allows pastors and their congregations the forum to speak out on their various concerns on porn addiction and other taboo afflictions that are silently plaguing and invading U. S. churches today in unprecedented record levels! One by one, these taboo subjects are brought to light in this most shocking and revealing investigative report.

By Friedrich Gomez Do pastors and church-going Christians, personally, struggle with pornography and other taboo issues in record numbers today? If we journalist and media reporters would occasionally just step aside, and let leaders of these various religious groups speak for themselves . . . then maybe we might just learn a thing or two. MAJORITY OF PASTORS, MINISTERS & PREACHERS, SAY VIEWING PORNOGRAPHY IS A MAJOR PROBLEM. Today, 93% of church pastors that were polled and surveyed testified that viewing pornography is an increasing and serious problem in the church today – for themselves, as well as for their Thesecongregations.U.S.Christian churches have taken bold ‘ownership’ in recognising a disturbing reality with their righteous battle cry: “Ignoring (any) spiritual problem within the House of God is not compatible with the will of God.” This battle cry was set by their own Christian saviour, Himself, over 21 centuries prior, when he ‘cleansed’ the house of worship from any malfeasance and, with ‘righteous anger,’ he openly toppled the tables of money-changers and knocked over the cages of sacrificial birds, and loudly proclaimed for all posterity: “My Temple shall be called a house of prayer, but you have turned it into a den of thieves!” (Matthew 21:13. Several years ago, thieves smashed their way into our house by leveraging open a patio door and they made off with a TV set and two video recorders. It happened in mid-afternoon while we were out on a quick trip to a nearby shopping center. None of the neighbors who were home at the time heard a thing. It happened the day after we had a contractor replace the roof on our house. We made the mistake of letting a couple of workers use our bathroom during the day. Those thieves didn’t make a mess because they knew exactly where everything was. This happens when you’re at home, so your residence is even more vulnerable when you’re away. And despite the televised showings of all those criminals caught on camera, less than 20 percent of the homes in this land have any type of security system. If you don’t have the time or budget to install a home security system Now that I have brought you up to date, I want to tell you there was no dormitory fire; I did not have a concussion or a skull fracture; I was not in the hospital; I am not pregnant; I am not engaged. I do not have syphillis, and there is no Middle East Terrorist in my life. However, I am getting a D in Sociology and an F in science, and I wanted you to see these marks in the proper perspective. •••• I remember a time not so long ago when I sent SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed) off for a trip home to Bonnie Scotland. This was back in the day before her dementia kicked in. I sent her home for a five week holiday. Decided to give her a proper send off and visit a nice hotel located right at the Airport. We chose the Airport Marriott. As we drove up they had a doorman dressed in one of those white pith helmets such as they wear in Jamaica. "Walkom to de Marriott Hotel, my fren," he said. "Why, thank you. . .uh, er. .(looking at his name tag). ."Pepe". "You welcome. I thin you very mush like de hotel. Ees wan berry, berry nice hotel." $239 per night. Previously, the council approved a measure asking voters if they want to raise the city’s sales tax by ¾ of a cent for 15 years to bridge projected future budget deficits. Escondido voters will decide on all three ballot measures in the Nov. 8 election.

The council voted unanimously at its meeting Wednesday to place both the term limit and treasurer’s items on the ballot. All three measures — including the sales tax increase — require a simple majority for approval by voters.

The approval of Prop 47 served to reclassify and downgrade a number of serious crimes . The theory went: Our prisons are overcrowded, and we need to give people a second chance, so we shouldn’t prosecute nonviolent crimes. Drug possession, repeated shoplifting, gun theft, and possession of date-rape drugs (all of which were felonies before Prop 47 was approved) are now classified as misdemeanors, with a penalty of up to one year in jail . However, most often, they result in the issuance of a citation, with no jail time or rehabilitation services.

In addition to weighing in on the ballot measures, city voters will elect a mayor and council members to represent council districts 1 and 2.

As I watch this generation try to rewrite our history, one thing I'm sure of: it will be misspelled and have no punctuation. Me, sobbing: "I'm not coming back here anymore ... I'm not going to let you hurt me again.” My trainer: "It was just one sit-up."

