LetIT Snow It’s 72 degrees outside today,

and we here in South Florida couldn’t be more jazzed. After record heat for the past couple of months, it’s exciting to finally feel fall in the air, and just in time for the holidays. We’re sending this issue to the printer just in time, as well, so you’ll be reading this as Art Basel gets into full swing, along with the holiday shopping madness. So of course we had to address both. So much goes on during Basel Week that we’d need to devote an entire magazine to the events, exhibits, fairs and parties, still there are other publications in town that do just that. But there are a couple of exhibits we couldn’t help but bring to your attention, especially since they’ll be up and running through January. Get the details on Louis Vuitton’s “Objets Nomades” exhibition, a collection of gloriously luxe and beautiful foldable furniture and travel accessories, which will be on view at the Louis Vuitton store in the Miami Design District starting Dec. 3, as well as the Loewe Miami Design District store’s “Chance Encounters” exhibit, comprising work by four renowned British artists and installed around a breathtaking 18th-century granary building that Anderson had transported to Miami from a small town on the border between Galicia and Portugal. It’s not only engaging, it’s peaceful, and who couldn’t do without a moment’s peace right about now? Shopping, as we all know, is a necessary evil this time of year. So we decided this issue was as good as any to bring your our picks for the best websites to shop from the comfort of your home. 56

AVENTURA MAGAZINE

These have not just the best merchandise, but great prices, sales, shipping deals and more. Bonus: the perks are available all year, not just during the holidays—so bookmark ‘em even after you’ve picked out and purchased a few presents. Of course, in this 248-page issue, there’s plenty more, but those are two highlights to get you started. In these turbulent times, while we’re enjoying an international art fair and readying ourselves for shopping and holidays spent reveling with our loved ones, we keep in mind those everywhere whose greatest concerns have nothing to do with things like gifts, who haven’t seen and won’t see a celebration of any kind for many years, and hope that somehow, some way, this new year will finally be the one in which positive changes take place in the world. Cliché it may be, but it’s also truth: that would be the greatest gift of all, not just to those suffering but to the human race. Happy holidays & enjoy the issue.

Marcela Alma

Gio Alma

A former model and dentist, fashion stylist Marcela Alma is one of Miami’s fastest-rising stars. By age 12, hundreds of fashion sketches lined the walls of her bedroom, and many of those early designs materialized as pieces she sewed with fabric that her father would bring home from his Colombian textile empire, Coltejer. By age 14, she was styling and shopping for classmates. Currently, Marcela spends her days styling photo shoots, making TV appearances on Cosmopolitan TV and CNN en Español to dispense style tips, covering red carpets and curating wardrobes for television shows, personal shopping and harnessing the power of social media to share with other industry artists.

Miami-based celebrity and fashion photographer Gio Alma’s images have appeared in publications and advertising campaigns around the world. Winner of the 2014 Black & White Spider Awards-Fashion Category, Gio has had his photos published in Harper’s Bazaar, Cigar Aficionado, ELLE, InStyle, Cosmopolitan and People, among others. Famous faces he has photographed include Tommy Lee Jones, Roberto Cavalli, Gloria Estefan, Ricky Martin, Bill Paxton and Dwyane Wade. Gio is in love with life, his profession, his wife, fashion stylist Marcela Alma, and their children, son Luca and daughter Gia.

Respect the Dress IN DECEMBER, SLIP INTO AN LBD—OR ANY OTHER FROCK—TO JOIN THE FIGHT AGAINST THE TRAFFICKING AND EXPLOITATION OF WOMEN.

Beginning December 1, women all over the world are committing to wear a dress every day of the month—all 31 days—to fight human trafficking. An initiative of The Dressember Foundation, founded by Blythe Hill in 2012, “Dressember” aims to spread the message that the fight to end the trafficking and exploitation of women can be both feminine and forceful. “My hope for Dressember is that it empowers women to embrace their femininity while standing up for women whose dignity has been robbed of them through trafficking and other forms of exploitation,” says Hill. “People often underestimate the power of creative actions in sparking real change, but Dressember has done just that—it has changed lives. The movement really is bigger than a dress.” This year, Dressember has teamed up with brands like The Giving Keys, Noonday Collection, and Elegantees, with a portion of the proceeds going to International Justice Mission (IJM), the world’s largest international antislavery organization. Learn more at dressember.org.

INNOVATIVE STYLE FRENCH FURNITURE MANUFACTURER ROCHE BOBOIS HAS BUILT ITS FORMIDABLE REPUTATION ON STYLE, COMFORT AND INNOVATION. By John Buchanan

Q&A with US communications director Julien Bigan

90

AVENTURA MAGAZINE

Arguably the most exclusive and renowned furniture brand in the world, Paris-based Roche Bobois, which pioneered the concept of sleek, stylish contemporary home furnishings in the US in the 1980s, has steadily grown its presence in South Florida. As its flagship Coral Gables store continues to draw enthusiastic new customers after two decades, the 54-year-old company in May debuted a new, 4,500-square-foot store in Aventura. Roche Bobois offers exquisite furnishings for the living room, dining room and bedroom. The brand is known for highly functional

Q1:

Q2:

What makes Roche Bobois so unique?

Why is innovation so essential to the brand?

“One thing is our history. We were one of the first furniture companies in the world, and in the US in particular, to talk about contemporary design. For example, in the 1980s, especially in Miami, we were one of the first companies to start the trend toward contemporary furniture. But we are also known for three traditional values that define our brand. And they are comfort, quality and innovation. We never forget that.”

“Innovation is very important in the furniture industry. So it is something that we constantly talk about and work hard at. And one area of our innovation is the mechanisms we use in our products. For example, we offer a spectacular dining table we call Astrolab, which uses an electrical, clocklike mechanism to extend the table. And you can see the clock through the glass tabletop. That makes it a clearly unique piece of furniture. You will not see that kind of innovation anywhere else.”

yet beautiful designs that celebrate the best of French style and Art de Vivre. A dedicated team of designers works closely with customers to realize their unique creative visions for their homes. Roche Bobois, 19907 Biscayne Blvd., Aventura, 305.935.0035; roche-bobois.com.

Q3:

Q4:

What are key reasons that the brand has endured for so long?

What’s your most important “news” for customers these days?

“One factor is how we protect the exclusivity of our brand. We have opened more than 250 stores around the world, but they are Roche Bobois stores exclusively. We do not sell our furniture in any other stores besides our own. And that means that our brand is clearly kept separate in the minds of consumers. We are not the only brand to follow that strategy. But we are one of the few. And that kind of control is very important to us.”

