These electrifying stage re-enactments bring to life these stunning music legends by performers who impersonate them in song, style, choreography, appearance and music.

Trust me, you don’t want to miss out on these upcoming supernova events called “tribute concerts,” live on stage (music and vocals are not recorded but are from the actual

performers, themselves).

Such musical “tribute” shows are the biggest rage worldwide and normally cost a fortune to see at such venues as Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and elsewhere. Pala Casino Resort & Spa is in the forefront in offering a most spectacular schedule of glittering star-studded “tribute concerts,” all of which makes Pala Casino Resort & Spa the “Crown Jewel of Casinos.” And also the best all-around Las Vegasstyle fun and entertainment experience this side of paradise.

The Paper • Page 4 • March 05, 2020 Mountain Lion Confirmed by DFW as Killer of Family Doberman

The Department of Fish & Wildlife, has confirmed a “probable” mountain lion attack that killed a 120 pound Doberman belonging to Kayla Wood, a Valley Center resident.

The head and legs were all of the reamins found by the family. The incident occurred about 6pm on February 18 near Mystery Mountain and Wilkes Road. Woods complained CDFW did not respond for an entire week.

“I know a lot of people are concerned,” said Wood, adding, “I would like to clarify that the dog was running on our property. When we called him to come back home we heard a yelp and immediately went to look for him but could not get the dog to make any more noise. At about 9 p.m. we stopped our search efforts.” The next day they expanded their search and found the Doberman’s remains in a creek bed 150 yards from their house. When the CDFW arrived there was no remains. “We did take a look at things and we have seen the photos,” said Daly. “Gauging from that it is probable that it was a mountain lion because of the size of the dog. There is no other solid evidence.

As to the week long delay in responding, a spokesman for CDFW, Tim Daly, said one officer was sick and others were at remote locations and unable to respond sooner.

Wood said “I’m very disappointed in the way that the Dept. of Fish and Wildlife handled this case as it took them a week to contact me and it was obviously not a priority for them.” Although mountain lion attacks on humans are extremely rare, they are not unheard of. Earlier this week in Santa Clara County a 6-year-old girl suffered minor injuries from an attack. Born Reginald Kenneth Dwight in England, Elton John (who turns 73 on March 24) has become one of the most beloved and popular singers of all time. QUIZ: Which Elton John song was a dedication to the memory of Britain’s late Princess Diana (Princess of Wales)?

THE $2.00 BILL I TRIED TO SPEND

I think we need to quit saving our $2 bills and bring them out in public. The younger generation doesn't even know they exist!

STORY: On my way home from work, I stopped at Taco Bell for a quick bite to eat. I have a $50 bill and a $2 bill. I figure with the $2 bill, I can get something to eat and not have to worry about irritating anyone for trying to break a $50 bill. Me: 'Hi, I'd like one seven-layer burrito please, to go.' Server: 'That'll be $1.04. Eat in?' Me: 'No, it's to go.' At this point, I open my billfold and hand him the $2 bill. He looks at it kind of funny.

Server: 'Uh, hang on a sec, I'll be right back.'

He goes to talk to his manager, who is still within my earshot. The following conversation occurs between the two of them: Server: 'Hey, you ever see a $2 bill?' Manager: 'No. A what?' Server: 'A $2 bill. This guy just gave

No membership card is needed for this unbelievable event titled “The Heart of Rock & Roll.” Seating is on a “first-come, first served” basis. For additional information, call Pala at (877) 946-7252. QUIZ: Which Huey Lewis and the News hit single was in the popular film “Back to the Future” part one? A. The Power of Love. B. While We’re Young. C. Heart of Rock and Roll.