CHRISTIANS AT THE SAME RATE AS THE SECULAR POPULATION? Do church pastors, ministers, and preachers, as well as their strict church-attending Christians, all watch pornography at about the same frequency as the rest of the secular U. S. population? Surprising to most, the answer is that BOTH devout Christians and pastors combined . . . all seek and watch pornography at about the same frequency (and addiction level) as the rest of the U. S. secular population.

As Christian surveys show: “Not only has pornography invaded the churches, but statistics clearly show that: Christians engage in viewing pornography at almost the samerates as the rest of the secular population.”

It bears repeating: Statistically, most Christians have initially (denied) their regular viewing of porn, even to their closest friends and/or pastors.

Not all mortals seek Lust for Power. Not everyone necessitates Great Wealth as a requirement for their happiness. Yet all mortals are of the flesh, and carnal lust is an inseparable biological power. “Lust for Carnal Pleasure” is among the highest standards imposed by the Christian Bible. It is the ostensible “ultimate challenge” to mortal beings, as the gauntlet is thrown down in Biblical Scripture: “But I say unto you, That whoever looketh on a woman to lust after her, hath already committed adultery in his heart.” (Matthew 5:28)

& PASTORS WATCH PORNOGRAPHY

According to one mainstream nondenominational Christian website: “One of the most difficult parts of the Christian life is the fact that becoming a disciple of Christ does not make us immune to life’s trials and tribulations, such as the death of a child, cancer, mental illness, financial hardships, work stress, marital problems, or various carnal addictions such as pornography.”

“DO NOT LET PORN STATISTICS OVERWHELM YOU!” SERMONS NOW CONFRONT PORN & OFFER INTERVENTION. To the great credit of U. The fact that pornography has such a tight grip on our society does not mean the Church is helpless to fight against it. PASTORS ARE NOT IMMUNE TO THE “STORMS OF LIFE.” THEY ALSO NEED LOVE, UNDERSTANDING & PRAYERS. If one is to subscribe to Biblical Scripture, then one must accept what is found in Romans 3:23 “For we all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

Reality Check: Pastors and men of the cloth are also human. They are not immune to stress, anger, marital to pour a wine glass full of wine. He began to leave but not before holding out his hand, into which I put a dollar tip. In what seemed like merely a few seconds later he returned. "Are Madame and the Gentlemen ready to order?" I ordered Fillet of Harrow in Strumpet Sauce, or something similar. I don't remember what SWMBO ordered as I was too busy fishing in my pocket for a dollar tip to lay in our waiter's hand as he was getting impatient. Our waiter then advised us that he was not, unlike the other waiters on staff, Hispanic, but was Persian (which is known today as Iranian). He then proceeded to outline all of the current problems in Iran, Iraq, the formation of Kurdistan, and that he was a refugee from Iran because he had been involved in politics, and on and on. Meanwhile, our plates were getting cold. I slipped him a two dollar tip and began to eat. As we left the restaurant and walked back to our room a young man asked me if I wanted a shoe shine. "No," says I, "as I am wearing Birkenstock sandals". "And lovely sandals they are, sir", at which time I laid a dollar tip in his outstretched paw. The next morning we took the hotel bus to the terminal, enjoying the free ride, giving the driver two dollars as a tip for loading 2.5 pieces of luggage. I bade SWMBO farewell, gave her a hug, a wee farewell kiss, and gave her a dollar tip. I think by now it was force of habit. I returned to hotel and checked out. Upon checking out I examined my bill. There were five phone calls I had made, collect, to my businesses. The hotel had charged me $0.75 "access charge" for each call. Steam began to come out of my ears. Nonetheless, being the suave and sophisticated world traveler that I am I signed for the bill, and laid a dollar tip in the outstretched paw of the cashier. The valet brought me my car, naturally I put a dollar in his paw as he bade me "tu tiene muy bien dia". (Have a nice day). I had a large bag of sunflower seeds that I had intended on eating while driving home to San Diego. They had been stolen. I was upset at having to pay $18 for valet parking and then being ripped off for a lousy bag of sunflower seeds. But, as there was no one to give a dollar tip to, I simply came home. I thought I had shaken off the effects of life in the big city but then the mailman came. You guessed it. As he was leaving I laid a dollar tip in his hand. He looked at me kinda funny but I couldn't help but notice that he didn't give the dollar back. Five weeks to go before I get Mary back. Think I'll send a limousine to LA to pick her up. It's probably cheaper. •••• The surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that it has never tried to contact us.

