Effects of Bitcoin and Crypto-currency on Global Financial and Political Stability by Mark L. Dwayne

F

inancial stability and political stability go hand-in-hand. Venezuela is a good example of rampant inflation, the highest in the world, and how people are using Bitcoin and crypto-currency to survive. In Venezuela, citizens are mining Bitcoin to generate income. Humanitarians are donating using Bitcoin to help buy food and medicine, more Venezuela companies are now accepting Bitcoin, and Bitcoin is being used to buy Amazon gift cards to purchase goods. For Venezuela, Bitcoin has become a lifesaving tool for survival. Last year India recalled 85 percent of its bank notes to collect “taxes.” Many Indians no longer trust the currency or the banks and are buying Bitcoin and other

crypto-currency. People in Cyprus woke up one morning in 2013 to find the government took 10 percent out of their bank accounts as a “tax.” Zimbabwe’s currency is no longer even in use. Citizens must use U.S. dollars or other legally accepted foreign currency within the country. Because Bitcoin cannot be counterfeited or manufactured at will, or controlled by a government, it could easily provide an alternative world currency to hedge against fiat currency abuse and inflation. In addition, there are those that suggest that Bitcoin and crypto-currency may provide an opportunity for a more level economic playing field, access to banking and global trade that could include the third world economies.

In his article Peace and Stability Through Blockchain: Global Political Awakening and Peace through Trade published on CCN.com in April 2016, Justin O’Connell writes, “Thus far in the blockchain experiment, we’ve seen use cases for how it can be used. As the strongest use case so far, Bitcoin represents a formidable example of how trade and finance can be streamlined, and the unbanked banked. There are still various other examples in which individuals believe blockchain technology can usher in a more peaceful society. While Bitcoin could do wonders for the unbanked and underbanked, it could do the same in other areas, like humanitarian aid, electric vehicles and welfare.” Bitcoin has some similarities to gold and provides a useable analogy to explain the probable evolution of this phenomenon. Like gold, Bitcoin behaves like a commodity, a store of value and a currency at the same time. Gold is traded as a commodity on global markets; used as a store of value to hedge against the stock market, and has been used as a currency. Those basic categories apply to Bitcoin as well, though the analogy is not a complete parallel. Bitcoin is predominantly expressed currently as a traded commodity. As such it is in its “gold-rush” days as it is being discovered. The term “mining” is even used to describe how Bitcoin comes into existence and its transactions processed. As it likely evolves into a “store of value”, ownership numbers will increase, and the volatility and the parabolic price curve will flatten. It may then evolve into more prevalent use as a currency in five to 10 years. Like gold, it may also express in all three articulations simultaneously. We will see what place Bitcoin and crypto-currency will play in global economics and how its unique benefits are applied and affect global financial and political stability as it proceeds on this evolutionary path. A Swiss study gave volunteers $25 a week for four weeks, and told half of them to spend the money on themselves and the others to spend it to benefit others. Subsequent brain scans revealed a link between the altruistic acts and feelings of contentment, activating neurons in the ventral striatum associated with happiness. Even the intention alone to be more generous was enough to create these changes, and the amount spent did not influence the increase in levels of well-being. The discovery sheds fresh light on why many people feel gratified when giving, even when it costs them something.

Mercury/Autism Brain Research Alert As the debate rages between health officials and vaccine critics about possible links to autism, mercury seems to be a specific bone of contention. It has long been present in the form of thimerisol, a preservative that inhibits bacterial contamination. Under government pressure, amounts have been reduced by the pharmaceutical industry to trace levels or eliminated, except in commonly recommended flu vaccines, some of which contain the food emulsifier polysorbate 80, which disrupts the blood-brain barrier and helps create an extremely effective delivery system for escorting neurotoxic ethylmercury and other heavy metals straight to the brain. The U.S. National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences reports that ethylmercury, in particular, gets metabolized into even more toxic inorganic mercury and remains in the brain for years.

Sugar Linked to Depression The journal Scientific Reports recently published a study that confirmed a link between a diet high in sugar and common mental disorders. In 2002, researchers from Baylor College found that higher rates of refined sugar consumption were associated with higher rates of depression. A 2015 study that included nearly 70,000 women found a higher likelihood of depression in those with high added sugar intake, but not in those with a high intake of naturally occurring sugars such as those found in fruit. The World Health Organization recommends that people reduce their daily intake of added sugars to less than 5 percent of their total energy intake; Americans typically consume three times that much. Meanwhile, one in six people worldwide suffers from a common mental problem such as a mood or anxiety disorder.

Is Your Mattress The Problem?

