Retired NYPD Emergency Responder.Parent. Concerned Citizen

Vito LaBella was born and raised in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn He served the community as an NYPD officer, NYPD lieutenant, 9/11 first responder, and a Integrity Control Officer for the NYPD.

Vito retired from law enforcement in 2017 after 32 years of service to become PTA president at the Christa McAuliffe Middle School right in the heart of the 43rd City Council District

Vito is running for NYC City Council because he is tired of career politicians and extremist “organizers” that are destroying New York City

They all go into office promising to “do more” especially for working class Americans and all they do is tax them more and make it harder to live in New York City.

Vito believes:

People in New York City have the right to medical freedom and all freedoms enshrined in the US Constitution

New York City should be free from political corruption

New York City should be tax friendly to working class people.

People of New York City should be able to hold career politicians as well as unelected bureaucrats accountable

NEW YORK'S FUTURE

I believe in our city My years of service as a police officer and education advocate have deepened my resolve to fight for the future of New Yorker City If elected as your New York City Councilman, I will make sure your voices are heard at City Council and help bring back New York City to its glory days.

City Council Policy Positions

FREEDOM

While many elected officials on the City Council claim to care about our civil rights, we should not encourage increasingly growing bureaucracies to decide what we do with our bodies and our lives, while they violate those same liberties. We should never have to choose our safety over our civil liberties because of a “crisis” To do so ensures that our city will be in a perpetual crisis We need to do a deep dive into the City’s response to the Covid pandemic, decide what was appropriate and what wasn’t and put-up guard rails in the event we find ourselves in similar circumstances It’s time to bring back moderation and common sense to politics, the City Council, and New York City

TAX REFORM

Every day, we lose New Yorkers to other states due to the everincreasing tax burden of both this state and the city. As your Councilman, I commit to cosponsoring and writing legislation to reduce or eliminate taxes that hurt working-class people in District 43, pledge to review the New York City tax laws in the New York City Charter and Administrative codes, and review how tax dollars are spent More importantly, I will work within the current New York City legal framework to hold those who are mismanaging tax dollars accountable

LAW AND ORDER

Our city is in trouble We need safe streets and safe subways We need a safer city Each legislative session, the City Council points fingers at what they believe to be the problem, but nothing changes Theres always a new excuse or scapegoat. While there is no one cause, poorly written legislation is a factor While individual civil liberties should not be compromised or relinquished for the feeling of safety, we need to ensure that each of New York City’s District Attorneys are held accountable to prosecute violent criminals and serial offenders. As a former police officer, I understand the need to allow the NYPD to enforce the laws that the City Council and the State legislature have created, while ensuring civil rights are not violated As your Councilman, I will advocate to amend the Cashless Bail law to allow NYS judges to join every other state to enable them to consider a defendants’ level of danger to society, based upon their prior history and crime committed when deciding on pretrial detention I will also ensure mental health resources funding is available to those that seek help and hold those accountable who mismanage these resources

EDUCATION ACCOUNTABILITY

As your Councilman, I will work to maintain education standards currently under attack throughout our city I will work to defend the SHSAT testing for specialized high schools, expand Gifted and Talented programs, provide parents with the choice of charter schools while fighting to ensure that special needs children get the education and services they need I will also advocate replacing critical race theory in schools that segregate our children based on their skin color with a pro-human agenda that instructs children about all aspects of our history while celebrating our multi-ethnic backgrounds and diverse city I will work with the City Council to advance educational standards, reintroduce civics and craft a Parent Bill of Rights to ensure parents have a voice in their children's education with long overdue transparency and accountability

SMALL BUSINESS

NYC small business owners are struggling to survive We need to help them thrive so they can help revive our city by being a source for new jobs As your Councilman, I will work to make our city businessfriendly, which it is currently not. Red tape and business regulations are pushing businesses to close and leave for other states It is time we revisit the outdated NYC regulations and taxes that are destroying businesses in our city Working with local business owners, I will try to fill in the legislative gaps to see what we can do to get New Yorkers back to work while we grow our local economy by looking to create tax incentives for local small businesses. Additionally, I’ll work to reduce regulations and permit costs for entrepreneurs looking to start a business in our city
