IMPULSE SEALERS

Impulse sealers Super Poly Due to it’s portable character, this machine is particularly suitable for sealing all kinds of strange and difficult shaped products. The bi-active seal bars (both upper and lower seal bar are equipped with a resistance wire) allows the sealing of thick polyethylene up to 2 x 0,3 mm. Furthermore it will be possible to seal most of the laminate films, a simple test will tell you if the machine will be adequate for your film or not. The machine needs to be connected to a transformer, where the seal time can be set according to the film you are using. Once the jaws are closed the button is pressed and the seal will start, indicated by a control light. After the sealing time has passed (max. 1-3 sec.) the sealing will stop automatically and you can open the tongs.

Pronto The pronto is a wall mounted sealer which can also be fixed on a work bench. It is a small sealer which can be used where space is limited.

The sealer has been designed to seal plastic bags. With a timer, the right sealing time can be set, according to the film you are using. The machine is easy to operate. Once a bag is filled, it is placed between the sealing bars. With a simple push on the sealing bar, the bar

will close and the sealing cycle will start. During sealing time, a control light indicates the cycle. An optional support is available.

Sealboy This manually operated impulse machine is ideal for packing all kinds of products in a limited work space. When using tubular foil, it is possible to make different bag sizes using the shielded cutting device to trim off any excess foil length. The timer assures the requested seal time. The machine is easy to operate by pushing down the vertical closing sealing arm. A green light indicates the cycle time which is needed to make a good reliable seal. By releasing the arm, the cycle is finished. The machine can work with all kinds of thermoplastic films (polyethylene, polypropylene and thin laminates). Applications: all types of bags, ironware, mechanical and electric parts, etc.

Sealboy Magneta Similar to our “Sealboy” this manually operated impulse machine is ideal for packing all kinds of products in a limited work space. The sealing time is adjustable with a timer. When the upper jaw is closed, the magnetic interlock ensures that the seal pressure is maintained until the sealing and cooling process is complete. When using tubular foil, it is possible to make different bag sizes using the shielded cutting device to trim off any excess foil length. The Sealboy Magneta comes in various models and a range of different sizes, each with a selection of accessories. The machine can work with all types of thermoplastic films (polyethylene, polypropylene and thin laminates).

Audion Sealmaster Magneta The Sealmaster Magneta series consists of a complete range of manually operated impulse sealers with different sized models and options. This user friendly and safe machine is ideal for packing small and medium sized series. The machine can work with pre-made bags as well as with tubular foil. When working with tubular foil, the machine can produce various length bags by using the integrated shielded cutting device. The sealing cycle of the machine can easily be started by pushing down the seal bar by hand or by using a foot pedal. Once started the magnetic bars remain closed throughout the sealing and cooling cycle and then automatically open, ready to make the next seal. The machine is suitable for sealing polyethylene, polypropylene and thin laminates and the sealing and cooling times are adjustable.

MGM - Magneta Motor The Magneta Motor MGM is Audion’s latest development in the Magneta series, which has conquered the market successfully. The Magneta Motor MGM sealer is powered by an electrical motor and equipped with an electrical foot switch. This special system enables you to close the sealing jaws with a gentle push on the pedal and achieves consistent and reliable seals. Almost all Sealmaster Magneta models can be supplied as MGM version and the options also apply to the MGM models. MG(M)T - Twin seal The twin seal model of the Sealmaster Magneta is equipped with two parallel sealing bars. The cutting device will cut the film in between the two sealing bars. The second seal bar can be switched off allowing the machine to be used as a standard Sealmaster Magneta.

MGMI - Industrial seal The MGMI model of the Sealmaster Magneta is equipped with a 5 mm wide seal instead of the standard 3 mm wide seal. On this model the sealing wire is fastened with tensioners to prevent distortion. MGMDS - Bi-active The bi-active model of the Sealmaster Magneta is equipped with two sealing bars, one in the arm and one in the machine. This creates a more powerful seal than the standard model and is capable of sealing thick films up to 2 x 0.25 mm. MG(M)S - Stainless steel The MGS model of the Sealmaster Magneta is made out of stainless steel for special applications like the food industry or for clinical environments. The MGS has a stainless steel housing and accessories. All the other characteristics are identical to the standard model. The options like the support table and the support are also available in stainless steel.