“We have launched a completely new website. It is another example of our innovation. It is perhaps the first website in the furniture industry where you can just click on the sofa you are interested in and see it in different colors or with different legs. You can rotate the sofa to see how it looks from any angle. And you can do that with all of our products. That means a customer can experience our furniture before they come into our store.”

Q&A with general manager Brian Dascanio

Q1:

With so many car rental operators out there, why rent from 441/Toyota? “At 441, one of the things we always try to convey to people—and one of the reasons we’ve been so successful—is that we take the hassle out of the car rental experience. We offer nothing but clean, brand-new Toyotas, so there is no doubt about the type of vehicle you’re going to get. And over the years, we’ve found a way to streamline the paperwork process so we can be sensitive to our customers’ time. Most of the people who come to rent from us are busy, as everyone is today. And when you go to some of the big-name rental car companies at the airport or at one of their offices around town, a lot of the time it ends up being a headache.”

Q2:

HEAD OUT, HASSLE-FREE RENTING A CAR CAN OFTEN BE STRESSFUL. HOLLYWOOD’S LONG-RUNNING 441 AUTO RENTAL MAKES IT CONVENIENT AND SAVES CUSTOMERS MONEY. By John Buchanan

People rent cars for all sorts of reasons. But one frustration many customers share is that the experience is not always easy or cost-effective. 441 Auto Rental, based in Hollywood and owned by Toyota of Hollywood, has changed that equation dramatically. Launched in the early 1990s, the company is now a major force in the car rental business throughout Miami-Dade and Broward counties. It operates under the international Toyota Rent-A-Car brand. A number of South Florida Toyota dealers now operate rental businesses, says 441 general manager Brian Dascanio. “But we are the longest-running. What we set out to do was provide a hassle-free way for customers to rent clean, new Toyota vehicles from us. In addition to doing that, however, it was also a way to expose consumer to Toyota vehicles through a rental experience and create new car buying customers as a result.” Today, 441 is one of the largest retail renters of Toyota vehicles in the US. They rent all current models in the Toyota, Scion and ecofriendly Prius lines. Standard services include free pickups from anywhere in Miami-Dade or Broward counties. 441 Auto Rental, 3201 N. State Road 7, Hollywood, 954.985.6868, FloridaToyotaRental.com.

92

AVENTURA MAGAZINE

Photo: Carlos Hidalgo

What are some other advantages of renting from 441? “When you rent a vehicle from most of the big box operators, if you look at your contract you’re being charged a battery fee, a tire fee, a vehicle licensing fee. You’re being charged for things that you are actually unaware of as a consumer unless you really read that contract, which most people obviously don’t do. But when you rent from us, there are only two things you are charged for. Those are the 6 percent state tax, because we operate in Broward County, and the $2-a-day Florida surcharge. We do not charge any of those other add-on fees. That’s one of the things that really sets us apart, because it saves you money.”

Q3:

What else should prospective customers know about you? “As far as prices go, we are fortunate to be associated with one of the largest Toyota dealers on the East Coast. And that means there is no ‘middleman’ in our transactions. We get our cars directly from the factory and therefore we’re able to extend the cost savings we get, versus a third-party rental company that is an affiliate of a parent rental company, to the customer. And the volume of rentals that we do also gives us a pricing advantage. That means we are always able to be competitive with the big name operators. And when you realize the things we do not charge for, like the various fees most of the big guys charge, our net daily rate is lower. But we also sell convenience. That’s our formula. And it’s as simple as it sounds.”

MATCHMAKER, MAKE ME A MATCH

If you’re wondering where all the successful, desirable singles are, Elegant Introductions knows. Even in today’s high-tech dating world, successful singles can find it harder than ever to meet someone special. This doesn’t surprise Barbara Black Goldfarb and Nancy Gold, co-founders of Elegant Introductions. Best friends for more than 30 years, the professional matchmakers take a high-touch, low-tech approach with their clients. Nancy’s a licensed psychologist who’s been helping individuals and couples for more than 25 years, while Barbara has held leadership positions in some of the country’s most influential businesses and philanthropic organizations. With their combined skills, they give singles a 1-2 advantage that no online site can match. As Barbara says, “We work together, so we really get to know what our clients are looking for. We understand their past relationship history, as well as what worked for them and what didn’t.” They say that makes them much more effective than any computerized algorithm—and more fun, too. If you’re single, Jewish and tired of making reservations for one, call them at 305.615.1900 or visit jelegantintroductions.com.

TO BUY OR NOT TO BUY? If that’s the question, real estate attorney Renee Smith can help you find the answer. Contemplating home ownership in the new year? National expert and real estate attorney Renee Marie Smith answers some questions to help you decide if homeownership is the right move. • Do I have six months’ worth of cash reserves if I lose my income? No matter how inexpensively you buy the home, life can throw you a curveball. It is important to have enough reserves to give you time to make a long-term plan if your cash flow becomes a cash trickle.

UNTIL NOW, THAT IS: BOOKATAILOR IS NOW ALSO CAPTIVATING THE ATTENTION OF THE MOST DAPPER MIAMIANS. The latest craze in style-obsessed Miami involves a Smart Car and some very pricey threads. BookATailor is on the scene, selling high-end custom suits out of the back of a fleet of six Smart cars stationed around Downtown and Brickell. The biz on wheels has become a convenient shopping alternative for people like Wall Street financier Alex Burekhovic, who told the New York Post that he “plunks down” more than $12,000 on a couple of $500 summer blazers, eight regular blazers, two tuxes, a couple of suits, 10 shirts and a $1,200 winter coat from a stranger parked on the side of the road. A far cry from a fancy department store, the cars are spray-painted with promotional verbiage and sport a suitclad mannequin on top. And sales agents do fittings right on the street. After the client is measured, the order is sent to Thailand, with guaranteed delivery to the buyer’s home or to the company’s Brickell showroom within four weeks. Plus, the client’s name is sewn into the label of each suit. To get started on your own bespoke wardrobe, call 786.319.4422 or visit bookatailor.com.

