Dedication I would like to dedicate the creation and publishing of this book to myself. Shout out to me because I put in the work to finish each chapter, shout out to me because I took the time to write this autobiography, shout out to me because I deserve it.
Chapter I “Be who you are And say what you feel Because those who mind don’t Matter And those who Matter Don’t Mind.” - Dr. Seuss. My life began on January 14, 2001 (the day I born) at Saint Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ. I remember hearing stories about how cold it was that day and how excited my family was to bring me home. A few days after I was born, my mom and dad brought me home in Somerset, where I got to meet all six of my wild brothers and sisters that were excited to see me. Being my parent's last child of seven, they don’t recall many of my milestones but, I do remember some of the few facts about me before they forgot. I got my first tooth a little after I turned one. My first words, which my dad was happy about was “Dada”. When I was a baby, I absolutely loved Elmo, my grandma would even call my mom and speak to me in her version of Elmo’s voice. I loved having so many older siblings because it meant that I could usually do some of the things they did when they weren’t supposed to since they were supposed to watch me, like going outside to play. I know that I had tons of fun playing as a kid with my neighbors although I can’t remember exact moments. As a kid, my parents were studying to become Jehovah’s Witnesses so we never celebrated birthdays until I was about 10 or 11. I used to just love dogs, and I still do, which is why I was so happy when I got my third dog Jules (I don't remember getting my first pet). I was over the moon to go to my grandma’s house to pick up our new family pet, although the circumstances of why we're taking her were bad which I didn’t understand then. Our dog Jules is a cute golden Labrador retriever and she’s 9 now and she’s also kinda fat. She loves to get her nails painted and to be petted and played with. Some of my most favorable memories with my dog are when we take her to swim because she loves it so much, especially at Sandy Hook beach. One of my favorite memories from when I was little was when I broke my arm at E.A.S. and went to the hospital and got a hot pink cast. I'm not crazy or anything, I was just spoiled to death by everyone after it happened because I was everybody's little baby. My dad gave me the PSP I had been asking for, for months along with some fun games. My mom would get me ice cream when I asked, and everybody came to the hospital when it happened and I felt very loved. My siblings were even nicer to me, even Wayne, who would mess with me a lot (“to make me tougher”).
“Family is not an important thing, it is Everything <3” -Unknown
My name is Aubrianna, but everyone calls me Nana. I have a very big family including my parents, John and Erica Marotta. I have six siblings because my parents each, had two kids from their first marriage and after they got married had three more together. My oldest sister Shannon Marotta, then my oldest brother Wayne Prescod 24, next is my sister Nikole Marotta (about to be Nikole Clegg), then the brother John Marotta, next is my brother Eriq Marotta, last but not least is me. I don’t like to say that I have favorites, but I definitely favor my mother more. My mom, to me is beautiful. She has dark skin and longish black hair. My is a very smart, accomplished black women. My mom went back to college to get her masters degree in computers, now that she got it a few years back, she’s able to teach at FHS and she loves it. She is also a licensed cosmetologist and she used to teach it at a cosmetology school. I mostly just like spending time with my mom in the morning everyday because she drives me 40 minutes to school and takes me places. Some of her greatest accomplishments are that she graduated college, had 5 kids and 2 step children, and has been married almost 19 years. My dad is a definitely a very interesting person. He is 45, so he’s getting a little old, so he walks slow most of the time, he loves coffee (his signature scent since he’s always drinking it), and he shaves his head (he’s bald). He used to be obsessed with knowing everything about computers, now he has his dream job of working for a company. Some of his best characteristics are that he has a big heart and is very generous. My favorite activity to do with him is to go shopping because he lets me get whatever I want (within reason). Some are his great accomplishments are having 5 kids and 2 step children, as well as graduating high school, and has been married to my mom for nearly 19 years. I have six siblings, four half siblings but we grew up together, so I don’t see them like that. My oldest sibling, Shannon is 26, she’s in her last year of law school right now and has a good job. The next sibling is Wayne, he’s 24 and is very smart but, he’s in jail and gets out soon, although he’s in jail he’s almost done with college and achieving good grades. The third sibling is Nikole 24, but she likes to be called Niki, she recently had a baby girl, Sanai Clegg, and she is engaged to Samurai Clegg. Next is my big brother Kha-lin, 23, his passion is dance and he’s good at it. My third oldest brother is John, 20, we call him Johnny, he’s married to Elena and they have two girls together, Madelynn and Elliott. Johnny is an IT guy like our father. My last brother is Eriq, 18, and he’s a loaf and enjoys playing video games. I'm the youngest child, and i’m 15. My favorite memories of all of them are holidays when they all come over and we enjoy eachothers company. I’m not very close with my grandparents, simply because I don’t want to be, but, my favorite grandma is my mother’s mom. She tries to be nice, although the stuff that comes out of her mouth leaves you puzzled and she curses a lot. My grandma usually shops online during the day, watches her soaps and tennis (her favorite sport), and she likes to cook. I like spending time with her and helping her with some household chores that she can’t do herself. Some of my most favorite memories with her are during the holiday’s when we visit her.