Sealmaster Magneta Accessories The work table (OTST) is equipped with an adjustable bag holder, to easily handle different bag sizes. The support (SP) is a stand the Sealmaster Magneta can be mounted on. With the support comes a foot pedal, which allows the operator to keep his hands free for handling the bag. By pushing the foot pedal the sealing cycle will start. A set of rolls (SR) for the support can be ordered separately. A polylock is supplied with this option. The poly lock (PL) is an accessory that is mounted on the back of the machine in order to grip the tubular film in between two seals to avoid the film falling from the machine when a support with a set of rolls is used. This accessory can be ordered separately but is also packed in the accessories rolloflux and in the set of rolls.

Industrial Sealer (IS) The industrial sealer is an easy to ope足 rate, heavy duty sealer for packaging all kinds of products. The sealer is pneumatically operated and requires connection to a compressed air supply with 6 bar pressure. The sealing and cooling time are controlled by potentiometers and the machine is activated via a foot pedal. The Audion industrial sealers are available in different sizes to suit bag widths of up to 1300 mm.

The sealing bars are both heated and can be positioned vertically and 足horizontally with four positions in between, to suit the working position. All modern packaging materials can be used from polyethylene, polypropylene and all kinds of laminates. The machine is supplied on wheels for ease of manoeuvrability. Speedpack The Speedpack is a manual fill and seal machine, with tubular material rolled up on the filling chute. By inserting the product(s) in the filling chute, the product will descend due to its own weight, taking the tubular material with it. Once the product has fallen to the bottom of the bag, the seal cycle can be started by pulling down the arm of the machine. Seal time can be set with a timer. The machine is equipped with two impulse sealing bars. In between the bars is an adjustable knife which can be used to make a definite cut to separate the bags or a perforated cut to achieve chain bags. The adjustable bag support will help you obtain the required length

of bags. See the drawing for the principle of the machine. The Speedpack is ideal for the packaging of small and medium series of parts which need to be grouped or packed. Another advantage of the machine is the fact that the bag size can be varied according to the product by changing the size of the filling chute or adjusting the bag support to change the bag length. Since the tubular material is rolled up on the filling chute, the film will wrinkle a bit, depending on the time the material will be on the filling chute. Therefore, we do not advise this machine for packages where the presentation of the bag is important.

Instead of a knife the Pandyno uses a cold cutting wire which achieves a clean straight cut, however chain bags are therefore not possible. Instead of two sealing bars the machine has one (industrial) 足sealing bar with circa 5 mm seal width and has an extra timer to set the 足cooling time needed to get a good seal. The seal cycle will start once the operator has pushed the sealing bars where they are held in closed position by a magnet.

The Pandynair works according to the same principle as the Pandyno. However the seal bar will be pneumatically closed after activating the seal cycle with an electric foot pedal. This will leave the operator hands free and able to handle the product. Compressed air is required for this machine.

Super Cello These heat sealing tongs can be used for a variety of applications requiring a constant heat sealer that can be used at the location of the item to be sealed. The 4,5 metre long power lead enables the user to walk around with the unit and seal packages on site. The comfortable insulated grip of the machine keeps the handle cool even when the temperature of the jaws rises to 250 °C. The Super Cello can be used for sealing Coated Paper and Aluminium laminates. The temperature of the jaws can be adjusted from 60 °C to 250 °C to suit the type and thickness of the material to be sealed. Both sealing bars are heated providing efficient heat distribution.