We Have Water – Let’s Use It!

It’s been eight years, through two administrations, since voters allocated billions for water projects, with almost no results. We need those projects, and we desperately need that water – now!

Many can remember the 14-year struggle to build the Poseidon desalination plant in Carlsbad. The plant, which now supplies roughly 10% of San Diego County’s water, was almost derailed by lawsuits and bureaucracy on several occasions. Recently, a new desalination plant proposed for Orange County was blocked by the Coastal Commission, despite the Governor’s support.

Recycling, desalination, storage reservoirs, reliable groundwater and sensible environmental regulations – all must be part of a comprehensive solution guaranteeing a secure water supply for California. But without changing the bureaucratic and legal hurdles blocking new projects, efforts to create additional storage capacity and water resources will continue to stall.

LEVEL OF PASTORS. According to a report by the Schaeffer Institute:

pastors also need love, and show of support, acceptance, and positive feedback. They also can become deeply depressed with no one there to support them when it comes to their own inner demons,” such was the consensus voiced by these ministers, themselves on this particular radio programme.

Our largest dams and reservoirs were built before 1979, most between 1945 and 1968, when our population was less than half its current size. My caucus and I have long supported efforts to increase water storage and conveyance capacity, to expand water recycling, and increase use of Thedesalination.Governorhas announced a new water plan for the state that would create storage for up to 4 million acre-feet of water to capitalize on big storms by storing water for dry periods. Desalination of seawater and salty groundwater would expand, and recycling would be encouraged.

California is once again in a serious drought, the second in a decade. This is a recurring problem in the arid West, but even in dry periods, we should have enough water to meet our needs. Voters understood that in 2014 when they approved a $7.5 billion water bond, which included $2.7 billion to fund construction of new dams and reservoirs. Unfortunately, few projects are underway, or even in the planning stage.

Born John Calvin Coolidge Jr., July 4, 1872, he was the 30th president of the United States serving from 1923 to 1929. Coolidge was a Republican lawyer from New England who climbed up the ladder of Massachusetts state politics, eventually becoming the 48th governor of Massachusetts.

Coolidge and his wife, Grace, who was a great baseball fan, once attended a Washington Senators’ game and sat through all nine innings without saying a word, except once when he asked her the time.

Problem Solved Cont. on Page 8

Scholars have ranked Coolidge in the lower half of U.S presidents. He gains almost universal praise for his stalwart support of racial equality during a period of heightened racial tension in the United States. His critics argue he failed to use the country's economic boom to help struggling farmers and workers in other flailing industries. There also is still much debate among historians as to the extent Coolidge's economic policies contributed to the onset of the Great Depression. However, it is widely accepted, including by his own Presidential Foundation, that the Federal Reserve System under his administration was partly responsible for the stock market crash of 1929, that occurred soon after he left office which signaled the beginning of the Depression.

Calvin Coolidge

Coolidge often seemed uncomfortable among fashionable Washington society; when asked why he continued to attend so many of their dinner parties, he replied, "Got to eat somewhere." Alice Roosevelt, the feisty daughter of Teddy Roosevelt and a leading Republican wit, underscored Coolidge's silence and his dour personality: "When he wished he were elsewhere, he pursed his lips, folded his arms, and said nothing. He looked then precisely as though he had been weaned on a pickle."

As president, Coolidge's reputation as a quiet man continued. "The words of a President have an enormous weight," he would later write, " “… and ought not to be used indiscriminately."