How to get a good night's sleep, without harmful chemicals

T

ake this quiz: 1. Do you have back pain when you wake up? 2. Neck pain? Stiffness or soreness? 3. Does it take you more than 30 minutes to fall asleep? 4. Do you experience restless sleep? Toss and turn at night? If you answered “yes” two times or more, this may be the most important article you read all year. Here’s why… While you sleep, your immune system recovers and prepares for the day ahead. It replenishes every cell in your body. Low-quality, uncomfortable mattresses have been linked to discomfort and pain, which can prevent quality sleep. People who struggle with sleep deprivation may suffer from irritability, depression, over-eating—and even face a higher risk for Alzheimer’s. If your mattress is filled with chemical toxins, airborne allergens, or worse, your body is doing battle with those things rather than repairing itself. You’re losing valuable energy each night instead of healing your body and revitalizing your mind. And all of that can wreak havoc on your health and well being.

What’s In Your Mattress? The following information may be

disturbing to some. That’s because the Environmental Protection Agency has identified at least four possibly dangerous chemicals commonly found in some synthetic mattresses—benzene, propane, naphthalene and styrene— especially bedding made in China and overseas, where such governing agencies do not exist. Consider these facts: ● Typical mattresses made from artificial materials are known to emit potentially harmful gases in your bedroom—a phenomenon known as off-gassing. ● Laboratory researchers in the U.S. and Europe have identified up to 61 potentially harmful chemicals that off- gas from typical synthetic mattresses. ● Exposure to these 61 chemicals has been associated with irritation of the skin, eyes and digestive systems. ● Additionally, the chemicals off-gassed by synthetic mattresses have been associated with headache, fatigue, depression and even hearing loss. ● Your skin, the most porous entry point into your body, has contact with a mattress for 8 hours every night, on average. ● Children, who breathe faster than adults, are especially vulnerable to chemical exposure. Every night, we lie down with minimal clothing for a seemingly good night’s sleep. But in reality, while lying on a conventional mattress, we are breathing in and absorbing through our

skin a range of chemicals from synthetic materials—chemicals that can disrupt our sleep cycles and negatively impact our health. Our mattresses emit gases from a toxic brew of components used to cre- ate them. From the polyurethane foam used in the padding to fire retardants and other additives, conventional mattresses continue to release chemicals in gaseous form long after they roll out of the factory. Even after they have finished off-gassing, the chemically based construction of a conventional mattress provides an ideal environment for dust and dust mites, whose excrement is the #1 trigger for asthma attacks. And get this. You know those white labels on a mattress that say, “Do Not Remove”? Incredibly, the law actually allows manufacturers to include potentially hazardous chemicals in your mattress without disclosing the fact on any label. But if a true list of ingredients were available for conventional mattresses, it would likely include TDI (a common component), a known carcinogen, which can cause respiratory ailments such as bronchitis and asthma. In addition, liver damage and breathing problems have been linked to vinyl chloride monomers, another common mattress material. The list goes on. Unfortunately, it is highly unlikely that you would be given information about any of these chemicals from a manufacturer of conventional, synthetic mattresses.

The Natural Alternative

One of the most significant actions we can take to reduce our exposure to toxins and improve our overall health is to make changes to the one household item that is in direct contact with our bodies for one third of our lives—our mattresses. “There are more ways than ever to sleep better and wake up pain-free on a natural, organic mattress,” says Pablo Hernandez, president of Mattress Makers, in San Diego, CA. “Many people, like me, are in search of a natural sleep system. I was shocked to learn that toxic emissions from mattresses are a major source of daily pollution in our lives,” says Hernandez.

ADVERTORIAL An all-natural, organic mattress is free of potentially harmful chemicals. Instead, natural materials like natural rubber are used. Rubber is naturally hypoallergenic and resistant to dust mites, making it ideal for allergy sufferers. Also, natural rubber is antimicrobial, inhibiting the growth of bacteria, mold and mildew, which can cause asthma and respiratory distress. No synthetic materials are added to provide these benefits. Ò All rubber used in our natural mattresses is from the sap of a rubber tree, which can yield rubber for up to 30 years. When a tree is done producing rubber, it is taken down and turned into furniture. A new tree is then planted in its place, thus making natural rubber a sustainable bedding component,Ó says Hernandez. WhatÕ s the difference between an organic mattress and a conventional one? Ò Organic mattresses are crafted from natural materials. Conventional mattresses are made mostly of artificial materials from nonrenewable sources, such as plastic and other petrochemicals,Ó says Hernandez. Do organic mattresses come in different firmness? Ò Yes, there are two main types of organic mattresses: Natural rubber and inner-spring. Both styles are available with varying firmness options to suit anyoneÕ s sleep needs,Ó says Hernandez.