Futura Junior The Futura Junior is an economical hand operated tabletop heat sealer designed for low volume packaging. The maximum temperature of this machine is set in a way that the teflon can not burn through, which means that the machine is extremely low-

Lamino The Lamino heat sealer can be operated by a foot pedal, leaving both hands free for handling the product. The profiled sealing bars apply high pressure to seal different kinds of ­laminated bags e.g.: paper, aluminium, PP and cellophane. A brim on the seal bar ensures the correct position of the seal. IFP The IFP is specially designed for gassing various products that require special protective atmospheres. Vacuum Impulse Sealer (VI) The Vacuum Impulse sealer is a heavyduty sealer for vacuum packaging and /or modified atmosphere (gas flush) packaging. The Vacuum Impulse sealer is easy to operate with nine different programmes built in as standard. Use the potentiometers to set the vacuum, gas, seal and cool time and press the foot pedal to start the vac/gas/sealing cycle. Vacuum Sealers

VSV

The Audion VSV was designed for vacuum packaging and gas flushing of large heavy objects. The sealing head is adjustable in height so it quickly adapts to different bag lengths. The electronic control panel features nine separate programs, each of which can be set to a different value for vacuum level, gas flushing and sealing. This allows for quick and easy changes between products that have differing packaging requirements. The Audion VSV can be easily ­integrated into a packaging line by the addition of a roller or powered ­conveyor to bring the product under the sealing head. Once there, the bag is secured to the sealing bar with clips and the cycle is started. The VSV is made of stainless steel and is rated to IP 54. For safety, a two handed operation is necessary to start the machine and it is also fitted with large emergency stop buttons. Two useful items that are standard equipment are the water discharge and the CIP ­facility. The water discharge absorbs the condensation that collects when vacuum packaging moist pro­ducts such as meat, fish or vegetables. The CIP allows the vacuum pipes to be cleaned with warm water after ­packing powders or liquids. VSV 1000

Materials All heat sealable vacuum materials can be used such as laminates, polypropylene, nylon, sterifoil, aluminium/paper and coated materials The VSV works according to the same principle as the other nozzle ­vacuum machines. The machine works in an automatic mode and is equipped with a bag stretcher. The operator places the bag between the bag holders. Once the bag has been placed, the cycle can be started by pushing two buttons simultaneously. During the cycle time of the

machine, the operator has his hands free to prepare the next bag. The head descends, the nozzles will be put in the bag, and the vacuum and eventual gas flush will be carried out. Vacuum Chamber Machines A vacuum chamber machine removes the air out of a bag by use of a vacuum pump. Once the air has been removed the bag is then sealed. The Audionvac models start with a small tabletop model and progresses through various sizes to a very large double chamber unit. The cabinet of every model is made of stainless steel, while the chamber is either constructed of stainless steel (VMS machines) or aluminum (VM machines). Each model has unique combination of different types of lid and chambers. Digital control panel Every Audionvac model is equipped with a digital control panel. This control panel is clearly laid out and easy to program. VMS 43, 53, 113, and 133 have 1 program control panel and all the other models have 10 program control panel. Soft-air All the 10 program models are standard equipped with soft-air function which enables fragile (e.g. fish) or sharp (e.g. T-bone) products to be packed without damage. The air enters the vacuum chamber very gently after the sealing process giving the vacuum bag time to form around the fragile or sharp product. The result is that the product or the vacuum bag will not be damaged. A further benefit is that the product looks neater with a better formed package. Filler plates All models come with filler plates so that the working height inside the chamber can be adjusted for the product. Measurements in general The front of the machine, where the

control panel is placed, is called the length. The front to back dimension is called the width. For tabletop models this means that front side (the length) is the shortest side and the depth (width) is the longest side. Effective Chamber Size The effective chamber size is the space between the sealing bar(s), the sides and the lid. The net sealing bar size is given which is the useable length. Measurements of the space between the sealing bars and the chamber walls The difference between the absolute chamber size and the effective chamber size is the space between the sealing bars and the walls of the chamber. This area is shown as the grey area around the effective chamber size.

