Meredith Vincent enters her fourth season as the Meredith College Head Tennis Coach. Under Vincent’s direction, the Meredith tennis program continues to maintain its tradition as a top-tier USA South team. Both the 2015 and 2016 squads advanced to the conference tournament semifinals as the fourth seed falling to the eventual championship team, and Vincent’s first team in 2014 advanced to the finals with just one conference loss. In 2016, seniors Catherine Bryant and Ran Zhang boasted a 16-0 winning streak at No. 1 doubles, and Zhang captured 12 consecutive wins at No. 2 singles. Zhang earned the 2015 USA South Rookie of the Year honor and received All-Conference recognition alongside Bryant and Caroline Hunt. Four players on the 2014 squad earned an All-Conference nod with two named to the All-Tournament team. One of Meredith’s most decorated studentathletes Puja Patel earned a nomination for the prestigious 2014 NCAA Woman of the Year award. Vincent assumed her role with the Avenging Angels after completing seven years with the Emory University Eagles. She was named associate coach of the Eagles women’s tennis program in July 2011 after joining the staff in the fall of 2006. In her seven seasons with the Eagles, Vincent helped the team to five University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships and six trips to the NCAA Division III Tournament, including a pair of second-place finishes. In addition, Emory claimed the 2010 and 2011 ITA National Indoor Championships during her tenure with the program. Vincent was recognized as the Atlantic South Region’s Assistant Coach of the Year in both 2009 and 2010 and was part of the UAA Coaching Staff of the Year on four occasions. While at Emory, the Eagles compiled an overall record of 136-46 with 22 All-America honors and three UAA MVP awards. Vincent also brings four years of Division I playing experience to Meredith. She played two seasons for Virginia Tech before transferring to Ohio State to complete her eligibility in 2005. During her senior year with the Buckeyes, Vincent led the No. 1 doubles pair. A native of Cincinnati, Vincent served as both the tennis pro and the teaching professional at the Hyde Park Tennis Club in addition to teaching at the College of Wooster, Denison University and Virginia Tech camps. Vincent graduated from Ohio State University in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

RYAN PHELPS (ASSISTANT COACH) Ryan Phelps joined the Meredith College tennis staff in August 2015 as the assistant coach. Phelps began his coaching career in 1998 with Apex High School, and led the Cougars to eight conference championships, multiple regional wins, and a state title during his 14-year tenure. He earned Southwest Wake Conference Tennis Coach of the Year honors on 12 occasions, and his team collected the NCHSAA State Sportsmanship Team Award. He began a teaching career with Wake County Public Schools in 1997 and remains at Apex as the co-chair of the healthful living department. Phelps also serves as coordinator of the Physical Education Pupil Instructor Program (PEPI). High school students develop and implement physical activities for local elementary school programs. In 2012 Phelps became a tennis instructor at MacGregor Downs Country Club in Cary, North Carolina, where he coaches players ages 5 to 18 and facilitates adult tennis programs.