Correct answer is “A” for “The Power of Love.” Both hit singles “The Power of Love” and “Back In Time” were featured in the popular cult film, “Back to the Future” part one, starring Michael J. Fox. Trivia fact is that Huey Lewis made a cameo appearance in Back to the Future (part one) as a faculty member who, ironically, rejects his own song “The Power of Love,” by Marty McFly’s band (Michael J. Fox) during a school audition. Michael J. Fox’s movie character (Marty McFly) attempts to play a heavy metal version of the song The Power of Love but Huey Lewis stops them by saying through a bullhorn: “Hold it, fellas . . . I’m afraid you’re just too darn loud.” In reality, The Power of Love became an Academy Award nominated song and one of the most popular songs of all time! Incredibly, this spectacular tribute concert to Huey Lewis and the News is FREE to the general public (with no Privilege Card membership required), so don’t miss this historic tribute concert. it to me...' Manager: 'Ask for something else. There's no such thing as a $2 bill.' Server: 'Yeah, thought so.' He comes back to me and says, 'We don't take these. Do you have anything else?' Me: 'Just this fifty. You don't take $2 bills? Why? Server: 'I don't know.' Me: 'See here where it says legal tender?' Server: 'Yeah.' Me: 'So, why won't you take it?' Server: 'Well, hang on a sec.' He goes back to his manager, who has been watching me like I'm a shoplifter, and says to him, 'He says I have to take it.' Manager: 'Doesn't he have anything else?' Server: 'Yeah, a fifty. I'll get it and you can open the safe and get change. Manager: 'I'm not opening the safe with him in here.' Server: 'What should I do?' Manager: 'Tell him to come back later when he has real money.' Server: 'I can't tell him that! You tell him.' Manager: 'Just tell him.' Server: 'No way! This is weird. I'm going in back.

The manager approaches me and says, 'I'm sorry, but we don't take big bills this time of night.' Me: 'It's only seven o'clock! Well then, here's a two dollar bill.' Manager: 'We don't take those, either.' Me: 'Why not?' Manager: 'I think you know why.' Me: 'No really, tell me why.' Manager: 'Please leave before I call mall security.' Me: 'Excuse me?' Manager: 'Please leave before I call mall security.' Me: 'What on earth for?' Manager: 'Please, sir.' Me: 'Uh, go ahead, call them.' Manager: 'Would you please just leave?' Me: 'No.' Manager: 'Fine -- have it your way then.' Me: 'Hey, that's Burger King, isn't it?'

At this point, he backs away from me and calls mall security on the phone around the corner. I have two people staring at me from the dining area, and I begin laughing out loud, just for effect. A few minutes later this 45-yearoldish guy comes in.

Guard: 'Yeah, Mike, what's up?' Manager (whispering): 'This guy is trying to give me some (pause) funny money.' Guard: 'No kidding! What?' Manager: 'Get this. A two dollar bill.' Guard (incredulous): 'Why would a guy fake a two dollar bill?'

Spay Day in the Capitol

The last Tuesday in February is World Spay Day, an international effort originally started by the Doris Day Animal League in 1995. To mark the day, I joined some legislative colleagues on the Capitol lawn, with representatives from animal rescue groups and shelters throughout California, including Dr. Gary Weitzman of the San Diego Humane Society, to help increase public awareness about the importance of spaying and neutering our pets. Last year, the San Diego Humane Society performed nearly 20,000 spay/neuter surgeries. This simple operation has a tremendous beneficial impact on the lives of our pets and their human families. In addition to decreasing the numbers of stray and unwanted animals, pet lifespans are increased, the threat of cancer decreases, animals are less likely to roam, meaning fewer get lost or hit by cars, or wind up being attacked by coyotes. Spaying/neutering can also make animals more trainable. The long list of benefits can also include fewer/lower vet bills for owners. As a trained Project Wildlife Native Songbird rehabilitator, I have long advocated protecting pets and

wildlife. I have authored and coauthored a long list of bills benefitting pets and native wildlife, including legislation creating a voluntary fund supporting rehabilitation of injured and sick wildlife, to prevent the sale of wild horses to slaughterhouses, to find permanent homes for research animals, and many more.

Since more than 100,000 animals are euthanized in California each year, the Governor is requesting $50 million in this year’s budget to start a grant program that will provide animal shelters with the training and resources necessary to become “no-kill” shelters. By taking these steps, California will become a national leader in the effort to cut down pet overpopulation and save the lives of thousands of adoptable animals. Assembly Republican Leader Marie Waldron, R-Escondido, represents the 75th Assembly District in the California Legislature, which includes the communities of Bonsall, Escondido, Fallbrook, Hidden Meadows, Pala, Palomar Mountain, Pauma Valley, Rainbow, San Marcos, Temecula, Valley Center and Vista.

Historically Speaking by Tom Morrow

The Utah Inventor Unknown to TV Viewers

Who would have thought pictures and sound could flow through the air and into a box sitting in our front room. Today, we take television for granted. While no one single inventor developed the “idea” of television, it was Philo T. Farnsworth, a Mormon high school student from Provo, Utah who put it all together.