Coolidge’s response to the Boston Police Strike of 1919 thrust him into the national spotlight and gave him a reputation as a man of decisive action. The next year, he was elected the 29th vice president, and he succeeded to the presidency upon the sudden death of President Warren G. Harding in 1923. Elected in his own right in 1924, Coolidge gained a reputation as a small-government conservative and also as a man who said very little and had a dry sense of humor, receiving the nickname "Silent Cal." He chose not to run again in 1928, remarking that 10 years as president was "longer than any other man has had it – too long!" During his presidency, Coolidge restored public confidence in the White House after the many scandals of his predecessor's administration. He signed into law the Indian Citizenship Act of 1924, which granted U.S. citizenship to the indigenous peoples of the United States, and oversaw a period of rapid and expansive economic growth in the country, known as the "Roaring Twenties," leaving office with considerable popularity. He was known for his hands-off governing approach and pro-business stances. As a Coolidge biographer wrote: "He embodied the spirit and hopes of the middle class, could interpret their longings and express their opinions.”

In the end, LG couldn't help you locate your serial number. It's possible someone removed the sticker before you purchased the item. I would recommend that you always check for a serial number when someone delivers your appliance. Maybe the takeaway from this case is: If you're applying for a rebate, you should definitely make sure you can find a serial number before you accept the appliance. I list the executive customer service contacts for LG> on my consumer advocacy site, Elliott.org. A brief, Q: I booked a KLM flight through Expedia last year. KLM canceled the flight because of COVID in ExpediaOctober.

Some historians suggest that Coolidge's image was created deliberately as a campaign tactic, while others believe his withdrawn and quiet behavior to be natural, deepening after the death of his son in 1924. When noted wit and journalist Dorothy Parker learned that “Silent Cal” had died on July 5, 1933, she reportedly remarked: "How can they tell?"

A: LG offered you a $500 rebate for your appliances, and it should have given you one by now. LG has a helpful website where it shows you how to find the serial number on your appliance. But it only shows you where they are for washers and dryers, but not for pedestals. I did, however, find information about pedestal serial numbers online. Apparently, you can find the serial number on an exterior side panel. An LG representative also told you that normally the serial number is on a sticker on the door. I'm as frustrated as you are by this case. If I didn't know any better, I'd say LG is offering a rebate but making it impossible to redeem because it's hidden the serial number. But who knows? This may just be a simple misunderstanding.

There have been only a handful of “middle Americans” (meaning not from the ranks of the socially and educationally elite), who have ascended to the White House. Calvin Coolidge has to be counted in that small number.

I went to Home Depot, where I bought the appliances, and they couldn't help me. They gave me a number to call, but that just referred me back to the LG website. I can't get a human on the phone. This is very frustrating.

Expedia representative told me. "It sounds like the delay was due to an agent error, so we've apologized to the customer and added a $100 voucher to the traveler's Expedia account for the inconvenience."

Coolidge's family had deep roots in New England; his earliest American ancestor, John Coolidge, emigrated from Cottenham, Cambridgeshire, England, around 1630 and settled in Massachusetts. Coolidge's great-greatgrandfather, also named John Coolidge, was an American military officer in the Revolutionary War and one of the first selectmen of the town of Plymouth. His grandfather Calvin Galusha Coolidge served in the Vermont House of Representatives.

Coolidge was aware of his stiff reputation; indeed, he cultivated it. "I think the American people want a solemn ‘ass’ as a President," he once told noted actress Ethel Barrymore, "I think I will go along with them."

(Senior pastor, Greg Laurie, in a blog post.)

Shortly after Pastor Warren’s son took his own life, Newspring Church pastor, Perry Noble, publicly documented their own struggles with mental health issues and depression within the church. When many Christians, pastors, and various churches, and close Christian friends, all reached out to me, to write this story – I at first hesitated.

“I need you. “But you need Jesus to hold you and I have to be okay with that. Longing to be with you, longing to make you proud. The boys and I miss you so much. I frieking love you too. So much more than you could ever know. Wish I could tell you that right now. We all do.”

Today, a pastor whom I deeply cherish and learn much, from his religious books, lectures, sermons, devotionals, and videos, is the honourable American Southern Baptist evangelical Christian pastor, Richard Duane Warren, founder and senior pastor of the megachurch, Saddleback Church (affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention) in Lake Forest, OnCalifornia.Friday, 5 April 2013, Pastor Warren’s 27-year-old son, Matthew, committed suicide after a lifelong battle with depression and mental illAsness.with the Christian Jesus who openly cleared the Temple from malfeasance 21-centuries ago, Pastor Warren was not silent . . . he also openly declared war against clinical depression, mental health, and suicide within the church by launching “The Gathering on Mental Health and the Church.” That’s how you do it. Not by hiding it in shame, or denial, but through “transparency” and “righteousness action.”

