The mammoth cave got its name from the massive size of the rooms and passages, 60km of which have been researched. A stretch of almost one kilometre of these passages is visited during the one-hour guided tour. Deep in the heart of the cave you will enter the world of cave researchers and adventurers and hike through the gigantic passages featuring impressive rock cathedrals. Last but not least, the impressive installations of the Linz University of Arts make this an unforgettable experience.

In 1734 Hallstatt miners discovered the body of a man that was conserved by salt, flat like a board and completely grown together with the mountains. The journey in time in the Hallstatt Salt Worlds stretches from the Paleozoic to the Hallstatt time to the modern times of salt extraction today. Highlights of the tour are a giant slide with radar screening, the ride with the mine railway and the underground salt lake. New: Audio guides in 11 languages are available.

In the Altmünster Museum of Bicycles from Yesteryear you can trace the history of the bicycle through 2 centuries. About 130 exhibits, all in working condition, show the development of the running wheel, the penny wheel to the Steyr Waffenrad. There are also constantly changing special exhibitions about motor-bike rarities.

The contemporary history exhibition in the gigantic underground complex offers visitors precise and objective information in text and pictures about the history of the concentration camp at Ebensee. By special request and previous appointment groups can be accompanied through the entire camp area and commemorative graveyard.

In a 400-year-old hammer workshop on the clear Alm River visitors can experience the ever changing history of scythe smiths and the development from a small handicraft workshop to the largest scythe factory of the monarchy. Three huge water-wheel-driven wide hammers with all equipment as well as a pneumatic hammer for the smith’s demonstrations give an authentic insight into the difficult work conditions back then. Special exhibitions as listed on our website.

Some 1,200 animals (140 different kinds) are found on the 14-hectare large and natural outdoor zoo. In a short time visitors can experience the animal world of Eurasia, Africa and South America.