Farnsworth made many contributions crucial to the early development of television as we know it today. In 1927 he developed the first fully functional, all-electronic transmitter and receiver.

Born Aug. 19, 1906, Farnsworth was a quick study in mechanical and electrical technology. In 1923, when he was 17, his family moved from a farm to Provo, Utah. A year later, he applied to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. He received the nation's second-highest score on military academy recruiting tests, but when he learned the government would own all of his patents if he stayed in the service, Farnsworth returned to Provo and enrolled at Brigham Young University.

Farnsworth became acquainted with Leslie Gorrell and George Everson, a pair of San Francisco philanthropists. They agreed to fund Farnsworth’s early television research with an initial $6,000 in backing, allowing him to set up a laboratory for his experiments in Los Angeles. A few months after arriving in California, an attorney advised Farnsworth to apply for design patents, a decision which proved crucial in future legal disputes with the Radio Corporation of America (RCA).

Other inventors were at work on the concept of TV, but Farnsworth recognized the limitations of a mechanical system and developed an all-electronic scanning system that would produce a superior image for transmission to a receiving device. On Sept. 7, 1927, Farnsworth's basic “camera” tube transmitted the first image to a receiver in another room at his San Francisco laboratory.

A number of inventors previously had built “electro-mechanical” television systems, but Farnsworth designed and built the world's first complete working TV system, employing electronic scanning in both the pickup and display devices. It wasn’t until 1934, when Farnsworth first demonstrated his system to the public.

Earlier, in 1931, David Sarnoff of RCA of potential the recognized Farnsworth’s concept and offered to buy his patents with the stipulation he become an employee of RCA, but Farnsworth refused the offer. Instead, Farnsworth joined the Philco company

in Philadelphia. RCA would later file a lawsuit against Farnsworth, claiming an earlier 1923 patent had priority over his design, despite the fact RCA could present no evidence to their claim. Accordingly, the U.S. Patent Office rendered a 1934, decision awarding priority of the invention of the camera to Farnsworth. RCA lost a subsequent appeal, but controversial and costly litigation over a variety of issues continued for several years. Sarnoff finally agreeing to pay Farnsworth royalties due him. Traveling to Europe in 1936, Farnsworth secured an agreement with a Germany electronics firm. Farnsworth’s image cameras were used to telecast portions of the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games. A long-forgotten piece of history: Adolf Hitler was the world’s first televised personality when the dictator opened the Olympics, even though only a few primitive receivers nearby the stadium could watch the televised games transmitted with Farnsworth’s equipment -- nonetheless it happened.

Back in the U.S., Farnsworth regularly began transmitting experimental programs. During this time he also invented a “fog-penetrating electronic beam” for ships and airplanes – a primitive form of radar.

In 1938, he established the Farnsworth Television and Radio Corporation in Fort Wayne, Ind. In September 1939, after a more than decade-long legal battle, RCA finally conceded to a multi-year licensing agreement concerning Farnsworth's 1927 patent, settling for $1 million. After showcasing Farnsworth electronic marvel at the 1939 World Fair in New York, RCA was free to sell Farnsworth’s television cameras. But the outbreak of World War II delayed further development of television until 1945. By 1948, there were hundreds of TV sets across the nation receiving programming from RCA’s National Broadcasting Co. (NBC), plus the Dumont and Westinghouse networks. Soon after, CBS and ABC joined in. By 1952, the Federal Communications Commission had licensed more than 100 TV stations, mostly in major cities. In 1947, KTLA, Channel 5, in Los Angeles was the first TV station to go on the air west of the Mississippi. In his later years, Farnsworth became an alcoholic and as a consequence he became seriously ill with pneumonia, and died on March 11, 1971. But, he wasn’t forgotten. In 1984, Farnsworth was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame. When he died, Farnsworth held some 300 U.S. and foreign patents. His inventions contributed to the development of radar, infra-red night vision devices, the electron microscope, the baby incubator, the gastroscope, and an astronomical telescope.