• Will owning be less expensive than renting? Your rent on a two-bedroom, two-bath condo is $1,500, and to buy the same condominium with mortgage payments, taxes and association fees is $1,650. Is buying better? Most experts say yes, for two reasons. One, rent payments are not tax-deductible, while mortgage interest and property taxes are tax deductible. Two, rent payments do not produce a return on your investment, while homes appreciate in value. • Do you plan on living in the same place for five years or more? The amount of closing costs of buying a home often surprise first time home buyers. Don’t get lured by the large industry hyped by the media with sensational stories of “flipping” properties to make a profit. If you are inexperienced and buying your first property, be conservative. • Whom should I hire to help me? Finally, being inexperienced at buying a home is a good opportunity to work with people who specialize in real estate. Find a real estate attorney and agent with experience to help you. OLIVER GAL ARTIST CO. HAS A POP-UP SHOP IN WYNWOOD THROUGH THE END OF DECEMBER.

Sisters Lola Sánchez and Ana Sánchez Gal.

The Oliver Gal Artist Co. opened its new pop-up art shop in Wynwood on November 1st, but take note: it’s open through December 29th, so you can scoop up enough fun wall art to furnish any room you like—or the entire house. The brainchild of Miami-based sisters Lola Sánchez and Ana Sánchez Gal, the sisters and artists who founded the company, features original, limited-edition Oliver Gal pieces, including collaborative artwork created using mixed media techniques—many of which have never been seen before. “We wanted to launch an innovative movement within our local art market,” Lola says. “These are truly one-of-a-kind creations.” The sisters describe the team’s art as “industrial chic.” The pieces blend urban and abstract motifs, making them well-suited to contemporary spaces. “They are timeless pieces with a modern edge,” Lola says. Many of the pieces are limited-edition and exclusive to Oliver Gal. “Our artists use only the finest materials to bring their innovative visions to life,” Ana says. “Their work exudes unpretentious elegance, transforming blank walls into grand-scale, high-style canvases.”

How SwedeIs IT

BEHOLD THE 2016 VOLVO XC90 T6 INSCRIPTION. By Steve Siler

From the toothy grille to the understated luxury of the interiors to its “Thor’s Hammer” LED headlamps, everything about the Volvo XC90 is nothing you’re likely to expect.

The more prolific, author-types among you are surely wondering if it’s even possible for us to have come up with a more cliché title for a Volvo story. Meanwhile, the more aristocratic set might be wondering what a Volvo is doing in a luxury magazine like this in the first place. Alas, a play on Swede/sweet thing has never been more apropos than in the case of Volvo’s sensational new XC90 flagship SUV, and likewise, no Volvo has ever so deserved prime billing in the editorial pages of Aventura magazine. The XC90 is, in a word, sublime. From its toothy grille to its sculpted tail, outside and especially inside, the XC90 suggests that Volvo is a brand no longer content with nearluxe status and is going the full nine—or “90”—yards after the German SUVs that set the standard for luxury rides. That said, Volvo’s brand of luxury is not overt, à la Bentley or Cadillac. The styling is tailored, understated, accessorized just so. About the bravest thing on the exterior is its cool “Thor’s Hammer” LED headlamps and impossibly skinny LED taillamps bracketing the liftgate. Our Inscription test vehicle rode on a set of

large, 21-inch wheels that filled the wheel wells, but did not engorge them. Folks wanting to make more of a style statement can opt for the R-Design model, which brings 22-inch wheels and more expressive lower body addenda, but even with the sportier regalia, the XC90 is a decidedly dapper creature. The interior is at once stunningly elegant and distinctly Swedish. The seats are remarkably thin yet somehow contain pneumatically adjustable cushions and bolsters, heat/ventilation and utterly perfect contours. Infotainment and navigation features are displayed via a vertically oriented, portrait-style 9.0-inch touch screen that makes loads of ergonomic sense, given that’s how almost everyone in the civilized world views their smartphones. Open-pore wood trim wraps around the cabin, meeting in the middle in a herringbone pattern, while the butter-soft leather in our Inscription model rivals the last Bentley we tested. And what few knobs and switches are present are knurled and faceted, like jewels. This is a clean space, yet it’s fully equipped and elegantly appointed. Who but the Swedes could pull this off? Dynamically, the XC90’s default mode is calm subservience, but thumb the Drive Mode wheel to “Dynamic” and you may be surprised how fast a four-cylinder engine can 106

be. Thanks to the presence of a turbocharger and a supercharger, some 316 hp can be summoned by your right foot. On the other hand, should you want to take a load off during your evening commute, switch on the dynamic cruise control and let the car do the going and stopping for you. Below 30 mph, the Pilot Assist system even lets the XC90 steer autonomously by tracking the car in front of you and following its line, so long as it doesn’t steer off the road. In coming months, Volvo will supplant the lineup with a plug-in hybrid model with about 400 horsepower and about 20 miles of electric-only 108

range, so if, say, you’re on the list for the Tesla Model X and just can’t wait to drive electric, this may be an option. A better-looking, more attractively priced option at that. We look forward to this design language spreading across Volvo’s entire lineup of cars, which, incidentally, will grow to include a new S90 flagship sedan that will compete with the likes of the Audi A6 and BMW 5/6-series. You can bet that car will also grace the pages of Aventura when it comes out, at which point we may be using this headline once again.

has an infectious personality—in fact, she’s downright fun. But it’s not her jovial nature or even her supermodel-esque good looks that landed Alexander the lead role in NBC’s Blindspot, a drama-thriller whose premiere episode drew 10 million viewers. Alexander’s got acting chops. She first showcased her talents at the age of 25, in the Marvel Comic blockbuster Thor, playing the warrior Sif alongside Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman. The film grossed over $449 million. Even though she had played the lead role on the ABC Family TV series Kyle XY and had the occasional movie role, it was her turn as Sif that introduced her to a broader audience. Right now, though, it’s all about Jane Doe, her character in Blindspot, that’s capturing the imagination of millions of viewers who perch on the edge of their seats every Monday watching the twists and turns of the plot unfold. The season opener of Blindspot started with Jane Doe being found in the middle of Times Square by the FBI, in a bag, naked and covered with tattoos. To film the opening scene, they shut down Times Square—one of the busiest intersections in the world. “I went through about eight hours of hair and makeup for the tattoos,” Alexander says. “I went in at about 4 pm, we went through all of that, and we didn’t shoot really till 3 am, when Times Square was completely vacant.” This was in March, in the bitter cold, and there wasn’t a whole lot of time because Times Square had to be reopened. “I climbed in the bag and did that for a couple of hours, and we were done. They were very efficient—the crew—with getting it done as fast as they

