ADMINISTRATION Augusta Preparatory Day School, founded in 1960, serves students in grades preschool through 12. Admission is by formal application, interview, recommendation, and standardized testing. Qualified students are admitted without regard to race, creed, color, sex, national, or ethnic origin. Students of color represent twenty-seven percent (27%) of total enrollment. The academic year includes 176 days divided into two semesters. Upper School classes meet daily in seven 47-minute academic periods with exams at the end of each semester. Augusta Preparatory Day School is located in Martinez, Georgia, a suburb of Augusta, Georgia. Augusta is Georgia’s second largest metro area and second oldest city located on the Georgia/ South Carolina border, about 150 miles east of Atlanta and 70 miles west of Columbia. APDS serves students from the Central Savannah River Area which includes: Columbia, Richmond, Burke, and McDuffie counties in Georgia, as well as Aiken and Edgefield counties in South Carolina. Augusta is a regional center of medicine, biotechnology, and military. The Medical District employs over 25,000 people, and Augusta is home to the state’s only public health sciences graduate university. Within the next few years, the city is expected to experience a dramatic increase in population growth with the addition of the United States Army Cyber Command located at Fort Gordon, a multi-mission, multi-service military installation.