In 1999, Time magazine named Farnsworth one of the "Time 100: The Most Important People of the 20th Century.” Today, Farnsworth’s statue, along with that of President Ronald Reagan, represents California in Statuary Hall of the U.S. Capitol’s National Collection. (Each state is allowed two statues of its prominent citizens). Before his death Farnsworth predicted television would someday be developed to the point it would send and receive perfect, “high definition” images – something we enjoy today,

Security Guard walks over to me and... Guard: 'Mike here tells me you have some fake bills you're trying to use.' Me: 'Uh, no.' Guard: 'Lemme see 'em.' Me: 'Why?' Guard: 'Do you want me to get the cops in here?' At this point I'm ready to say, 'Sure, please!' but I want to eat, so I say, 'I'm just trying to buy a burrito and pay for it with this two dollar bill.’ I put the bill up near his face, and he flinches like I'm taking a swing at him. He takes the bill, turns it over a few times in his hands, and he says, 'Hey, Mike, what's wrong with this bill?' Manager: 'It's fake.' Guard: 'It doesn't look fake to me.'

Manager: 'But it's a two dollar bill.' Guard: 'Yeah? ' Manager: 'Well, there's no such thing, is there?'

The security guard and I both look at him like he's an idiot and it dawns on the guy that he has no clue and is an idiot.

So, it turns out that my burrito was free, and he threw in a small drink and some of those cinnamon thingies, too.

Made me want to get a whole stack of two dollar bills just to see what happens when I try to buy stuff.

Just think... those two are of the age to be voting! •••• The wife came home early and found her husband in their bedroom making love to a very attractive young woman. And she was upset. “'You are a disrespectful pig!' she cried. 'How dare you do this to me - a faithful wife, the mother of your children! I'm leaving you. I want a divorce right away!'

And the husband replied, 'Hang on just a minute love, so at least I can tell you what happened.'

'Go ahead,' she sobbed,' but they'll be the last words you'll say to me!'

The husband began -- 'Well, I was getting into the car to drive home, and this young lady here asked me

for a lift. She looked so down and out and defenseless that I took pity on her and let her into the car.

I noticed that she was very thin, not well dressed and very dirty. She told me that she hadn't eaten for three days.

So, in my compassion, I brought her home and warmed up the enchiladas I made for you last night, the ones you wouldn't eat because you're afraid you'll put on weight. The poor thing devoured them in moments.

Since she needed a good clean-up, I suggested a shower, and while she was doing that, I noticed her clothes were dirty and full of holes, so I threw them away. Then, as she needed clothes, I gave her the designer jeans that you have had for a few years, but don't wear because you say they are too tight. I also gave her the underwear that was your anniversary present, which you don't wear because I don't have good taste.

I found the sexy blouse my sister gave you for Christmas that you don't wear just to annoy her, and I also donated those boots you bought at the expensive boutique and don't wear because someone at work has a pair the same.'

Kiwi is a 3-year-old cat looking for a new home. She is a sweet, shy little lady who would like to be your only fur baby. She wants to be the apple of your eye! Kiwi takes a little time to get used to new people, but once she blossoms, she is a loving companion! She also loves treats, so a tasty snack will help her warm up. Come visit our Escondido Campus to see if Kiwi is the right kitty for you. Her adoption fee includes her spay, current vaccinations, permanent microchip identification, a certificate for a free veterinary exam and waived enrollment fee for medical insurance from PetFirst. Kiwi is available for adoption at San Diego Humane Society’s Escondido Campus at 3500 Burnet Drive. To learn more about making her part of your family, please call (619) 2997012.

Planting and keeping a garden can be very rewarding, especially if the soil is rich in growth material and nutrients. Unfortunately, much of the soil today is depleted of these resources, because of the failure to replenish the fertility, out of ignorance or carelessness. Also, different crops require particular nutrients to get the maximum results. In the Escondido area, we are constantly working to balance the soil, because of both the acidic and/or alkaline content. To know the right balance takes soil testing, either with a home kit or through a laboratory doing it. More recently, we have been made aware of the deficiencies of other minerals, such as zinc and iron, which affects the value of the plants we raise. Most gardeners don’t become involved with replacing these, because of time and study. However, it is

While it might be difficult to imagine, we human beings are like the soil. After all, we are of the earth. God said to Adam, “For you are dust and you will return to dust.” However, we are different, because we are also spiritual creatures. It is this side of us that determines our level of peace, happiness, and productivity. If we are deficient in some aspect of our spirituality, we lose our productivity. Jesus cautions us with the possibility of losing the soul, by becoming consumed with the world. Evidence of this is when we lose the ability to love, be honest, caring, generous, and become indifferent to others. Our soul becomes deficient. We can replenish the spiritual content with prayer, meditation, worship, and spiritual fellowship. This will help overcome the spiritual deficiencies we acquire, because of stress, anxiety, worry, and worldly cares. It is no less essential to rebuild, renew, and replenish our spirituality than to give our garden soil what is needed for the best productivity and performance. Soil, like we human beings, respond the best with the best total care. Be a good gardener to the self and choose the best total care.