What To Look For

When researching natural, organic mattresses, look at these areas: 1. Visit a store that carries mattresses made with either 100% all-natural latex or certified organic latex. Ò A lot of mattress companies market their mattresses as being all-natural but in reality either use a blended latex made with synthetics or just a little layer of latex combined with polyurethane foam,Ó says Hernandez. 2. Try out a new mattress for at least 15 minutes. Lie down in various positions, to simulate a night of sleep. Look for a store that offers a clean pillow to test out. Ò ItÕ s important to dress for the occasion. When mattress shopping itÕ s best to wear loose fitting clothes or something similar you would wear to bed to get a good idea of how the mattress responds in your sleep ware ,Ó says Hernandez.

1. Protect yourself by insisting on a 3. strong guarantee. Ò I know people are tired of sleeping on a worn-out, chemicalladen mattress. ThatÕ s why we give every customer a 180 night Wake Up Happy Comfort Guarantee to exchange if it doesnÕ t deliver the sleep you want,Ó says Hernandez. If youÕ re not sleeping well or youÕ re worried about toxic chemicals in your bedroom, consider this: The two things in life you spend the most time on are work and sleep. How much of your remaining hours on earth do you want to waste losing sleep on an uncomfortable, chemical-laden mattress? ThatÕ s a question that many are asking.

Cannabis is legal, so now what?

C

annabis became legal for adult use in California on November 9, 2016, and the much-anticipated rules and regulations surrounding sales become effective on January 1, 2018. But that doesn’t mean you can just run down to the corner and buy it. Only 25 percent of the cities in California are adopting regulations. Local licensing is required for a business to apply for a state license, leaving many businesses that have been operating for years in a precarious position. So, whether you want to use cannabis medicinally or purely for recreational purposes, this leaves 75 percent of the people—who voted for legalization—still unable to gain safe, reliable and professional access. Look for Robbin Lynn’s full article on this topic in next month’s issue. Copper

Natural device stops a cold before it starts

New research: Copper stops colds if used early.

N

ew research shows you can stop a cold in its tracks if you take one simple step with a new device when you first feel a cold coming on. Colds start when cold viruses get in your nose. Viruses multiply fast. If you don’t stop them early, they spread in your airways and cause misery. But scientists have found a quick way to stop a virus. Touch it with copper. Researchers at labs and universities worldwide agree — copper is “antimicrobial.” It kills microbes, such as viruses and bacteria, just by touch. Four thousand years ago ancient Greeks and Egyptians used copper to purify water and heal wounds. Now we know why it worked so well. Researchers say a tiny electric charge in microbe cells gets short-circuited by the high conductance of copper. This destroys the cell in seconds. Tests by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) show germs die fast on copper. So some hospitals switched to copper touch surfaces, like faucets and doorknobs. This cut the spread of MRSA and other illnesses by over half, and saved lives. The strong scientific evidence gave inventor Doug Cornell an idea. When he felt a cold coming on he fashioned a smooth copper probe and rubbed it gently in his nose for 60 seconds. “It worked!” he exclaimed. “The cold went away completely.” It worked

Some users say it also helps with sinuses. Attorney Donna Blight had a 2-day sinus headache. When her CopperZap arrived, she tried it. “I am shocked!” she said. “My head cleared, no more headache, no more congestion.” Some users say copper stops nighttime stuffiness if they use it just before bed. One man said, “Best sleep I’ve had in years.” Users also report success in stopping cold sores when used at the first sign of a tingle in the lip. One woman said, “I tried every product on the market over 20 years. Some helped a little, but this stopped it from happening in the first place.” The handle is sculptured to fit the hand and finely textured to improve contact. Tests show it kills harmful microbes on the fingers to help prevent the spread of illness.

again every time he felt a cold coming on. He reports he has never had a cold since. He asked relatives and friends to try it. They said it worked for them, too. So he patented CopperZap™ and put it on the market. Soon hundreds of people had tried it and given feedback. Nearly 100 percent said the copper stops their colds if used within 3 hours of the first sign. Even up to 2 days after the first sign, if they still get the cold it is milder and they feel better. Users wrote things like, “It stopped my cold right away,” and “Is it supposed to work that fast?” Pat McAllister, age 70, received one as a gift and called it “one of the best presents ever. This little jewel really works.” Sinus trouble, stuffiness, cold sores. People often use CopperZap Copper may even help stop flu if for prevention, before cold signs apused early and for several days. In a pear.
