T‫ ה‬bt soо: vi e work. In the same way as your success as an operator of WTGs depends on wind and weather, your WTGs must react reliably to these conditions. Thunderstorms and grid fluctuations caused by weather conditions are only two of the occurrences that can considerably affect the grid. Overvoltages and undervoltages are often the result. In such situations, WTGs must reliably disconnect from the grid and reliably reconnect again at a later stage. This task is carried out by the circuit breaker, carrying out some 2,500 to 3,000 switching operations each year. As its delicate mechanics are highly stressed during each operation, wear and the resulting maintenance are considerable. There is also the danger of thermal overloading and malfunctioning. Incorrect disconnect of the circuit breaker can cause expensive damage to the frequency converter.