A Weekly Message from the Mayor of Your Community published in the belief that it is important for elected leaders to communicate with their constituents and that constituents have a means of hearing from their elected leaders.

San Marcos • Mayor Rebecca Jones

Share your vision for the future of San Marcos

The City of San Marcos is embarking on a General Plan Update, and we want your input to help shape the future of our City.

The General Plan serves as the guiding document for achieving the community’s vision for the future. The General Plan Update process will provide residents and businesses the opportunity to provide input regarding the direction of the City going forward.

We invite you to join us at three upcoming Visioning Workshops. Workshop #1 on March 11 will focus on values, vision and opportunities. Workshop #2 on March 25 will focus on land use and housing. Workshop #3 on April 9 will focus on circulation and mobility. We also welcome you to check in at pop-up events throughout the City. Visit www.sanmarcos.generalplan.org for details.

Escondido • Mayor Paul “Mac” Mcnamara Greetings Escondido,

By the time this is published the primary election will be over. And as in every election some will win and others will lose. So, I would like to share a few thoughts. First, I think it’s important to remember, especially if your candidate lost, that we are fortunate to have a process that allows the voters to decide.

The system requires that the candidates make a case to the voting public why they should be selected. To those who are more engaged in the process, they may have insights into the candidates that others do not, and so their disappointment may be higher if their candidate loses. But at the end of the day, it’s up to the candidate and the associated team to convince the voters. If they do then they win, and if not, they don’t. It’s really that simple.

Sometimes people will comfort themselves by thinking there is some sort of back door deal or conspiracy going on but that is not the case. So, when we get the results lets rally around the winners and support them for the next round. At the end of the day, they are all of our representatives and we want them to be successful. Semper Fi, Mac Paul P. McNamara, Mayor of Escondido pmcnamara@escondido.org

It’s Time. Change Your Batteries

Daylight Savings Time begins on Sunday, March 8, and it’s a good time to check home smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms when resetting the clocks. Vista Fire Chief Ned Vander Pol reports a fire doubles in size every 30 seconds and our Vista firefighters have seen this first hand when responding to a fire. The Chief says the sound of an alarm may provide those few extra seconds to get your family and yourself out of the house alive. Checking these detectors and alarms and changing the battery are one of the simplest things you can do to protect your family. As you go through the semi-annual ritual of adjusting your clocks, make it a habit to check your smoke alarms and to change the batteries. If you want more information, our Fire Prevention Bureau is a valuable resource at 760.643.2801 or online at CityofVista.com. Vista Fire can provide fire safety tips to share with your family. Stay safe and enjoy the longer days!

Fear, Sin and Uncertainties

It happens every few years that a series of events or some single event will push Americans into a collective blue funk. Some recent examples of such events are, theY2K/dot-com bubble in 19992000, The World Trade Center disaster in 2001 and the stock market collapse in 2008-09. Major negative events like these shake our confidence and raise questions in our minds about the future. We are plagued by vague doubts and fears. We tend to “hunker down.” We feel less like celebrating, shopping or traveling. We get more conservative in our spending and spend more time just staying home. We

Welcome to our awareness campaign featuring San Diego chorus member Sammy K. He has enjoyed being a member since 2014 and is an avid singer, regular talent show performer and a very humorous fellow. Did you know that out of approximately 60,000 Americans diagnosed with PD each year, men are 1.5 times more likely to have Parkinson's disease than women?1 We want to continue to raise awareness about the vocal benefits of the Tremble Clefs® San Diego therapeutic singing program that is available free to those living with Parkinson's and their care partners.

