Artist Statement Art is not a mirror held up to reality, but a hammer with which to shape it. - Bertold Brecht. An HP pencil and a piece of paper that is how it all began. Ideas rushing in my mind, never ending rolls and sheets of paper just simple sketches of shapes and lines with different shades using that one pencil. Looking at all the sketches and drawings that’s when I decided maybe I should apply these ideas as designs. Starting of in a college of engineering majoring in architectural engineering I learned all the basics of structures, materials and designing a building as a whole. As time went by my passion in designing and art grew fonder where I moved to the college of arts and sciences at Zayed University and entered the Interior design program. Art is where I belong and through art I am able to express my thoughts and feelings and every other thing life teaches me and makes me go through. Life is a neverending journey where I learn a little everyday and overcome struggles making me renew the way I look at things around me and consistently changing my perspective. Life inspires me in the strangest ways, not only beautiful things catch my attention but also the tiny insignificant objects and shapes. Nature to random captions of movements and the connections of everything living and no living creates a spark of inspiration in me especially when I am in the process of creating a design or an art piece. i sometimes feel that I am in a mission of discovering how everything around me got created and figure out the mechanism of how it works the way it does whether it’s a device of even a dance. My dream is to become an architect and a successful designer that designs and builds creative, functional and smart spaces yet beautiful and iconic.

This project was basically a transformation of an old building that exists in Istanbul into a fashion design institute. The images above and below sums up the whole design I generated. My inspiration was turkish mosaic, where I took part of the mosaic and disconnecting its details to come up with design that best fits my space. The main element of this design is the staircase in the middle of the building where I designed it to be almost suspended and hung from the ceiling with steel ropes. The interior is spacious and clean with barely any partition walls to give an openness to the space.

Interior- Lighting Redesign

A lighting redesign is choosing an existing interior with poor lighting then designing a new lighting system that enhances the interior and increases its function. I chose an open hall with a glass dome as the ceiling which is an entrance of a residence. It was too bright during the day and too dark during the night without any interesting accent lights that shows the beauty of the dome. therefore, I created a light design system using LED tube lights and tower lights. Not only that but also a tube light from the outside of the dome to illuminate it to the inside of the space.

Interior - Light Fitting Design

This was one of the most interesting projects where I designed my own light and actually went to a factory and made it by hand. It not just a light but also an art piece and a decorative element. This light is made out of acrylic panels, LED strip light and some fishing wires for support.

Sustainability is becoming an important issue in the region and building sustainable buildings is becoming a necessity. When we say sustainable we mean its power and cost efficient. This building is sustainable as it satisfies the following aspects:

To create a mild cool environment inside the building, all the exterior walls are insulated and all the windows have shading devices or techniques. This minimizes the use of airconditions. "Detail 2" shows how the bathrooms are aligned next to each other to share the same plumbing system.
