Welcome to another brilliant Year Book! Well, it’s been THAT kind of a year. Between the horror bushfires and the incalculable loss of our wildlife and being locked down for months on end, 2020 has certainly made itself felt. One good thing about this year, if anything good came from it, is that we had a little more time sequestered away to create cartoons. This book is a testament to that work and to the year. As usual, Australian cartooning proves it punches well above its weight when it comes to quality. Every year it’s a difficult choice, but I carefully pore over each category and make my voting selections. Finding a top three is bloody hard, but it’s my duty as an ACA member and former award winner, to ensure that I vote and get it done pronto. We don’t have a lot of time between voting forms going out and final collection, so do it post haste. Naturally, this year has brought so much upheaval that we couldn’t plan our annual Stanleys weekend. It’s the first time we’ve had to cancel.

We’re still in the process of deciding how the Awards ceremony will look but rest assured, we will still be handing out the gongs to those members who were voted best and fairest. We just won’t get to have the big party to celebrate. In the meantime, I think we all deserve a gong for riding out the year. Or at least a drink. Let’s hope 2021 doesn’t bring alien invaders or sharknadoes or worse. If I know one thing though, it won’t bring any diminishing of the fabulous talent in our ACA. But let’s talk about that next year, hopefully in person. For now, get your votes in and stay safe.
