FAMU Study Abroad Info Session, Thurs. Feb. 16th, Doyle/Forman Theatre, 2:30pm: We will be holding information about the AU Study abroad opportunities in the Czech Republic at FAMU, the world-renowned film school in Prague. This is a program we recommend for all film students who wish to study abroad since it complements their learning experience at American with a semesterlong, full immersion program at one of the best film schools in the world in one of the greatest cities in which to study. The program at FAMU is taking students interested in both fiction production and documentary production. Students who attended FAMU will be there to share their experience and screen some of their work. FAMU coordinator, Professor Gary Griffin will be on hand to answer questions and describe the program. Faculty Forum: Thriving in the Field with Backpack Journalist Bill Gentile, Thurs. Feb. 16 th, 11:30am-12:30pm, McKinley Media Innovation Laboratory 100: SOC Film and Media Arts Professor Bill Gentile with discuss how he became a conflict zone journalist presenting clips from his own archives. Professor Gentile has four decades of field experience as an independent journalist and documentary filmmaker. How to Network for the SOC Networking Reception, Thurs., Feb. 16th, 6-7pm, Career Center Library: Students and alumni attending the SOC Student-Alumni Networking Reception that are interested in refining their networking skills and receiving professional advice on how to effectively interact with alumni and employers are invited to join SOC’s Prof. Chris Palmer in this interactive pre-reception workshop. Prof. Palmer, a successful documentary producer and networker extraordinaire, will give tips on projecting confidence while starting conversations, making connections, and exchanging contact information. Learn how to gracefully move from one conversation to the next, so that you can mingle with more people and broaden your network. (Prof. Palmer is also a stand-up comedian, so he's sure to keep the workshop fun and lighthearted.)