122

could because it was cold, and, of course, we were pressed for time. The sun was gonna come up soon and they would have to reopen Times Square, you know, because everybody’s gotta get to work,” she says. It’s no accident Alexander is in this role—she’s earned it. But she didn’t graduate from an Ivy League school for actors; rather, she’s an alum of the school of hard knocks. “In seventh and eighth grade, I was in drama class, and I used to love it! It was like my favorite class to take,” she recalls. “Then when I got into high school, I went into drama, and I actually got kicked out because all they did were musicals. And I couldn’t sing; I didn’t know how to sing, I’ve never sung in my life. There was no way I was going to get a part in any of the extracurricular plays. At one point, there were college credits that we could get for doing certain things and I couldn’t do them. The teacher would not put me in any of these musicals. So I got kicked out, and I went into sports.” Alexander became a wrestler, but since the sport was dominated by males at her school, she started an all-women’s wrestling team. Growing up in a family of five in Grapevine, Texas, she was the only girl, and her younger brother was also a wrestler. Still, Alexander never gave up on acting. When in high school a friend of hers had to get her wisdom teeth pulled and fell ill from the medication, Alexander was asked by the friend’s mom to fill in. She went to the audition and was spotted by a famous talent manager who saw something

special in her; after graduation, she packed her bags and moved to Los Angeles. “I’ve never really had a big break; I think it’s been lots of little breaks that have led up to, you know, a pretty decent résumé,” she says today. “I’ve taken every baby step there is.” To wit: she got her foot in the door by starting out in student films, followed by commercial work, then went on to TV. “I got on Kyle XY in their second season, and then that was really fun.” But during the writers’ strike in 2007, when finding roles was more of a challenge than ever, instead of tapping into her savings, Alexander bartended on the side so she could continue to pursue acting. “I got Thor about three weeks after I started bartending,” she says, “and then again after Thor came out, I almost had to go back to bartending again. I don’t think anybody knows that.” She ended up changing her representation in order to help her find the roles she was looking for, which paid off: her next big break was acting in The Last Stand with Arnold Schwarzenegger. In a way, Alexander shares some characteristics of her alter ego: both she and Jane are strong, tenacious, resilient, and they think outside the box. And Alexander has a lot on her plate moving forward: she’s getting married to fellow actor Peter Facinelli, and she has a new movie in the works called London Fields. But at the moment, her focus is squarely on Blindspot. No doubt, no matter how many balls she’s got in the air at once, Alexander is bound to keep them going—and kick ass while doing it.

When he came to America, he remembered those who gave him money when he most needed it. Now, it’s his turn to give back. “I don’t like people who make money and don’t share it.”

As you enter the corporate headquarters of Perry Ellis International in Doral and make your way to the office of its Chairman of the Board and CEO, George Feldenkreis, a bewitching canvas of old Havana sets the stage for a fascinating chat. Feldenkreis, now 80, moved to Miami from Cuba in 1961 with his baby son, Oscar, a pregnant wife and only $700 in his pocket. Armed with a law degree from the University of Havana—he had wanted to be a prosecutor—and some fast experience as the comptroller of a Cuban construction company, he believed that Fidel Castro was abusing human rights and breaking down the free-enterprise system. And he wanted out. It didn’t take long for the bright and industrious entrepreneur to secure a new life in America importing items as varied as auto parts and apparel. Today, he heads Perry Ellis International, the apparel corporation with many parts and participants, including more than 2,600 employees with offices, stores and sourcing operations around the world. Annual global retail sales now reach nearly $3 billion.  But the Havana-born Feldenkreis never forgot his home country. “This piece of art is from 1996, and the scene is near where I grew up,” says Feldenkreis, standing before the engaging work of Cuban life that covers the wall outside of his office. “But after the Bay of Pigs, I could not go back. I have worked hard to build a business here, and I am proud to be an American.” In January, Feldenkreis will turn the top job of running Perry Ellis International over to Oscar, 50, who started working in apparel while he was still a student at North Miami Beach High School. Most recently, Oscar has been vice chairman, president and COO of the company. “Oscar is the best salesman you can get,” says Feldenkreis of his son, who spends 200 days a year on the road. “He visits his customers frequently and has fine taste in Perry Ellis International’s design studio. apparel.” Feldenkreis, who also employs his daughter, Fanny, as chief administrative officer to organize details and keep things up to date, quips, “It’s great to have my family here…we can all have lunch together!” But the elder, also a well-known and respected philanthropist, will remain as Executive Chairman, continuing to head talent selection, expansion, international development, acquisitions and decision-making. “I am not really retiring,” Feldenkreis explains. “I am just going to take some time to do other things, like maybe write a book of my life, continue giving back to the community, and enjoy the water with my 60-foot Sunseeker.”And instead of coming into the office every day, he may cut back to three days a week, and get the rest of his work done from the comfort of his Miami Beach home.

to grow organically and through smart acquisitions, which will boost their lifestyle brands. Especially important is expanding and improving their direct-to-consumer business, which they feel is already topnotch. “We are focused well and repositioned for the future,” posits Oscar. “Dad is excited and living in the moment. He is a young 80 who understands things. He has great grandkids and grandkids. And he has learned how the world has changed. He knows how that can be a benefit.” Meanwhile, Feldenkreis divides his business and leisure time, spending much of the latter giving back to the community. He remains active in numerous local charities, something he believes is necessary for a successful company like Perry Ellis International. As a child, he raised money for Israel. When he came to America, he remembered those who gave him money when he most needed it. Now, it’s his turn to give back. “I don’t like people who make money and don’t share it,” he says.  He supports the Hebrew Academy of Miami Beach where his kids went to school and the Greater Miami Jewish Federation where he has been a board member for more than three decades. He and his wife Mariita are members of the United Way’s Million Dollar Roundtable. And he also gives to University of Miami hospital and Jewish Community Center of North Miami’s new arts theater. (Oscar and Fanny have followed their father’s lead and support Miami charities and Jewish causes.)

Feldenkreis has been honored by dozens of organizations for his philanthropy, including the YMCA Fashion Scholarship Fund’s Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2015, he received the Rambam Award from the Rambam Health Care Campus in Haifa, Israel for his business and charity efforts. He also delivered a Distinguished Visiting Professor Lecture for students of Johnson & Wales University in Miami. And he has received an honorary Juris Doctorate from Babson College and an honorary Associate of Arts and Letters from Miami Dade College. And in his ninth decade, he keeps fit by working with a trainer who comes to his home three times a week. Remembering how he enjoyed the water as a child in Cuba, he loves to cruise around in his boat in the vicinity of Fisher Island. “Being around the water relaxes me,” says Feldenkreis. And yet, nothing can keep the proud entrepreneur away from work. “Dad will be here at the office when he wants,” says Oscar, who is married to Ellen and and has three daughters and three grandchildren. “I am blessed to be in this family organization. I started at the bottom and learned everything about the business. I am proud we are a healthy company and ripe to make acquisitions.” As for the elder Feldenkreis, on the topic of sharing decisionmaking tasks with his son, he says, “It should be fine. When we disagree on anything, we compromise. In the end, it’s all about being good human beings.”

