Modular Home left Standing after Hurricane Sandy

The Modular Building Institute published "Improving Construction Efficiency and Productivity with Modular Construction" The Report states After Hurricane Andrew hit in 1992, Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Mitigation Assessment Team conducted a study of various building types and how well they weathered the storm. In their summary the Mitigation Assessment team concluded that "overall, relatively minimal structural damage was noted in modular housing developments. The module-to-module combination of the units appears to have provided an inherently rigid system that performed much better than conventional residential framing." FEMA Hurricane Andrew Report. FEMA has continually praised modular construction for sound workmanship dating all the way back to a report they issued back in 1993 about Hurricane Andrew hitting Florida. Building a Better Home!

Modular homes are green by their very nature. Assembly in an enclosed indoor environment allows them to fulfill some key components of green building certifications, including the ICC 700 National Green Building Standard. • Waste of material at the factory and the job site is reduced • Environmental impact on the land and the community where the house is being delivered is lessened • A tighter-built structure maximizes energy efficiency

Green Building

Energy Efficiency • Modular homes are often more tightly built and thus more energy efficient, which can result in lower heating and cooling costs for the home owner.

Quality Control • Building homes in a factory setting allows for more consistent quality due to uniform construction processes, training techniques and inspections. • All homes are inspected by an independent, third-party home inspection agency before leaving the factory. Once on site, they are again inspected, this time by a local building inspector.