Over many years I’ve had a lot of pets. Now, I have dog named Juliet but we call her Jules and she 9 years old. Jules is a golden labrador retriever, and she listens very well and gets along with my nieces well. She is also known for her greediness, whenever she wanders out of the backyard and you yell “Jules come eat”, she’ll come running from down the block. I love all of my family members equally, but I like some more than others like most people. I’m closest to my sister-in-law Elena and my mom. What i like most about spending time with Elena is that we are always laughing and cracking whack jokes. I like spending time with my mom because she’s mom.
Chapter III “ Like goes by in the blink of an eye. Appreciate the moments” - unknown As I was growing up, my family went on many trips my favorites were traveling to Florida. Whenever we go to Florida, we usually go to Disneyland too (my favorite place on earth!). Since we always drove to Florida on these trips, thanks to my mothers fear of heights, we usually stopped in others states like Georgia and South Carolina where my family lives. I absolutely loved going down south where it was so much warmer than New Jersey but, one thing that always caught me off guard were all of the flies. A few years ago on our way back from Florida, we stopped by my mom's best friend’s house in North Carolina and had the best time seeing them as well as stopping at all of the soul food restaurants, we even stayed in a nice hotel for a night. I love all holidays and so does my family, we celebrate almost all of them including New Years, Valentines, 4th of July, Halloween, Christmas, etc. My best-loved holiday of all is the latter and Thanksgiving. Throughout these lovely days of the year it’s more common to smell good food cooking than not, it's also okay to be stuffed with food because your sweater covers it, and most of all I get to see my family. During Christmas I honestly couldn't care less what I get because I get all the joy I need from seeing people’s reactions to what I got them. In my family we don’t really have traditions because we just like to live in the moment. The only thing that could really be considered a tradition is that every year we get the tree from the attic on thanksgiving night and put it up the day after. Before the New Year, we take down the tree because according to my grandma we should only have one tree a year. I miss the only true italian tradition we had, eating pasta on Sundays, now we just eat pasta any day. Birthdays are undoubtedly my favorite day of the year because the whole day all of the attention is on me, which I love. My mom also loves throwing me birthday parties because I’m her baby, so after me she won't be throwing any more parties. In the past, my favorite party was when I turned 15, my party was at a hibachi restaurant and all of my closest friend came and most of my siblings, I even got really nice gifts. Since the place didn’t provide cake, I got a two tier cake from Costco and it was so adorable and had my favorite flavor of cake (coconut). Most of my childhood memories as so great because I was able to share those moments with all my siblings.
Chapter IV “A strong friendship doesn’t need daily conversation or being together. As long as the relationship lives in the heart, true friends never part.” - unknown I remember the day when I first met my best friend Coco, which says a lot because I have a terrible memory. She was definitely the best best friend I until I met Sidraah in 8th grade. They are both my two favorite people (outside of my family) and I’ve never had a fight with either of them. My friends are the best things that have happened to me and I don't know where I would be without them. Both of my best friends are funny, honest, trustworthy, which I think is key to having a good friendship because it allows for great never ending conversation. Sidraah and I like going to the mall to shop together, even if we don’t buy anything but, we always have fun to no avail. Me and Coco don't really hang out much but we now we are each other's best friends forever, ever since we were 7. The best thing about out friendship is that we don’t constantly text or spend time together, but like my quote says it almost as if we are never apart because we have each other in spirit. I’m not sure how to describe Sidraah as a scent but she usually either smells like good food or perfume. At first Sidraah and I became friends because of geometry and I would always take Ms. Barker’s chair to her side of the classroom to gossip with her which would bother Nicholas. So one thing I like about her personality is that I know I can always talk to her about anything without worrying that she’ll tell somebody. I admire that Sidraah isn’t shy about anything and always laughs everything off instead of taking it to heart like me. I would say Coco smells exactly like her house all of the time, but it's hard to pinpoint what smell it is, but it's not stinky or bad. Coco is a very funny and active person, she’s also been reading more lately (not books, Wattpad), which I think is funny because Coco doesn’t like school. Coco is a good friend to because she’s always there for you and sympathetic, you could call her at two a.m. and she’d answer because she's up reading wattpad. My favorite thing to do with her is going over her house to chill and eat food. Overall I have and have had many good friends, some fake and others not, but all in all these two gals are my favs.
