ranch on Lansing. Then make the first right turn, which will be Lobo. Then turn left on Compton. 9305 will be on the SW corner of Compton and Medina. Awards: Don’t forget to let Flo Havens know if your dog earned any awards in 2012— AKC, UKC, IABCA, conformation, performance, etc. The Awards Party will be in June. Specialty: The specialty will be held on Sunday, November 3. It will be held indoors at the Windemere Hotel and Conference Center in Mesa. We have requested permission from BCOA to hold the event, then will submit plans to AKC. More information to follow, but save the date! Brags: Flo and Mary report that Dandy and Angel are the proud parents of 5 puppies—4 boys and 1 girl, all red and white. Dandy is also the #3 basenji in the United Kennel Club and has been invited to attend the Invitational Show in Kalamazoo, MI, in June. This is an elimination competition. Arnieta‘s boy, Red, finished his UKC championship, so is now an AKC, IABCA, and a UKC champion.