Options Sealing bar configurations There are some models that can be equipped with different sealing bar configurations. The different possible sealing bar configurations are indi­cated next to each model. Sensor When it is important to obtain an exact vacuum or gas level we recommend a sensor. The standard machine normally relies on a time cycle for the vacuum and gas levels, which is accurate enough for most applications. However, when dealing with products that vary in volume or density, a sensor ensures that each package is under the same level of vacuum. Multi-cycle Sometimes it may be necessary to have a repeated sequence of vacuuming and gassing. The multi-cycle option makes this possible with up to 8 processes in one cycle. All models (except VMS 43, 53, 113, 133 and 153 VCB) can be equipped with the multi-cycle option. It is not possible to combine the multicycle with the sensor option. Gas Flushing Adding gas to the package is a way of extending the shelf life of the product. The product, and the space around it in the chamber are vacuumised as normal. Usually after the vacuuming process the bag is sealed; but with gas flushing the pouch is injected with a gas or gas mixture. When the desired volume of gas is reached the bag is hen sealed. This gives a very low residual oxygen percentage and the product is no longer under vacuum pressure. Gas kit Gas kit is a group of parts that can be mounted to the machine to add gas flush function after the machine has left the factory. Gas kit is available on all the models manufactured after 2006 that

have gas flush as an option. Filling plates for lid ­­­­­(only for stainless steel double chamber models) By using the filler plates for lid, the volume of the chamber decreases. The benefit is that the cycle time becomes shorter and the gas consumption decreases. The filler plates are not designed for frequent mounting and dismounting therefore it may not be suitable if one of the major packed products is taller than the inner height of the lid equipped with filler plates. Easy swing (only for stainless steel double chamber models) This is a system which enables the operator to work in an ergonomic way. The system keeps the lid closed after a cycle, and by pressing the button, the lid rises by the force of springs. By using this rising motion, the lid can be moved to the other side with much less force. ESD (Electrostatic discharge) ESD is a rapid transfer of electrostatic charge between two objects, usually resulting when two objects at different potentials come into direct contact with each other. During the vacuum and decompressing phase, air flows over machine surfaces and builds up a static load. If electrostatic discharge occurs during packaging of an electronic product, the product could be damaged instantly, but cannot be found visually from outside. With ESD option, all the surfaces are made of conductive material that discharges electrical current away to the ground connection of the machine. There will be no static loaded components inside the machine, so the vulnerable electronic products are protected from electronic damage.

To ensure the protection, the products need to be packed in anti-static bags. Gas flow control valve (only for VMS 153 V) This option is recommended in case of packaging powders with gas. With this valve it is possible to regulate the incoming gas flow, preventing the powder from being blown out of the package. Powder filter (only for VMS 153 V and VMS 153 VCB) Powder filter is recommended if the machine is used to pack very fine powders. The filter prevents the powder from going into the vacuum pump. Liquid filter (only for VMS 153 V and VMS 153 VCB) Liquid filter is recommended if the machine is used to pack liquids. The filter prevents the liquid from going into the vacuum pump and causing corrosion. Platform (only for VMS 153 VCB) By using the platform on VMS 153 VCB, a stand-up package and a square (brick) package can be created on the same machine. The extra benefit of having a platform is that it is also possible to have the gas function available on this model (but not together with the cassette). Voltages, Phase and Frequency All models can be supplied with a different voltage, phase and frequency to accommodate specific requirements of the customer.

VMS 153 VCB The VMS 153 VCB is ideal for creating vacuum brick bags of powdered products (such as ground coffee) or nuts. The brick shape is created with a custom designed forming cassette, which is useable for multiple bag per cycle operation. To ensure nice brick shape, a “stamper” is delivered with the machine with which the top of the package can be flattened prior to vacuuming. It is possible to pack stand-up pouches as well as brick package by exchanging the forming cassette with the optional platform. When the platform is attached, it is possible to use the gas flush option.

Dip Tanks The dip tank is mainly used in the food industry. Food is often packed in a shrink bag or in a vacuum bag. When using a vacuum chamber with a dip tank both methods are combined. Special vacuum shrink bags are therefore required. After vacuum packaging, the product is placed into the, with hot water filled, dip tank for a few seconds. During this bath, the special vacuum shrink film will retract the plastic surplus film around the product. Resulting in a better looking packaging, as well as a reduced packaging volume. Type

What makes our machine special? SLB Tray Sealer The keywords for the SLB Tray sealing machines are: Speed and Simplicity The SLB machine uses an innovative gas flush process to produce a Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) in a rapid period of time. This process allows the SLB machine to operate without the use of a vacuum pump. Not using a vacuum pump gives this machine several big advantages over traditional equipment: • Faster production speed • No damage to delicate products • Works well with liquids and products with high water content • Easy to operate and troubleshoot • Low maintenance

The technique which the SLB uses is a flushing of gas combined with a controlled turbulence inside the tray. This fast and simple system results in a short cycle time and increased production speed. The entire gas flush process is also extremely efficient, resulting in gas consumption that is not much more than with conventional machines. Under ideal circumstances a residual oxygen level of less than 0.1% can be obtained in the container. The use of high percentages of oxygen is also possible, making this machine ideal for packing products such as red meat.