“I am not really retiring. I am just going to take some time to do other things, like maybe write a book of my life, continue giving back to the community, and enjoy the water with my 60-foot Sunseeker.”

Eight years later, Oscar launched the company’s first major brand, Natural Issue, a line of casual shirts, sweaters and pants; it soared. Four years later, the company was generating a whopping $33 million in annual sales. Then, in 1993, Supreme completed an initial public offering on the NASDAQ, resulting in an infusion of cash (about $54 million) that allowed the company to execute a brand acquisition strategy. In 1996, they bought Munsingwear and Grand Slam brands. Three years later, they acquired John Henry and all rights to the Perry Ellis trademark. (Designer Ellis had died in 1986.) The men changed the company name from Supreme International to Perry Ellis International for better recognition. Their savvy decision was right on the money: large orders poured in. “The business skyrocketed,” says Feldenkreis. During the next few years, the company went on a shopping spree. In 2003, they acquired Salant Corp., a menswear designer and distributor for nearly $91 million, creating one of the largest men’s sportswear companies in the country. After that, they purchased other well known brands, like Jantzen swimwear, and several men’s and women’s sportswear lines. They also licensed blue chip trademarks from third parties such as Nike, JAG, PGA Tour, Callaway Golf and Jack Nicklaus for golf apparel. Much of the product line is available around the world, including the Middle East and Africa. But in 2012, with lackluster retail economic conditions, and in some cases, retail bankruptcies, and the sagging economy in general, Perry Ellis profits were down and the stock lost some clout. Attention to detail was paramount, and fast. “We exited 30 brands to strengthen our core and got rid of the excess,” says Feldenkreis. “We kept the steady-selling lifestyle brands as we dealt with the challenges of those years.” Today, Perry Ellis International is one-third of the business. Penguin, purchased in 1996 for $16 million, with 21 stores in the US and Europe, is one-quarter of the business, doing $400 million at retail. Golf with the aforementioned licenses and the company’s ownership of Ben Hogan is another one-fourth. And several ladieswear companies, including Rafaella and Laundry by Shelli Segal, among others, followed. The paring down and refocusing of company areas worked well. They also consolidated New York offices and closed some distribution centers. Both stock and revenues were up in the first quarter of 2015, and father and son are encouraged by current numbers. “We are a complex company and have had too many brands,” admits Feldenkreis. “The business has changed incredibly and continues to move fast. Technology takes time and ethics, and good behavior must be learned. Technology is changing the behavior of human beings. We must catch up and still be civil.” The company is actively pursuing social media and digital marketing while in the process of adding 40,000 square feet to the Doral corporate office for photo and video studios in a move to step up the status of their technology. Their goal going forward is 134

Now the largest e-commerce site in the world, the site is a no-brainer, as is their Prime Membership for $99 per year that comes with benefits such as free two-day shipping on almost every order that’s fulfilled by them; Prime Music and Prime Video; and an ever-growing list of perks. You can buy everything from groceries (Prime Pantry) to apparel (from discount to designer) to electronics, books, home décor, health and beauty items, and more.

Nordstrom nordstrom.com EBATES: Yes

Best selection of goods from mid-range and high-end designers, period. Pop-In Shop is an ongoing series of themed pop-up shops meant to showcase unknown but deserving designers and introduce you to something new (and possibly create a love match), which you can visit through live video online. There’s a Fit Finder that allows you to put in your measurements and sizing information, which is then saved, so every time you click on a clothing item you’ll be advised as to which size is the “Perfect Fit for (your name)”—and if the item runs small, you’ll be told “This item may not be a good choice for you.” How helpful is that? Free shipping, free returns, multiple 40 percentoff sales that run days at a time on merchandise from the current season (not just on clearance) and a generally well-designed, easy-to-navigate site make this one you’ll love to linger on for hours at a time.

Groupon groupon.com EBATES: Yes

Amazing deals abound year-round on Groupon, whether you’ve been dying to take the plunge and undergo laser hair removal (hundreds of offers abound in the South Florida area alone, including some that offer 6 treatments for $99, an 85 percent discount) or give an amazing jewelry gift (like .75 carat diamond earrings regularly priced at $999.99 for the very appealing price of $399.99). The fine dining deals are some of the best you’ll find anywhere, amid categories that include Hoiday Gifts, Doorbusters, Things to Do, Beauty & Spas, Health & Fitness, Automotive and Electronics. There are extra discount codes to be found on the site and shipping is free if you spend $34.99 or more.

Gilt City Miami giltcity.com EBATES: Yes

Gilt Groupe’s got it going on. Eight years after it was launched, it has more than 6 million members who relish the privilege of shopping for luxury brands like Chanel, Alexander McQueen, Valentino, John Varvatos and more for up to a 60 percent discount on women’s and men’s designer clothing, shoes and accessories, toys for kids, upscale home goods and more. Most sales last no longer than 36 hours and all start at noon daily EST. (Bonus sales start at 9 pm EST on Sundays and Wednesdays.) Membership costs nothing—sign up through Facebook or using your email address and a password, and you’re in—and when you log on expect to find an offer of the day blinking at you on site (and a lovely site it is) with a code for even more money off specific items.

Macy’s macys.com EBATES: Yes

Does any store on the planet have more “one-day” sales than Macy’s? We’d argue no. And we’re not mad at them for it, either. Pretty much any day of the week you can log onto this website and find everything from underclothes to coats, shoes to sunglasses, beauty items to home goods and appliances, at a percentage off the MSRP of any given item. If you’re a Macy’s cardholder, you enjoy a crazy-good amount of extra discounts that not only come in the form of Star Passes by snail mail but also accumulate in an online wallet you can click on while shopping on the site to reveal any offers you’ve got coming and apply them automatically to the items in your cart (e.g., $25 off $100; 25 percent off entire purchase; etc.). A “Deals & Promotions” tab takes you to additional coupons, which on the most recent day we checked included Free Shipping on Levi’s jeans and an extra 40 percent off select clearance handbags when you buy two or more. Sign up for text alerts and you receive still another 15 percent off your first purchase of $100 or more.