Chapter V “Making money is a hobby that will complement any other hobby you have, beautifully” ~ Scott Alexander My favorite hobbies are doing makeup, making money (hence the quote, and watching doctor shows. In my opinion doing makeup is almost mandatory as becoming a teenager, I like making money because I can do whatever I want with it. My dream in life is to become a doctor since 8th grade, so I like watching doctor shows to try and get a taste of what it could be like. My most favorite hobby is doing makeup. I like beating my face in my room because of the great lighting. I usually do my makeup after school when I get home and I’m just bored, I never really do my makeup in the morning because I’m usually either too lazy or too tired to do it in the morning. Doing makeup is one of my favorite hobbies because it lets me show my creativity as well as practice for when I get older and actually feel like wearing makeup out of the house. I think it's so special because to me because I enjoy doing it. My second most favorite hobby is watching doctor shows like Grey's Anatomy. I usually watch it on Netflix and Hulu or in my mom’s room since she has a cable box. I love watching medical shows because I want to be a doctor when I grow (yes I know they aren't realistic). The best part about watching them is that hopefully I can learn a little something by the time I go to med school. It’s special to me because I would like to think that my life would be like the tv shows, full of drama. My last favorite hobby, which I think should be everyone’s, is making money. I love making money, I would do almost any job, even work at a fast food restaurant if it meant getting money in my pocket. Now that I am 16, I’m going to go get a job so I can continue this lovely hobby of mine. I think that what’s special for me about making my own money is that I can spend it however I want, because I earned it myself. I live doing all of my favorite hobbies, especially watching tv since it is the least active of all of them. I don’t think I’ll ever stop doing any of my hobbies because I love them so much and they are all good for me and will benefit me one day.
Chapter VI “School may be hard, annoying, and irritating. But admit it, you’re going to miss it when it ends” ~Unknown When my school career first started I was about 5 years old. I went to preschool at 4 for about 1 month but I already know the stuff they were teaching because my mom taught me so I stopped going. I went to Elizabeth Avenue School from pre-school until 4th grade. I remember my first day of kindergarten because we took a class pic wearing silly props they gave us. I absolutely loved school because it meant I didn’t have to stay home all of the time. As a little kid I don’t think I hung out with friends often because I felt more comfortable with my family. I always hung out with Coco Because we went to cheer together and were best friends. I had another friends Samantha and I went to her house and never went again because her dogs scared me a little (I mean a lot). As I got older and in about 4th grade, my next best friend Bryanna moved in next door to me and we would constantly be over each others house. I can remember a lot from 4th grade and up and my memories from before aren’t so vivid in my mind. In 4th grade we went on the most fun field trip to some cave in Pennsylvania, this was my favorite trip back then because I had so much fun. After walking through the cave we ate lunch at these tables across from a very steep hill and all the teachers told us to go play so of course we did. We rolled down the hill repeatedly for hours and had so much fun we didn't want to go home. When we were done they walked us to the ice cream stand and I of course had trouble getting ice cream because I’m allergic to nuts so they were extra cautious. I think I have 5 favorite teachers. Ms. Grosso from 2nd grade (taught all subjects) she was so nice, Ms. Lyman from 3rd grade (math, science, history) she would bring the whole class crumb cake every friday and it was delicious, Ms.Pinnetto from 4th grade she was a good teacher and very personable, Ms. Bakari from 8th and 10th grade(science) she’s a good teacher and funny because she’s so extra, and last but not least Ms.Wong from 9th grade because she always lets me sit in her room during breakfast. I don't think teachers get enough credit for what they do, because if it wasn’t for them nobody would over learn anything. I was in a school play twice once in 3rd grade and then again in 4th grade, the play was about Yankee Doodle. I had so much fun because we were always playing instead of researching and practicing but when we performed we were good. I don't have any memories that I would like to hold on to because I’ve already forgot them, but I’ll never forget the people I shared them with.
How I’ve Changed When I was younger I loved to draw and I was great at it. I don't know why I stopped but I’m not as good anymore but I still enjoy it to draw whenever I get free time. My interests now are shopping and spending money. I used to think that it was okay for me to sing although I was tone deaf, I still sing mostly in the car but it sounds a little better than when I was younger. At about 12 I was so ugly (not even being funny what I look like now is a blessing). I was going through that awkward stage and my my nose got longer and bigger, my hair was always frizzy and never got tamed, and my clothes never matched. Now I think that I have okay style, I mostly just wear what I like. I also think that I grew into my nose and it looks better on my face. My hair also is better but I don't take care of it or style it as I should. As a baby I was so adorable with my curly hair and big eyes. I remember old ladies coming up to my mom in the grocery store just to tell her she had beautiful kids. I still look basically the same as before but older now and chunkier. When I was born in 2001, Bill Clinton was president but I don't remember anything he did because 6 days after I was born George W. Bush was inaugurated. Right now my president is Obama because I still refuse to accept that Donald Trump even made it this far in the election to be president. I was born in the controversial year of 2001 when the Twin Towers were attacked and I never got to enjoy them like my family did because I was only 8 months old. My family absolutely loves music, so I remember all of the music they listened to when I was younger. One is Lady Marmalade by Christina Aguilera that came out in 2001 but they continued to listen to it anyway, and my mom and I will sing to it when it occasionally comes on the radio. Now I listen to most music like some pop, rap, and some trap music. I don't remember any movies from when I was younger sadly, but it's to be expected because I don't remember movies now. I like movies that are NOT scary, funny, and mostly kids movies because they don't make me creeped out. Now in my life I like to make money and save it so I can actually have money for college and the stuff I need to buy for it. I think I’ve changed a lot in my older years for the better.