Tray Sealers

Most commonly used gas mixes Nitrogen (N2) Nitrogen is mainly used to “displace and replace oxygen” in the package before it is closed. It prevents oxidation of ­pigments, flavourings and/or fatty acids. Nitrogen is inert, odourless, and has low solubility in water and fats. It has no direct antibacterial or fungicidal properties. Carbon dioxide (CO2) Carbon dioxide is soluble in water and fat and is an antibacterial and fungicidal agent. CO2 and water together form a weak acid (H2CO3). This acid has a bactericidal and anti-microbial effect, it slows down and reduces the proliferation of aerobic bacteria and molds, especially in the absence of oxygen. It is effective at concentrations above 20% in atmosphere. It has no stimulating effect on pathogenic organisms. Because CO2 is very soluble in water and fats it may promote development of a slightly acidic taste if CO2 use is not properly controlled. It can also cause the film

on packaged products to collapse. This may be either a drawback or a targeted effect. Oxygen (O2) In general, oxygen is an undesirable element. In some applications, how­ever, it is used as a constituent in a gaseous ­mixture. It is used in particular for maintaining the red colour of meat. It also ­prevents the proliferation of strictly anaerobic ­organisms (e.g. for fresh fish). Argon (Ar ) Argon is a chemically inert, odourless and tasteless gas. It is a ‘heavier’ gas than nitrogen, and is used to protect sensitive products such as wine. However, it is twice as soluble as nitrogen. Hence it can be used in a controlled atmosphere to replace nitrogen in most applications. Its ­solubility and certain molecular characteristics give it special properties for use with vegetables. Under certain conditions, it slows

down metabolic reactions and significantly reduces breathing. AVM 200 IC The AVM 200 IC is the most compact Audion vertical form, fill and seal machine. This bagger is ideal for the packaging of parts and other small items in bags; reducing material costs and increasing production speed.

The AVM is a vertical form, fill and seal machine, which automatically forms a bag from a flat roll of film, allow it to be filled with free flowing product, and then seal and separate the finished package. Using the appropriate dosing system, these bags can automatically be filled with free flowing solid, powder or liquid products. Audion can supply the integrated

system, including the dosing equipment, packaging machine and necessary feeding systems. In addition to the standard range Audion has a special engineering department where machines are developed and built to customer specifications.

Optional intermittent discharge conveyor (ATBI) This intermittent discharge conveyor can also be used as a support for bagging heavy products.

Optional Feeding System (Optimizer) This system will improve production output and is ideal when bagging parts as a kit. The feeding system of the AVM 200 IC consists of a sorting table on which the product can be placed, a conveyor belt with dividers, and a product counter with photo eye. The operator manually fills the conveyor sections. The conveyor automatically dispenses the product into the AVM 200 IC. AVM 190 HS The AVM 190 HS can be used to pack many different products, such as granules, powders, liquids, and solids. The low height of the machine (less than 1200 mm) means that product feeding can be done manually or by means of a fully automatic dosing system, which Audion can supply. The complete AVM 190 HS range is designed to be integrated with a multi head/multilane scale, as well as auger, pump or volumetric filler. Dosing systems Besides the advanced packaging machines, Audion manufactures and supplies a wide range of automatic dosing equipment suitable for all types of products. For every product, Audion has the solution to meet the customer’s demand. When high speed and accuracy are required, we have multihead digital combination scales. For liquids we have pumps, for powders an auger, and for extremely free flowing products we can supply a ­volumetric cup dosing system. Audion also manufactures the complementary equipment to transport the product to and from the packaging machine. All these systems have their own product range and there is sure to be a ­solution that will suit your needs. Linear scale The Audion linear scale consists of a weigh bucket with two feeding lanes (fine and coarse). The product is ­transported from a storage hopper to the weigh buckets by vibration. When the set weight is almost reached the coarse lane will close and the final weight will be made by the fine lane. The scale is controlled by a PLC with menu operated software. The scale is very flexible and can be used for all types of free flowing ­products, including rice, coffee, candy, potato chips, pet food, and fertilizer. Automatic dosing systems Belt doser The Audion belt doser is primarily used for potting soil or similar products. Product is delivered to the belt from a storage hopper. Product height is controlled by an adjustable valve. Keeping the belt timing constant assures feeding accuracy. This system is very flexible and is normally used for applications that require large ­volume.