QVC qvc.com EBATES: Yes

This is an excellent site to shop on even for those who sneer at the thought of flipping to QVC on their televisions. Why? In a word, deals. Lunchtime Specials, which are offered daily from 11 am-4 pm EST, comprise a limited selection of items at slashed prices; HOTpicks and Special Value items (like a Dyson Ball Allergy Upright Vacuum with seven attachments that’s regularly $499.99 marked down to $349.98) are always worth checking out, but our favorite is the Today’s Special Value (what devoted QVC-ers refer to simply as the “TSV”), where beauty items—which rarely if ever go on sale in department stores or in Sephora—are often available at slashed prices or, better yet, in sets grouping luxury products at an attractive lower price than if you had bought each product separately. For example, Philosophy’s Fresh Cream Dreamy Trio of fragrance, Body Wash/Shampoo and Body Lotion for $86.84, a savings of $17.

But the holidays isn’t the only time we love the Off 5th website for finding designer shoes and bags (Chloe, Marc Jacobs and Valentino, for starters) up to 60 percent off; men’s suits, shirts (Yves Saint Laurent cotton dress shirts marked from $295 to $89.99), shoes and outerwear; cold-weather gear perfect for traveling at prices unheard of; items for the home up to 50 percent off, and on and on it goes. Shipping is free at $99 and over.

Up to 65 percent off retail 100 percent of the time is their motto, and what could be bad about that? Add free shipping on orders over $75 and really, you’ve got a no-brainer here. You must shop this site, for women and men’s clothing—including an endless selection of jeans in every style, cut and color—and shoes, handbags, kid stuff, home décor items, electronics (including top brands like Sennheiser and Beats By Dre), furs and cashmere, and accessories from hats and scarves to watches, umbrellas and designer sunnies. The site is an offshoot of the 50+-year-old Century 21 Department Store, which has five brick-and-mortar locations in New York across the boroughs. 3 EDIBLE EVENTS WE’RE WAITING FOR

Jamie DeRosa Joël Robuchon

South Beach Food & Wine Festival

3 New Spots from Joël Robuchon

One of the world’s biggest food and wine festivals is entering into new territory this year when it finally expands north into Broward County. The South Beach Wine & Food Festival is one of Miami’s fave annual events, foodies or not, every February; for 2016, it not only starts a day earlier—on Wednesday instead of Thursday—but it’s holding events in the 954 as well. There will be six Taste of Fort Lauderdale events, kicking off with Seaside Eats, hosted by Food Network’s Robert Irvine, on Wednesday, Feb. 24, which will allow 500 ticket holders who converge on the historic Bonnet House Museum & Gardens to sample delights from local favorites including YOLO, Steak 954 and Himmarshee Public House. Tickets are on sale now.

French fine-dining culinary giant Joël Robuchon is coming to the Miami Design District with not one, not two, not three, but four new restos: L’Atelier, Le Bar, La Boutique and La Terrace. Robuchon, who has earned more Michelin stars than any other chef ever, will open all four in what will be called Paradise Plaza, on the north end of the Design District, part of the area’s Phase Three buildout. L’Atelier will offer a moderately priced, casual chic fine-dining experience; Le Bar will be its more casual downstairs lounge; La Boutique will be Robuchon’s patisserie and café on the ground floor and La Terrace will comprise the top floor with a patio. Robuchon’s Miami restaurants are projected to open by the end of 2016.

Something New & Cool from Chef Jamie DeRosa: Lamuse Cafe at Epic Hotel Affable chef Jamie DeRosa (formerly of the just-closed Tongue & Cheek and owner of the newly opened Izzy’s Fish & Oyster) is opening LaMuse Cafe inside the contemporary Avant Art Gallery at the Epic Hotel (270 Biscayne Blvd. Way) in the spring with partners Dmitry Prut and Dirk DeSouza. DeRosa told the press that the collaboration would allow people to see the gallery in a new light while providing a reasonably priced dining option to those who live and work in the area. La Muse will also offer delivery to the Epic Hotel & Residences and other buildings within a four-block radius in Brickell’s central business district.

3 SHOPPING EXPEDITIONS WE’RE WAITING TO TAKE

Sawgrass Mills Colonnade

More is Better—Especially in the Miami Design District

New, Exciting Outlets at The Colonnade in Sawgrass Mills

The Much Anticipated Brickell City Centre

The transformation of the Miami Design District into the ultimate destination for cutting-edge fashion, art, design and culture continues. Construction on Phase III of development will be completed by the end of 2016, with highlights including the extension of the pedestrian walkway Paseo Ponti north to 41st Street. It will be anchored by Paradise Plaza, a new, art-filled spot that will be home to cool retail buildings designed by Daly Genik, Freeland Buck, Tolila+Gilliland, Johnston Marklee and MOS along with destination restaurants from Jean-Georges Vongerichten and the aforementioned Joël Robuchon. Among the most anticipated are the long-awaited permanent location of the Institute of Contemporary Art Miami (ICA), Museum Garage, a 10-story hotel, and a residential building—and, of course, still more luxury retailers will round out the mix, from fashion houses and also décor brands like Armani Casa, Casa Fendi, Holly Hunt, Lladró, Luminaire, The Rug Company and Vitra.

Sawgrass Mills is bringing in more luxury outlet stores to its Colonnade Outlets, on the heels of recent additions Marc Jacobs, CH Carolina Herrera, Helmut Lang, John Varvatos Outlet, Rag & Bone and Tod’s. Right now the Colonnade Outlets are home to 50 retailers and seven restaurants, but the upcoming 80,000-square-foot expansion will bring an additional 24 stores and two restaurants, plus a new parking garage with 1,700 spaces that’s slated for completion this coming summer.

It’s getting closer: the arrival of this $1.05 billion shopping and mixed-use project that will, when finished, span four blocks to the west of Brickell Avenue and to the south of the Miami River in the Downtown Brickell district of Miami. A 107,000-squarefoot Saks Fifth Avenue will anchor it (Swire Properties, its developers, and the owners of Bal Harbour Shops made an agreement two years ago to co-develop the retail portion of the project), and just before press time it was announced that the lineup would also include Stuart Weitzman, French fashion label IRO, Italian shoe designer Michele Lopriore (their first store in the US), Santa Maria Novella, Diptyque, Acqua di Parma and Porsche Design, among others.

couldn’t think of a better way to showcase his company’s colored glass, Venetian enamel, gold leaf tesserae and engineered stone surfaces than to utilize them in his own Miami Beach home. The CEO of Trend Group bought the 20th-floor waterfront apartment in Portofino Towers nearly 10 years ago. At that time, he totally renovated the unit. But his interests changed, and he decided to redesign it again before his family joined him from Italy. “About 18 months ago, I changed quite a bit in the apartment except for the white marble floors,” says Di Giuseppe, who now lives most of the year in the Miami Beach condo with his wife, Federica, and their two young sons, Francesco and Riccardo. “We had too much Travertine. I wanted a change to make my family feel comfortable. Plus, it was a good opportunity to showcase Trend Group’s materials.”

