Megyn Kelly and her husband, Doug Brunt,, led Xander Parish the applause at the New York Philharmonic’s Spring Gala, a celebration of composer John Williams’’ iconic film scores. The Fox News star joked,“We crossed to the Dark Side,” after posing with Darth Vader . The engaging evening conducted by David Newman featured film clips from Star Wars, Jaws, Schindler’s List,, and my personal favorite, Born on the Fourth of July.. Special event chair and composer Karen LeFrak, who just had a composition of hers titled “Gentle Memories” added to the repertoire of the Mariinsky Ballet, greeted violinist Joshua Bell, Aby Rosen and Samantha Boardman, Didi and Oscar Schafer, Daisy Soros, Matthew Van Besien, and Hilaria and Alec Baldwin, who’s on the orchestra’s board and hosts their radio broadcasts. He said of his role, “I’m not a member of the Philharmonic; I feel like I’m the batboy on the Yankees.” John Williams says, “I’m enormously grateful people have embraced this music, and it’s brought them to orchestral music in the way that it has for many younger people. I don’t make a particular distinction between ‘high art’ and ‘low art.’ Music is there for everybody. It’s a river we can all put our cups into, and drink it, and be sustained by it.” The 84-year-old legend added, “You’re never anywhere near finished. So the idea of retiring or putting it aside is unthinkable. There’s too much to learn.” The Phil’s season runs through July 29. nyphil.org

Brooke Shields was first exposed to the New York Academy of Art during their infamous “Take Home A Nude” benefit. “I’ve always loved nudes,” the actress confessed. The relationship with the school continued to flourish because of her friendship with the noted painter Will Cotton, a senior critic there. Cotton painted portraits of Brooke and her children Rowan and Grier. On July 7 Brooke will open the Academy’s “Call of the Wild,” an exhibition at Art Southampton at Nova’s Ark in Bridgehampton themed around the animal kingdom that she cocurated with Kratz, the organization’s president. She says, “I’m so lucky that I keep David Kratz having different areas of creativity available to me; it’s always such a gift.” Nyaa.edu As to her future Brooke said “There’s much more to come.” This includes her new detective series Dearly Depotted on the Hallmark Channel. Art Southampton’s Nick Korniloff said, “We will also be presenting work from more than 70 international galleries.” art-southampton.com