Pastor Jarrid Wilson had a dear friend named Travis Akers, who was an Operational Iraqi Freedom veteran and a political commentator.

“Sometimes people may think that as pastors or spiritual leaders we are somehow above the pain and struggles of everyday people. People think we are the ones who are supposed to have all the answers. But we do not.”

Then the young widow concluded: “I love you so much, babe. I miss you beyond words. I will continue to shout your Anthem of Hope (his and her suicide prevention project) until my very last breath.”

In a follow-up post, Julianne writes: “I love you forever, but I have to say that you being gone has completely ripped my heart out of my chest. You loved me and the boys relentlessly and I am forever grateful that I had YOU as a husband.

LESSON TO BE LEARNED: To reiterate and drive the point home: Pastors and Christians are not immune to the “storms of life.”

RESOURCES FOR HELP: There is a special Christian website/blog for Christian pastors who may be struggling with mental health issues. The following website is specifically setup to educate and make better awareness of this “often stigmatized affliction” by explaining various “whys” and “hows” etc. It also assists in pragmatic matters, such as the following:

HIS TWO LITTLE BOYS OFTEN ASK THEIR MOMMY WHEN THEY CAN VISIT THEIR DADDY. His boys are still too small to understand, and have been asking questions about their daddy. And where he has gone. Both are little towheads (blond) and little Finch, in particular, was “asking so many questions about Heaven,” their mother, Julianne says. “He’s trying to wrap his mind around it all,” she captioned in her Instagram post. “He knows it’s a happy place, where no one is sick or sad, and he told me it sounds like a really nice place to play.”

But when military veteran Travis Akers finally decided to share his affliction publicly in order to help others, he was applauded by Pastor Jarrid, as Akers recalls: “He (Pastor Jarrid) encouraged and lifted me up. His reply after I went public was: ‘I’m proud of you man! What beautiful transparency!’”

Travis tweeted that Pastor Jarrid was one of the few people who knew of Travis Akers’ battle with alcoholism.

Pet Parade Pet Parade

Julianne added that her two sons often ask: “When can we take an airplane to visit Daddy (in Heaven)?” Then, in his innocence, little Finch reminds his mommy, “But make sure Mommy that I need to be home in time to go to school.” On social media, their mother explains: “He believes Heaven is real, even though he says he can’t see it past the clouds.”

Pastor Jarrid Wilson, who loved his wife Julianne “Juli” Wilson, and his two little boys, Denham and Finch, was taken away at only age 30. People who do not understand suicide, still do not comprehend that people who suffer from deep clinical depression, PTSD, and mental health issues, are not – because of their own affliction – not afforded the option of not wanting to leave their cherished loved ones behind. In their “broken world of depression and clinical confusion” they are not given that option. They themselves are part of their own affliction. A fellow church pastor of Wilson, wrote in part: “People obviously don’t understand the totality of mental health issues in today’s world, let alone understand the basic theology behind compassion and God’s all-consuming Grace.”

That’s all my Christian friends and pastors wanted in me writing this story: “greater public transparency,” so others may be helped.

HUGE PROBLEM: PEOPLE JUST DON’T REALLY UNDERSTAND PASTORS – THEY NEED YOUR HELP, GUIDANCE, PRAYERS ALSO. Pastor Jarrid Wilson’s suicide sent shockwaves throughout the world, even PEOPLE magazine had people in shopping queues reading about his death by suicide. His church released the following statement which said it all: “Pastor Wilson was vibrant, positive, and was always serving and helping others. He wanted to especially help those who were dealing with suicidal thoughts.