BELOW: The inviting eat-in kitchen is large and modern with a center island and cabinets made of Brazilian zebrawood. Most of the sleek stainless steel appliances are from Germany. RIGHT: The oval dining table is marble and the chairs are by Philippe Starck.

Born in Rome, Di Giuseppe was raised in the wholesale and distribution network of construction materials. He worked in the family business, Italceramiche, where he was responsible for doubling the company’s revenue from €15 to €30 million. In 1997, he joined Bisazza Group in Vicenza, Italy, a leader in the production of colorful glass mosaics. After growing that business from revenues of €4 milion to €25 million, he left to co-start Trend Group which is the parent company of Granite Transformations, a full-service home and business remodeling franchise with 150 international locations. Products of style and modern beauty are designed to consume fewer raw materials and to have extended durability in an effort to protect the environment. Local projects that Trend Group has designed include the Hotel Victor, Clevelander South Beach and Red South Beach hotel, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Florida International University and University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine. When Di Giuseppe began the renovation of his own 2,000-square-foot condo, he had a hard time choosing from Trend Group’s many beautiful countertops, cabinets, colors, finishes, backsplashes, doors, floors and glass mosaics. “I was living in this apartment alone because I was commuting back and forth to Italy and other places,” he says. “But when we decided to move everyone here and renovate, it was deciding because I have a company filled with so much.” What he knew for sure was that he needed an update to the look of the 2 bedroom-plus den, 2 1/2 bath, double-terraced apartment. In the living room, for example, everything is now minimal and subdued with modern lighting. The floor, walls and drapery are white. The sofa is leather and there is a contemporary orange chair from Poltrana Frau. The glass coffee table is industrial with wheel works. There is a throw rug, TV flush with the wall, a wood unit with a small library, and some unique art, including one piece made with Lego parts, which is a favorite of Di Giuseppe’s because he can move the pieces and constantly enjoy a fresh design.

ABOVE LEFT: The mosaic tulips mural by Orsoni leads the family into their condo from the elevator area. ABOVE RIGHT: A whimsical contemporary piece hangs above a rectangular table topped with the couple’s favorite pieces of holloware. OPPOSITE: The master bedroom is a series of dark and light contrasts in a

contemporary setting. The white bed is punctuated from behind by a dark wall composition from Brazil.

In the foyer, he and Federica moved a wall to build a large door for entering the kitchen. Mom and Dad wanted to make it more family friendly as one large, open environment. “We all love to have people over,” says Di Giuseppe. “Federica and I like to have dinner parties, and the boys enjoy inviting their friends over.” The kitchen used to have red granite countertops, which were trendy a few years ago but had worn out their novelty. So the couple reimagined the kitchen with dark Brazilian zebrawood and made the backsplash and center island white. Also in the kitchen are unusual food-preparation items, including a slicer on a pedestal which is an original from the 1930s or ‘40s. “This object was the Rolls-Royce of slicers because the mechanical part is so great,” Di Giuseppe says proudly. All of the appliances are modern, mostly German and made of stainless steel except for the coffeemaker. The espresso machine is high style and popular with the family. In fact, the entire room is modern and fun. “We have a lot

of space in the kitchen, and while it is modern, the room is not cold,” he says. “It is quite inviting. I drink coffee there and people come in from all over the house. We love it.” He also drinks coffee on his terrace after running in the morning. The pair of 50- to 60-foot terraces have grand views of the water and all of the activity that takes place on it. “I watch the cruise ships, the port and enjoy the breathtaking views,” says the designer/entrepreneur. “It’s wonderful.” The den is highlighted by a cowhide skin rug from Uruguay, lending texture to the white marble floor. Art is used in understated ways so nothing overwhelms as one enters the room. The master bedroom is spare and a sanctuary of understated elegance. The bed is white, but behind it is an exciting look created from a single piece of furniture. It is a dark wall composition from a Brazilian company called Mosarte. On either side of the piece that serves as the bed’s backboard are niches with lights inside, adding more

THIS SPREAD: The condo’s renovated bathrooms virtually shimmer with glass mosaic tiles. refinement to the room. ”I was traveling when I saw this product in Brazil and fell in love with it,” says Di Giuseppe. “I had to have it, so we shipped it here. Now I am launching the company’s products in the US.” The bathrooms had mosaics when the renovation began. One had stripes, one was done in pastel with vanity, and the master was done in gray mosaic, which was changed to create an opalescence. All of the bathrooms were redone in modern Trend Group materials, mainly modern glass tiles and surfaces. In the master bath, they backlit the material near the tub, changed the vanity and suspended the shower in dark tones. They added materials when they could and left certain things that could not be changed or moved, like one bathtub. In the small service bath, a unique faucet called The Waterdrop was installed that gives the illusion of water falling from the ceiling. The rectangular bowl is from Kohler, a company which often initiates and never misses a design trend. The apartment and its views are unique and beautiful, and the couple thoroughly enjoyed the renovation process and its results. “We have furnishings from Brazil, Uruguay, Australia and Italy,” says Di Giuseppe, who named Federica head of Trend Group’s design department because of her impeccable taste and talent. Now that the renovation is complete and the family is happily ensconced in their subtropical apartment, Di Giuseppe is quite happy. Not only does he have a spectacular and modern monument to his works around him, he has his wife and kids living in the home. “After all of the traveling and then the remodeling, it is finally finished and our entire family is together again,” he says. “It’s very special.”

