Experiencing Louisville’s forgotten history through Urban exploration.

Baxter Ave. Station The beginning of a journey

At one time the L&N Railroad crossed Baxter Avenue near Beargrass Creek and a small passenger train station platform built in 1910 was located near that intersection. A station once used by millions of Louisvillians and Hoosiers on their daily commute or for leisure. No passenger trains run on these rails anymore, but they still remain. The bones of a time forgotten. Standing on the edge of the tracks, my ears wait for the whistle of an approaching train; a train will never come. I hear footsteps of passengers coming up and down the stairs, making their way across the city. Children laughing, the small talk exchanged between strangers, the heavy silence of passengers ready to board. This place may be abandon but its history is alive.

A person can live their entire life in one city yet know little of its history. There are many sites such as this that have been abandon, demolished and subsequently lost under the waves of time. This publication is an exercise in uncovering these forgotten places to bring them back to life.