Liquid dosing pump Audion has a full range of stainless steel pumps for dispensing liquids. These pump are used to fill the AVM with a set quantity of liquid. The pumps can be set to dispense product automatically or semi-automatically, if desired. Depending on the liquid and dispensing requirements, Audion can supply a suitable pump.

Counting systems When the number of products is more important than the total weight Audion can supply counting machines. AUDIONPACK seal / shrink combinations These seal/shrink combinations are ideal for moderate production quantities (up to 300-600 packs per hour). The machines operate with a shrink hood instead of a tunnel. The hood is closed by an electronic hold-down magnet during the film sealing and heat-shrink wrapping operations. STERILE PACKAGING IN THE MEDICAL INDUSTRY Healthcare is one of the most important fundamentals in our life; mankind is spending lots of money on a healthy lifestyle, health insurances and new developments. And simply because good health is unaffordable. Over the last years, different standards have been developed in this sector to ensure that the best available techniques are used on a high level when our health is involved. The EN 868 is the most well known standard when it comes to sterile packaging. All packaging materials and systems must comply with the restrictions given in Part 1. Part 2-10 relate to the requirements and test procedures for different packaging materials. These tests can be used to show that all requirements have been fulfilled.

The ISO committee decided in 2002 to combine both the EN 868 - 1 and ISO 11607 in one new revision; this lead to the joint revision ISO 11607 part 1 and 2. Part 1 is about the requirements and test procedures for packaging materials, part 2 about the validation requirements of packaging processes. According to this standard, all packaging processes must be able to be validated. Validation requires reproducible processes. As it comes to the sealing of the bags, the Audion sealers are very easy to validate; they operate automatic and can therefore reproduce the same seal every time. The parameter controllers on these validatable sealers constantly monitor all critical parameters and block the machine when they are out of the acceptable band width.

The ISO 11607 standard; “Packaging for end-sterilized medical products� has already been used (first as a draft) for several years at an international level.

Calibration service for medical machines In cooperation with a certified laboratory Audion offers a calibration certificate for the medical machines. Depending of the machine model, sealing temperature, sealing time and sealing pressure are certified.

External soft ware for use on computer With extra soft ware it will also be possible to connect the medical sealer to your PC. The data of the sealer can be read and stored on your computer this way.

To guarantee the accordance with the machine specifications, our calibration service can be used; the sealer parameters are measured in an official laboratory. MEDICAL SEALERS TESTING EQUIPMENT

APT-100 Peel tester

The APT 100 is a device for measuring tensile strength of seals made on medical bags. The APT 100 is designed to perform peel tests following the ASTM F88-00 as well as the EN868-5. The machine clamps a specimen and pulls the seal apart, measuring the tensile strength with load cell. The machine collects the data 100 times per second and displays the maximum seal strength. By transferring the data to a PC, the complete test result will be presented in table and colored graphic chart. Besides the seal strength, the seal width can also be measured according to your own seal strength definition. The result can be printed out as peel test report for one of your validation processes.

Accurate temperature measurement In order to facilitate your validation process, we developed the ATM. With this sophisticated device, you can measure the temperature between the sealing wires and calibrate the machine in accordance with the measured values. Accordingly to validation processes, the seal temperature needs to be calibated after changing a sealing wire in the machine. With the Audion ATM device this will now be a very easy operation to do.
