Deadly Crossing Australian killed as train crushes car
hua hin, thailand We are sad to report that on Sunday 28th November an Australian man, Mr Robert Dickinson, was killed when the car he was driving was struck by a train at a railway crossing in the centre of Hua Hin. The train (number 911) was travelling from Bangkok to Suan Son Pradiphant and the collision was at the crossing closest to Hua Hin Railway station which mainly provides access to the Royal Hua Hin Golf Club, and it is believed that Mr Dickinson was indeed on his way to play golf there. It has been reported that there was also a passenger in the car who was taken to hospital but no official details have been released as to their identity or condition. Mr Dickinson was 64 years old and leaves a Thai wife and her son behind.

A lucky trucker survived a real-life cliffhanger when his overloaded lorry balanced above a 122m (400ft) drop after its brakes failed. The lorry – loaded with 40 tonnes of coal – was going too fast to make a turning in Qingzhen, south-west China. ‘The driver had been convinced he was going to die and took a lot of persuading to climb out of his cab and back up the truck,’ said a police spokesman.

WASHINGTON, USA Potato-only diet: US man eats nothing but 20 spuds a day for two months A man in the US has finally come to the end of his highly publicised potato-only diet, which resulted in him losing a stone and a half in weight over two months. Chris Voigt started his unique diet on October 1 in an attempt to draw attention to the nutritional benefits of eating the vegetable. As executive director of the Washington State Potato Commission, Mr Voigt hopes his efforts will highlight what a good source of fibre, potassium and vitamin C potatoes are. He is believed to have eaten nothing but 20 potatoes every day for 60 days and claims despite health warnings, has actually lost weight and seen his cholesterol level drop. ‘The people who know me closely know I’m a huge introvert, so this is kind of out of my comfort zone, being front and center,’ he said. ‘But this is also part of my job, so I embrace it and welcome it.’ After 60 days of eating only spuds, Mr Voigt said he was planning on having a belated Thanksgiving turkey dinner for his first proper meal in two months.

And if that ain’t Art, we don’t know what is! • Holiday Festival at the “19 Rai” 5th - 14th December.. A 9 day festival of food, drink, and entertainment at the ‘fairgrounds‘ across from the Imperial Hotel on the beach between Sois 19 and 35, just to the north of the King’s palace. Festivities will begin on the King’s Birthday, Sunday 5 December, and continue through Tuesday 14 December, with free admission. Entertainment every night. • Chet Samien Arts Festival, running over seven weekends, 27 November until 9 January 2011. While not in Hua Hin, this promises to be an exceptional event and all the more notable for its location in a small community in Ratchaburi Province. Tambon Chet Samien is about a 2-hour drive from Hua Hin, straight up Route 4/Petkasem. It is also accessible by train. The festival program has a repeating schedule of tours, art exhibitions and sales, demonstrations, and performances, plus special featured events on each Saturday and Sunday evening. Chelsea v Everton, 22:00 We think this is likely to be a tense affair as both teams try to recover from a slump in form. Very tight and a shock away win. Man City v Bolton, 22:00 Both of these teams suffered disappointing draws last week but this should be quite a game with lots of goals. City to edge it. Wigan v Stoke, 22:00 Wigan were poor last week and Stoke will see this as a chance of some points. Martinez will demand better though and we predict a draw.

Home win. Tuesday, 7 December 2010 Liverpool v Aston Villa, 03:00 Likely to be an emotional return for Houllier and he and Hodgson can share some Werthers Originals after the game.