Basel Art Basel, as most veterans of the fair already know, is not just about galleries and tents anymore. In recent years, luxury fashion and décor brands have gotten into the act, drawing upon their sophisticated clientele’s tastes not just for fine bags, shoes, clothing and home goods but also, of course, art—which in some cases, arguably, are one and the same. Case in point: For its first exhibition at the LOEWE Miami Design District store, LOEWE FOUNDATION is proud to present a project curated by its creative director, Jonathan Anderson, with an exhibition that embraces the disruptive beauty of the chance encounter, setting up unexpected conversations between the work of four major historical and contemporary British artists: Anthea Hamilton, Paul Nash, Lucie Rie and Rose Wylie. “When I first conceived the idea of the Loewe store in Miami, I wanted to create an environment in which to bring Spanish history and craft into a modern context,” says Anderson. “My ultimate goal with LOEWE and the LOEWE FOUNDATION is to create dialogues with art, craft and other creative fields. This exhibition is a personal snapshot of a single moment, bringing together things that have recently lodged in my mind and shaped my thinking. For me, art is a lens through which to examine the

d current moment.” The show will be installed in and around the 18th-century granary building that Anderson had transported to Miami from a small town on the border between Galicia and Portugal. Built out of stone and wood and originally used for grain storage, its dramatic presence in the space stages a meeting of past and present, embodying LOEWE’s celebration of both tradition and modernity and embracing the potential of contradiction that is key to Anderson’s creative approach. At the heart of the exhibition is a group of ceramic vessels by the late Austrian-born British studio potter Lucie Rie, whose crisp, stylized forms find echoes in the photographs of the British painter and celebrated war artist Paul Nash. Nash’s black and white photographs reveal the extraordinary in the everyday—a seaside bench, drying laundry, a freshly plowed field—finding beauty in shapes and textures that are commonly overlooked. In contrast, works by Rose Wylie and Anthea Hamilton offer an examination of more contemporary times, driven by the endless cycle of images we filter through on a daily basis. Wylie’s monumentally scaled canvases vibrate with energy, colliding references drawn from mythology to popular culture while Hamilton’s sculptures use the body as a vehicle for exploring desire and design, melding the slick surfaces of pop with the intricately handcrafted. The exhibition runs December 2nd through January 17th. LOEWE, Miami Design District, 110 NE 39th St., Suite #102, Miami. 200

beauty of fine materials, well balanced proportions, complexity of craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail in the Objets Nomades are all hallmarks of every aspect of the house of Louis Vuitton. Each form has its fabric, and each piece its enhancement—foldable, modular, portable. But then, luxury, functionality and innovation have driven the brand since its inception. A design pioneer, Louis Vuitton constantly anticipated fashion and kept pace with evolving lifestyles. The encounter between the House’s know-how and numerous renowned designers has given Louis Vuitton the occasion to develop inventive new shapes and materials that became references in the world of design. Today, the tradition is renewed with the creation of the Objets Nomades. LOUIS VUITTON, 140 NE 39th St., Miami, 305.576.1484; us.louisvuitton.com. 204

Limited-Edition Living Regalia’s architect, Bernardo Fort Brescia of Arquitectonica, was inspired by “the wind and waves” when he crafted the plans for this extraordinary property.

REGALIA ON SUNNY ISLES BEACH OFFERS SOPHISTICATED BUYERS A PRIVATE AND REFINED LIVING EXPERIENCE.

By Linda Marx In addition to 39 exclusive residences—one per floor— Regalia on Sunny Isles Beach rises above other condominium developments with its two-level, 20,000-squarefoot Penthouse and 17,000-square-foot Beach House. “Regalia continues to attract a very sophisticated buyer,” says Lou Montello, president of Regalia Beach Developers, LLC. “It is the pinnacle of an ultra-luxury condominium with an expertly trained staff singleminded in its dedication to delivering discreet and personalized service 24 hours a day.” The ultra-luxury oceanfront condominium was created with the best craftsmanship, quality and style for the kind of buyer who will accept nothing but the best. Architect Bernardo Fort Brescia of Miami’s world-famous Arquitectonica was inspired by the wind and waves when he organically sculpted this contemporary high-rise, the interior designer for which is South African-born Charles Allem of Miami’s CAD International. The developer broke ground in November 2011, and the building is now completed. Buyers from around the world have purchased units comprising more than 7,600 square feet of living space and floor-to-ceiling glass walls framing the ocean. Now, attention is turned to the Penthouse and Beach House, which will be unveiled this spring. Offered at $45 million, the Penthouse was inspired by tony addresses in London and Manhattan. Mayfair, Kingsbridge and Midtown come to mind, uniting in a sensation of sophistication, refinement and finishing. Rich wood, hammered bronze, quartz, leather, turquoise and

stone comprise the palette of textures in the rooms, including a glorious Great Room with a floating grand staircase. Only people who have traveled and become familiarized with the best addresses will truly appreciate this Penthouse with separate staff quarters, a movie theater with surround sound, custom wet bars, a game room, up to 8 bedrooms, 9 ½ baths, and a partial third floor with a rooftop pool, sun deck and private spa. The Beach House, offered at $35 million, has 8 bedrooms and 9 ½ baths and was inspired by the palazzos that hug the edge of the Mediterranean Sea. A sophisticated yet casual seaside ambience is achieved through the use of onyx, polished marble, wood, ocean blues and custom wall coverings. The 360-degree wrap-around terraces are so beautiful, residents will want to spend 24/7 relaxing out there, soaking up the sea air, and there’s a private pool with glass face and whirlpool feature, private wine cellar and lounge area, game room with billiard table, spa, steam room, sauna and massage beds. “This bespoke residence is truly a private villa on the ocean with the services of a five-star resort,” says Montello. Condos like Regalia don’t come along every day. Buying either the Penthouse or the Beach House ensures an owner the

experience of single-family-home living with all of the amenities of a luxury hotel. “Each amenity has the appearance and sensibility of a private home,” says Montello. “We offer logical extensions of residential living for all to enjoy.” Owners at Regalia, which won the 2014 USA London International Property Award for Best High-Rise Residential Development, also enjoy a number of common amenities, like a private wine cellar, chef’s kitchen, deck entry pool with private cabanas, beach club, fitness studio, yoga areas, Turkish hammam spa and spa suite, and a special playhouse with many leisure activities for children. “Regalia is truly a United Nations building with residents coming from all sorts of different countries and of all ages, many with children,” says Montello. The interiors of the Penthouse, Beach House and 39 condos are purposely appointed by designer Allem as smaller, more intimate venues, so regardless of the size, owners will feel as if they are living in a home smack-dab on the ocean—and in an ideal location. “We know our buyers like the exclusivity of Sunny Isles, yet they are close enough to Bal Harbour shopping and restaurants and many of Miami’s cultural offerings,” says Montello. All in all, a perfect example of location, location, location.