This sweet face belongs to Curly! Curly is a sensitive soul who's ready to get her next chapter started with a family who will boost her confidence and go at her pace. She entered our care as a stray with a couple of other dogs, and when we first met Curly she was experiencing a lot of fear. She's made amazing progress working with our training team and building relationships with her regular caregivers. Now she's ready to head to her new home! Curly loves enrichment, long walks to sniff around and spending time with humans who have earned her trust. She’s happy hanging out at home where she feels comfortable and snuggling with her people! Is this the girl for you? Curly is available for adoption at San Diego Humane Society’s Escondido Campus at 3500 Burnet Drive. The consequences of Prop 47 and Assembly Bill 109 have allowed situations like this to take place. AB 109 resulted in the ongoing transfer of criminals who should be serving longer-term prison sentences in state prisons for felony convictions to county jails. County jails were never designed to house violent criminals for extended periods of time, and county jails were already overcrowded before AB 109 was approved.

AB 109 also resulted in the release of tens of thousands of convicted criminals back into our community. Attempted murder, burglary, domestic violence, elder abuse, battery with serious bodily injury, terrorist threats — all of those charges previously resulted in time in California’s state prison system, but they now make offenders eligible for early release under AB 109. I’ve spoken to many law enforcement officers who feel they have their hands tied. They are trying to enforce the law, arresting dangerous criminals, only for them to be let out days later or, in many cases, cited and released immediately.

Vista • Mayor Judy Ritter Recently Vista launched a new “Clean and Safe” program to provide services to continually improve and safeguard the vitality of our Vista Village, Paseo Santa Fe and historic downtown core. Community ambassadors work to enhance the safety, cleanliness, and welcoming nature of downtown for residents, visitors, and businesses. The team of ambassadors can be seen around the downtown district connecting with local businesses, cleaning the area of litter, logging maintenance requests that require the City’s attention, and learning the needs of the community.

The city’s Streets Maintenance Division is dedicated to creating safe roads in our community. If you see a street sweeper driving around town, give them a friendly wave to thank them for their service to our community!

By performing routine street sweeping in the city, we are minimizing trash, debris and hazardous materials from flowing into storm drains and polluting our local waterways, such as the Creek Project area.

The City of San Marcos contracts with Cannon Pacific Services, Inc. to provide street sweeping services. Public residential streets are swept once per month and commercial streets are swept twice per month. Streets will not be swept on rainy days.

We spotted Friedrich Gomez and Mary Davis at Cruisin' Grand (July 29) and if we could "bottle" the pure joy and laughter which we witnessed with these two, then we could make this dark world of ours a much, much brighter and happier place.

Last night, as of this writing, the council discussed reviewing the Management Agreement the city has with the Center for the Arts. It was clear from the public comments that a number of people thought the council would be discussing defunding the Center. That is and was not the case. It is important to note that the Center belongs to the city, and so the council has a responsibility to monitor it as it does for all city assets, and in fact budgets about 3 million per year to support it. But the rest of the monies to operate the Center come from a non-profit board that hires a staff to put on shows, determine museum exhibits, etc.

When an area is well taken care of, it looks more inviting, and crime is deterred. So from the sidewalk to the street, the Vista Ambassador team is there to make certain that things are clean and safe for the community and tourists to enjoy.

Firth District Kudos to San Marcos City! Bravo to the City of San Marcos for recently opening the "Family Justice Center." The new facility salvages human lives that have been victimized by unspeakable crimes, such as Human Sexual Trafficking, Domestic Violence, and Child Abuse. This facility provides critical support services for "survivors" of such heinous human crimes. Special thanks to San Diego County District Attorney Ms. Summer Stephan for leading the For (760)InformationAdvertisingortosubscribe,Call747-7119 charge for the Family Justice Center aka "One Safe Place." Also, kudos and gratitude are extended to Mr. Friedrich Gomez for inspiring a new generation of student volunteers to get involved in making a "better world." Reading of Mr. Gomez as a dementia caregiver for the ex-wife of newspaper publisher Lyle E. Davis (Editor-in-Chief of The Paper) has inspired others to "get involved on a grassroots level."

The council should not be in the business of determining what is displayed or put on, or any type of censorship, but the council should insist that the Center should be used to elevate and promote the city. In a recent exhibition, I think one of the pieces out of many was a mis-step in the wrong direction. I proposed at the meeting that the new agreement has more detailed financial transparency and that we have a joint guiding “Values Statement” that expresses what we want the Center to do for the city, e.g., educate, heal, elevate, etc. so as to avoid future controversy.

