go green! 5 EASY HOUSE PLANT IDEAS FROM NATALIE & KIM AT HOME EC. FOLLOW THEM ON INSTAGRAM @HOME_EC_OP

There are so many benefits to incorporating plants into your home. They not only decrease stress and the improve the air quality inside but they can dramatically transform your home design as well.  Decorating with house plants is an easy and attractive way to create beautiful spaces and save money.  We love using green plants  to add relaxing color and freshness to modern décor!  Maybe you don't have a green thumb?  That's ok!  We'll give you our list of easy to care for and maintain indoor houseplants.   01.       SNAKE               PLANT               -   Snake plants are great for beginners as well as provide a dramatic, upright form.  They can tolerate neglect but as all living things do, responds well when treated with care.  These houseplants can handle low light as well as bright light in moderately dry soil.  We love snake plants in large containers on a plant stand or dwarf varieties on a desk or countertop!

02.      PHILODENDRONS                                    -   Philodendrons are a beautiful option for a hanging plant.  For indoors there are two basic types of philodendrons: the climbing varieties and the self-heading (non-climbing) types.  They are vigorous and can be acclimated to nearly direct sunlight in the right conditions, but they thrive in light shade.  As long as the soil is kept somewhat moist, these beautiful heart-shaped leaves will give you a nice pop of indoor green! 03.        ZZ      PLANT             -   The plant commonly known as ZZ has become a popular houseplant because of its pretty foliage and adaptability to challenging growing conditions.  We use these frequently for decorating with as they practically thrive off neglect!  It has thick, upright stems bearing narrow, darkgreen glossy leaves that make a perfect room accent.  They tolerate low light, rarely need fertilizer and are forgiving if you forget to water...   04.        SUCCULENTS                          -  Succulent plants are trendy for a reason.  The color variation of succulents seems almost endless and offer beautiful textures from rounded and berry like to spiky and variegated.  They like the dry

humidity and warm conditions found in most homes, and while they like direct light, they can adapt to lower light. They all prefer a fast-draining potting medium that's not watered too often.  They look especially beautiful with combined varieties in terrariums.    05.      FERNS              - While there are many species of ferns, the indoor varieties are all pretty easy to care for as long as they have a bright location.  Boston ferns have been a longtime favorite for hanging plants, they love sunlight and a little humidity to flourish.  Bird's nest ferns make the top of our fern list with their lush form and bold fronds.  They are less finicky about humidity and light making this one of our easier-to-please indoor fern picks!

Q. What is your favorite thing about living #nexttochicago? The people! We may live next to one of the largest cities in the country, but everywhere I go I see someone I know. Even when I am travelling I run into people from our wonderful community! I have parents who call the shop to make sure their kids came by and we end up having great conversations and catching up. There is truly a small town feel here that is not easily replicated!

market update

For detailed statistics on Oak Park, River Forest and Forest Park, click HERE. If you would like a detailed report for another town not listed, please email me at info@aubreyjacknowhomes.com. The Spring market is in full swing. Houses are seeing a small but steady increase in pricing.  Some of you may know that the Federal Reserve announced that it is ending its quantitative easing policy which has helped keep interest rates at staggering lows since the 2008 market cash. It has been forcasted that the current rate of a 30-year mortgage, which is now at about 3.8 percent will hit 5 percent by late 2018. These numbers will vastly change the amount of home one can afford #nexttochicago and across the country. To give you an example, Thomas Griffith from Guaranteed Rate supplied me with the following numbers:

Q. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE WAYS THAT REAL ESTATE MARKETING IS CHANGING? Marketing a home for sale has always been part of a Realtors responsibilities when listing your home. Though we have added many tools to our kit, at Jacknow Realty we believe in balancing the old with the new. Real estate marketing is broken down into two categories for us: Digital and Direct. Digital is newer to the scene and is constantly evolving. Right now you will see YouTube videos, Instagram posts, Facebook ads, individual websites and more. In addition to these, Jacknow Realty has strategic partnerships in place to take your listing further, including featuring your home in this newsletter which is circulated to over 1,200 people via email and even more via social media. Contact us to learn more about our digital marketing strategy for your home.

#oldhouselove

Direct marketing is the original, but still very important way to market your home. Traditionally, this will include newspaper ads, professional photography, printed materials, mailers, open houses and broker's opens. We still have a weekly ad in our local paper and participate in the same direct marketing as all of our competitors, but we also like to mix things up a bit. From unique listing photos to a neighborhood open house and your home highligted in select local businesses, we know that we truly offer unique and one of a kind services to ensure the best for our clients. You can reach Aubrey Jacknow at (312)523-7811 or info@aubreyjacknohomes.com.