Chapter VIII “There will be times you feel like you’ve failed but in the eyes, heart, and mind of your child you are super mom” ~Stephanie Precourt I love my mom the most out of all the people in my life, I spend the most time with her and even used to talk to her most. My mom has eyes that sparkle like the Hudson River, she has brown skin, and black hair, I always know when my mom is nearby even if I can’t see her because she has tons of keys on her wallet and they jingle whenever she moves. When people look at her they don't see what I see, I see a loving person, that cares for all of her children very much. My mom is a very sweet and kind person who knows when to serious because she’s not a pushover and wouldn't let people take advantage of her. She teaches at franklin High School and tells me stories on the way home from school about how she had to get serious with students because they weren’t following directions. Another great quality that my mom has is that she is very honest., even when my mom shouldn’t be like if I ask her “does think make me look fat?” she’ll say yes and tell me to change. My mom is also a very happy person and I don't think I’ve even seen her sad but once. She is the most happy go lucky person I know and her smile is contagious even when I’m upset. My mom is a great and I love her very much. My mom is a very interesting person, she has and has had many hobbies in her lifetime. When she would hang out with her best friend who I call Ms.Naffie, they would decorate the house and fix things even if they didn’t need fixing. She loved doing arts and crafts because she's very creative and original, but she barely has any time to them anymore. When she would take us to Chuck E. Cheese when we were little she would knit, it was her favorite pastime, I still have the scarf she knitted me, we had matching lilac ones. Now my mom's favorite hobby is to play candy crush and it's her favorite thing to do since she stopped knitting, she’s higher on the leaderboard than any of her facebook friends. My mom is a very interesting person with very crazy hobbies. All of the memories I have with my mom are mostly great but if I had to choose one that I enjoyed the most would be when we took a roadtrip to Boston in the summer of 2016 with my brother Eriq and cousin Myles. We had such a great time traveling together especially when I took pictures of all of the state signs that we passed. This trip was so important for me because we spent so much time together and had fun, especially since their were so many snacks involved. Sometimes in life we meet extraordinary people, There have been many special people in my life, but the most important one is my mom. I will always admire her and aspire to be like her.
Chapter IX My first goal is to go to college and med school. I want to go tot the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington or Fairleigh Dickinson in Teaneck, NJ. I’m preparing for it by getting good grades in highschool and making sure my gpa is good and my resume is long. I came up with this goal when I started my search for greta pre-med schools in 9th grade. The goal I want to achieve after college and med school is to become a trauma surgeon. I want to be a surgeon because I like to help people although I don't show it that much I really do have a big heart. I feel like I would be best needed for my services as a trauma surgeon at a busy hospital in Chicago, Washington, or New Jersey. I’ll achieve my goal by doing all of my work to the best of my ability in college, I will need to take tons of science courses in college and apply to a lot of internships, which would make me look extra good to hospitals. I think I’m in for a long road to my goal, at least 15 years. I want my future husband to compliment me, we should be able to get along great and our relationship shouldn't be forced. I plan on having 3 kids, first a boy (Lukas, Luke for short) so he can protect my baby girls then, I want twin girls (Elizabeth, Lizzy for short and Adeline, Addy for short). My kids, husband, and myself will live in a nice, friendly neighborhood like the one where I grew up. I don't care if my family is traditional or “perfect” as long as we’re all happy, that’s enough for me. My last goal in life is to take care of my parents the same way they took care of me for my first 18 years. I’ve already promised them I would get a big house so they could live with me and my family. They will have the mother in law suite to themselves by the pool. I also plan to have them “live with me” (they won't be in the same house just the same property) because of the free child care I will get from them and in return they will have a free place to live. I plan to accomplish all of these things when I grow up in the next 20 years. I want my family to be stable and my parents not to have to work their whole lives, they deserve to rest when they get old. I want to have a good job where I can enjoy my life and be happy with my decisions.