Did you know street sweeping not only helps keep our streets clean, but also prevents stormwater pollution?

Cont.Oodlesfrom Page 102021, he was arrested for drugs, weapons, and the suspected sale of narcotics. Blas, like many criminals, knows the loopholes of the law. By pleading no contest, he was able to evade prison time because his offenses were deemed “nonvioBlas’slent.” criminal history is eerily similar to that of Flores, whose crimes were also deemed nonviolent — until he murdered two El Monte police officers. We can’t wait for someone to murder police officers before we deem them dangerous. There’s clearly something wrong with the law.

Thank you very much for your endorsement. I appreciate you doing it early in the campaign. I will keep fighting for north County resources and against fentanyl and sexually violent predators. We need to build more housing and reduce gas prices for all county residents. Thanks for your help and support.

THE TOTAL NUMBER OF PCs IN USE WORLD-WIDE HAS INCREASED EVERY YEAR SINCE 2011. HOW CAN THAT BE? There is only one explanation for this counterintuitive phenomenon; PCs are remaining technologically relevant a lot longer than they did prior to 2011. In simple terms, if your ten year old PC performs all the functions needed for your home or business, why would you buy a new one?

Every day is Dog Day here in San Diego County. One tourist told me, “When you pull up to a stop sign, look around at the other cars. You people take your dogs everywhere!”

There are several reasons why PC shipments are down here in the first half of 2022. The Covid “work from home” mandates of 2020-21 created a short term demand for PCs that drained world-wide inventories of components and finished PCs. Many PC component manufacturers affected by Covid shutdowns have been slow to get back into full production. Supply chain problems have been aggravated by manpower shortages in the shipping and material handling industries. Adding to these problems world-wide inflation, recession, the uncertainty of the war raging in the Ukraine and you have a “perfect storm” pushing new computer prices ever higher and making consumers reluctant to spend money. But there is an even bigger reason why new PC sales dropped by 18% between the second quarter of 2021 and 2022 continuing the downward trend in new PC sales that began in 2011. While new PC sales have declined in nine of the last 11 years,

PC sales tumble while prices rise in 2022. Annual Worldwide PC shipments had been steadily declining since 2011 but perked up in 2020 and 2021 as corporations bought notebook and desktop PCs for millions of employees forced to work from home by Covid restrictions. Now in the first and second quarters of 2022 we are seeing the resumption of this decline. World- wide and American PC sales were down double digits in each of the first two quarters of 2022. World-wide PC sales are dominated by the same three brands that comprise 70% of American PC sales. In the global markets, Lenovo has a 25% market share while Dell and HP are tied at 19% each. Here in America the 2022 second quarter sales numbers show Dell as the leader with a 27% market share folusers are finding it more practical to upgrade their old PCs than buy new ones is only part of the story. Commercial buyers of PC workstations find that their employees enjoy the the “perq” of getting a new PC every three to five years so the “enterprise” PCs are routinely recycled. These “enterprise” level PCs that become available from corporations schools and governments through this recycling process are significantly higher in quality, performance and reliability than the “brand new” retail PCs sold on the Internet and in Big Box retailers like Costco and Best Buy. Small business and home users have recently turned to these “refurbs” as a lowed by HP 22%, and Lenovo 16%. Apple, with its hefty PC price tags and proprietary design, operating system and applications is the fourth largest PC brand. Apple’s PCs are comfortably entrenched in their market niche accounting for about 9% of Worldwide PC shipments annually.

I believe in second chances, but being arrested 10 times in a little over two years is well beyond a second chance. Laws in Sacramento continue to put the public in danger and tie the hands of our brave law enforcement officers. Criminal groups know this and are taking advantage of it. Stories such as those of Craig Blas and Justin Flores are unacceptable, but politicians have gone soft on crime in California and adopted policies and laws that favor criminals over the safety of our communities and neighborhoods. It is time for reform. Jim Desmond is an elected supervisor in San Diego County.