Ronald McDonald House Charities® of San Diego Received 100 Tempur-pedic Beds - Providing much needed comfort to families with a hospitalized child, TempurPedic is donating 100 mattresses, foundations and bedframes valued at over $100,000 to San Diego’s Ronald McDonald House for use in all of the charity’s overnight guest rooms. More than 60 volunteers removed existing beds from the organization’s 56 overnight guestrooms and simultaneously upgraded with 100 Tempur-Pedic mattresses, foundations and bedframes for family members who have a child or sibling in the hospital. A local donor provided all new bedding and pillows to round out the massive guest room re-supply project. “Providing families with a comfortable place to stay gives them the chance to stay close and provide support to their hospitalized child,” said Chuck Day, president and CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego. “We are grateful to receive this generous donation from Tempur-Pedic to enhance our accommodations and help us create an emotional and physical sanctu-

We are in one of those times now. Our business customers tell us February has been eerily quiet. Restaurant and retail sales are in decline. Casinos and other crowd events just beginning to feel the pinch. In recent weeks we’ve been treated to an unending string of unsettling news. The impeachment fiasco, the bitter feuding among presidential hopefuls and the incessant drumbeat of negativity heaped on even the smallest actions taken by the current administration have created a generalized malaise among Americans. And now in the past few weeks, we’ve stirred into this miserable stew the news of the Corona virus and associated plummet of Wall Street equity markets. It’s been a perfect storm of depressing news and the media keeps heaping it on. So how bad are things, really? It’s an election year and it seems that our national political party leaders have become convinced that polarizing us to the extent that we despise and disrespect one another as individuals will help them get elected. We don’t buy it. Our friends and relatives, our church members, customers and business associates are of all possible political persuasions. We don’t need to ary for the families we serve.” TempurPedic has been a proud donor of Ronald McDonald House Charities since 2009. Through their partnership with RMHC Global, Tempur-Pedic provides support to U.S. House and Family Room programs with the donation of beds, frames, foundations and mattress protectors. Every Fall/Winter Chapters from across the country are able to submit their list of needs and Tempur-Pedic works throughout the year to fulfill all orders. Nearly 3,500 units of Tempur-Pedic product will be donated this year alone, which excludes 1,600 mattress protectors, providing much needed budget-relieving support to Chapters that they can redirect the cost savings to other needs.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego provides a wide range of services – including lodging, meals and emotional support – to families who have a critically ill or injured child being treated at a San Diego-area hospital. Each year, the House provides more than 20,000 nights of lodging to families. Founded in 1980, Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego provides a “home-away-from-home,” which keeps families close to one another and the care they need when their child is being treated for serious, often life-threatening conditions at local hospitals. San Diego’s Ronald McDonald House was specifically designed to provide the necessities of home – including 56 guest suites, family kitchen and a children’s play area – to help strengthen families and bolster their psychological well-being during difficult times regardless of their situation or ability to pay.  The Ronald McDonald House creates an emotional and physical sanctuary for nearly 15,000 family members each year. adopt their politics in order to appreciate their intelligence, humor and humanity. Our enmity focuses on the politicians who seek to divide us and break the strong ties that bind us. Shame on them, don’t let them separate us.

The Corona Virus is real and the tumbling equities markets are disturbing for the many who are counting on these assets for retirement or any other reason. Whether the virus becomes a world-wide pandemic of biblical proportions or simply fades into history as another overblown scare is not only uncertain but totally beyond my control and your control. So is the fate of your 401K. The supply chain interruptions caused by Corona will either cause a major hiccup in world trade or it won’t. Nothing you or I can do will affect the outcome. At present Corona appears to be a rather wimpy disease. Even the worst case scenario doesn’t really seem that horrible when compared to the great plagues of the middle ages or the World-wide flu epidemic of 191819. No matter what happens we will do the best we can and it will eventually appear in our rear view

mirror no matter what you or I do. Our queasy feelings and doubts about the future and the threat of uncertainties are simply expressions of our fear of the unknown. Many years ago my friend and Pastor, Sam Brumit, explained to me that for a person of faith, fear must be considered sin. Fear of the unknown or uncertainty is simply a lack of faith, and that lack of faith, is sin. That was an empowering revelation to me. Certainly that does not excuse us from doing everything in our power to preserve ourselves and one another from troubles. Those who are not bulwarked by faith might consider the wisdom of the AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) serenity plea without invoking God. “Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.” We need not allow ourselves to be divided and we should not huddle in fear of the unknown. In the immortal words of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow “Let us, then, be up and doing, with a heart for any fate; still achieving, still pursuing, learn to labor and to wait.”
